A New Group Of ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Has Been Cast
A New Generation of Angels Is Born

Wonder Woman isn’t the only classic TV heroine making her return to TV this FallABC is bringing back a new batch of Charlie’s Angels as well. It was reported last week that General Hospital actress Annie Ilonzeh was cast as one of the Angels and today we learn that Minka Kelly and Rachael Taylor have been cast to round out the trio of NEW Charlie’s Angels.

Minka Kelly and Rachael Taylor are putting on angel wings. The Friday Night Lights alumna and the Transformers babe have been tapped to play the remaining two titular private eyes in ABC’s Charlie’s Angels pilot. They join the previously cast Annie Ilonzeh (General Hospital) to form a new trio of sexy sleuths – Marisa (played by Kelly), Kate (Ilonzeh) and Abby (Taylor). Producing studio Sony Pictures TV and Drew Barrymore’s Flower Films went through an exhaustive search for the three leads in this Angels series reboot. Kelly was a name the producers kept coming back to, and they are now reworking the role to tailor it to her. In the current breakdown, Marisa is described as a former U.S. Marine, a weapons expert trained in all forms of hand-to-head combat, and a neat freak. Taylor’s Abby is the youngest and sassiest of the Angels. The beautiful and privileged daughter of a notorious Wall Street crook, she is an expert con artist herself, as well as a Krav Maga expert. Kelly has kept busy since leaving FNL two years ago. Most recently, she has recurred on NBC’s Parenthood, which is produced by the same company as FNL, Imagine TV. She can next be seen on the big screen opposite Gossip girl Leighton Meester in the thriller The Roommate, opening February 4. Taylor, meanwhile, starts a recurring role on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy next week, playing Callie’s obstetrician — and a possible love interest for Karev. Smallville alums Alfred Gough and Miles Millar penned the script for the Charlie’s Angels pilot and are executive-producing with Leonard Goldberg (an EP of the original series), Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen.

I guess everything that is old is new again. While I was a fan of Charlie’s Angels back in the day (R.I.P. Farrah Fawcett) it wasn’t a show that I was totally obsessed with. Like The Love Boat, One Day at a Time, What’s Happenin’, Good Times and Sanford & Son (to name but a few), Charlie’s Angels was one of those TV shows that I watched because it was on. I did enjoy the big screen versions of Charlie’s Angels so I bet I’ll enjoy this new TV series as well. I’m not too familiar with these actresses so … I guess we’ll have to wait and see how the show turns out. I suspect if this new Charlie’s Angels does well, other classic TV gems will be brought back to life as well … which, now that I think about it, seems like a really bad idea.

What do y’all think of this new batch of Charlie’s Angels? Are you impressed?

i think the blonde girl was in Transformers…i think.
but that first girl looks hot in that picture.

    • Trent Trent says:

@nicole — Yes, she was the “Transformer” that looked like a girl and then turned into a robot. Dumb.

      • helen says:

I think that was on the second movie, and I think Rachael was on the first one… I think she was the blonde girl with an accent who happened to be computer genius or something like that…

      • Jess says:

You’re getting your blonde Aussies mixed up, Trent.
Rachel Taylor played one of the computer geeks in Transformers 1. I can’t remember what she actually was, just that it involved a computer
Isabel Lucas played the robot-girl in Transformers 2.

      • Trent Trent says:

@Jess — Ah yes, you’re right. The computer geek girl was paired with my friend Tom Lenk, right?

i like the idea of TV returning to scripted TV instead of reality TV. reality tv has become so predictable back in the day when real world 1st aired it was great because it was unpredictable but then it got a formula, you know. drama sells so i will be the most outrageous person on the show. i think we lost some really good tv programming for a while. sure dramas are nice but what about comedy? life can’t always be dramatic. we had people to look up too growing up the good guys verses the bad tweens and teens have really just had irresponsible, sloppy, dunken, people to look towards for inspiration.

i don’t think i like the idea of a redo but i’m thinking it just may be a little better for society as a whole

Not at all, our generation needs to leave the classics alone, television has become simple and mindless. This is going to SUCK.

  4. Debho says:

I loved the original Angels. I was still in high school when they first started. (Also was a huge Bionic Woman fan). I didn’t much like the movies though.

  6. JavaJunko says:

I don’t see this show lasting a full season. It will suck ass. Why do they have to try and remake everything, are people in show business that creatively impotent now…

I am a big fan of Parenthood and Minka Kelly is so gorgeous. I knew she was going to be big the minute I saw her in the show. She’s attractive and a good actress..hopefully she can kick ass too!
