Whoa! Sad and very surprising news to pass along today … TMZ is reporting that Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz have split up! Ashlee and Pete would’ve celebrated their 3 year wedding anniversary in May … but instead, Ash has filed for divorce from her Fall Out Boy … just days ahead of Valentine’s Day :( The couple are dunzo, y’all!
TMZ has learned … Ashlee Simpson just filed for divorce from hubby Pete Wentz. In documents filed in L.A. County Superior Court, Simpson cites “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce. She’s asking for joint legal custody and primary physical custody of two-year-old Bronx. Simpson, who is repped by disso queen Laura Wasser, is also asking for spousal and child support. Wentz is repped by Stacy Phillips. Sources tell TMZ there is no prenup. The couple married in May, 2008.
I kid you not, I actually gasped OUT LOUD when I heard this news. There has never been any indication that I could see that there was anything amiss in the couple’s marriage (they sure looked happy at the US Open last September). In fact, I was always so impressed by how unpublic the couple have been about their relationship. Sure, we see the couple out and about with their son Bronx Mowgli from time to time (like when they went grocery shopping for Thanksgiving last November) but, for the most part, this celebrity couple tended to keep to themselves. Ugh … this is so sad. Altho I remember being a bit concerned at how young the couple got married (and let’s be honest, the fact that Ashlee was pregs with Bronx prolly had a lot to do with the couple’s need to be married), I long ago stop worrying about Ashl33n. Ugh … this is so sad :( What a bummer. Are the Simpson sister’s just cursed or what? I just don’t get it ;(
UPDATE: TMZ has sources that claim that Ashlee just got tired of Pete‘s “erratic behavior”:
Our sources say, no third party is involved. One source very familiar with the situation tells TMZ, “It’s really all about Pete’s erratic behavior.” The source adds, “She really wanted out” … “After Bronx was born Ashlee made a conscious decision to get out of the business, but Pete’s heart was in music so he kept touring and that became a big issue in their relationship.”

I saw this coming when they decided to get married. Mostly because they were young (and pregnant) but also because Pete seems like he can be a real handful. I don’t know, I just don’t trust him…he’s got the immature rock star thing going that is attractive at first but not when you are a wife and a mom. But Ash is a strong chick and she has an adorable son and I bet it won’t be too long until we see her happy with a real man. Maybe even one that is taller than her! UPGRADE!

OK, no one has said it yet so I’m going to jump in – anyone think Jessica is a little relieved to see her sister’s life isn’t perfect? All those years when Ashlee’s career was rising (music, marriage, baby) and Jessica’s was falling apart … I know sisters love each other and support each other, and I’m sure Jessica has her back, but do you think there’s a smaaallll part of Jessica that is happy to see her sister single again?

Good! Ugh Pete Wentz is a loser anyways not to mention unattractive. Ashley can do better. But yeah I do think the Simpson sisters are a little cursed. Especially Jessica. She tries way to hard to find love.
Dang it! I really loved them and thought they would make it much longer. If I weren’t married I’d be happy to see Pete back on the market though. I’ve always had a small crush on him. :)
As long as they make things work for Bronx, (kids SO often feel their parents’ divorce is their fault) I wish them the best in whatever else they wanna do.
Not surprised they married to quickly imo and then there’s the Papa Joe factor. Plus I always felt like Pete could do way better than Ashley ‘lip syncing’ Simpson.

Everytime I saw a pic of them together it always seemed off to me. Not two days ago I saw a pic of them with coffee (I think) and thought to myself they seemed badly matched.
