Last Wednesday we got to see a couple of supercute photos of new dad Elton John (Daddy) playing with his adorable baby son Zacharay Jackson Levon while on vacation in Hawaii and today we get to see a cute photo of Elton‘s hubby David Furnish (Papa) posing with the couple’s adorable son. New dads and their babies are just too cute for words.

First it was Daddy beaming with joy. Yesterday it was Papa’s turn. Two days after Sir Elton John was seen delightedly playing with eight-week-old son Zachary, his civil partner David Furnish was left holding the baby on a Hawaiian beach. Not that he had to handle the task unsupported. A male companion in purple swimming shorts, believed to be a bodyguard, joined the party to take photographs of Furnish posing proudly with his son, in miniature blue sunglasses. And a nanny was also conveniently on hand to stroll along the beach with the slumbering infant in her arms. Furnish, a 48-year-old film producer, will be known as Papa by the child – with Sir Elton being called Daddy. The star – who turns 64 next month – and his partner became parents to Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John through a surrogate mother in Los Angeles on Christmas Day.
I have a hard time believing that the guy snapping photos in the purple shorts is a bodyguard. I don’t think a bodyguard would wear a bathing suit while on duty … and certainly not a pair of trunks this tight. But, whoever the guy is, I’m sure he snapped lots of cute photos of Papa David with baby Zachary. Those sunglasses are just adorable. Mebbe next time we’ll get to see Zachary Jackson with both of this fathers, at the same time.

Cute. But that baby needs a hat on!
@Debho: I was thinking the same thing but then thought maybe he wasn’t in the sun all that long. Like a quick pop on the beach then back indoors or under a tent of some kind. And I agree with Trent-NOT a bodyguard. Maybe a manny?
Just read there was already a nanny on hand. Perhaps just another beachgoer or a buddy? Sidenote: “civil partner” sounds so formal, I don’t like it.
Papa and Daddy! So sweet. They are such a cute family! So happy for them
Last week no head and neck support; this week out in the burning sun without a hat. Nevermind bodyguard- someone please buy them a clue.
I agree!! Gay or not. TAKE CARE OF YOUR CHILD!
Right, I`m sure all of you were born perfect parents then? If I’ve learned one thing from being a parent, it’s that nobody is perfect. Also, my daughter refused to wear a hat EVER, and yes even when she was a new born she would rip it off as soon as you put one on. So instead we greased her little head up with all kinds of sunscreen. Perhaps Elton & hubby did the same with their little boy, you wouldn’t know because you weren’t there…
Also, it takes practice to pick up a newborn properly, yes the little boy did go without head and neck support that time but you saw a fraction of a second glimpse into their parenting and you are making a judgment based on that? Perhaps they do “need a clue” perhaps they don’t, but from what I see they love their son to bits and that’s the most important thing.
Great post Trent, and the pictures are adorable!
Andi, no one here is claiming to be the perfect parent. However, I’ve had four kids and now have four grandkids, so I do know a thing or two about it. Most parenting is common sense and most would realise you have to support a newborn’s head. Also, we live in a world where skin cancer is becoming the number one killer. Children need to learn from the start about being sun smart. No, we don’t know how long that baby was in the sun, but even for a short while, the sun’s rays can damage. Moreso if there’s sand and water involved. BTW, your baby must have been very smart to rip her hat off as a newborn. I hope she wears one now.
@ Jerry Jones…some straight parents need to get a clue too.
btw andi- cant use sunscreen on an infant until 6 months. the only thing you can really do effectively is shield them. no one is claiming to be perfect…but these are pretty basic things nowaday. in the good old days moms could smoke and drink galore. im sure elton wanted his surrogate to observe that restriction while she was pregnant. so now its his turn to observe the basics. not a big deal.
I am quite sure that you can as I used it on my daughter when she was a newborn on the advise of our pediatrician. Also, as a medical student, I can tell you that sun screen is quite safe for newborns (avoiding eyes/diaper area as with adult sunscreen). Also, clothing is only partially effective at blocking the sun’s rays, to get full protection one must wear sunscreen.
Anyway, my point is that I am quite confident that no parent can say that they always picked their baby up with perfect head and neck control. Yes it is part of the “basics” of parenting, but everyone has to begin at the beginning. What that picture shows was a split second glimpse into the parenting of Elton & husband. That picture doesn’t show any of the other countless times that they must have picked up and held their infant from the time he was born until now. I think that they are doing a great job, if you want to pick on someone’s parenting don’t base it on one picture taken by tabloid photographers that may have been taken out of context (perhaps the child was under an umbrella until the photo and then taken right back into the shade).
