First Look: ‘The Hunger Games’ Releases A Cosmetics Line

We are just 3 months away from the release of the film adaptation of The Hunger Games but today we learn that the product tie-in campaign has already gotten underway. A line of cosmetics called Capitol Colours has been unveiled that features none other than Effie Trinket as the official face of the line. Click below to get your first look at the first promo ad for Capitol Colours and ask yourself this question … What will you be wearing to the opening ceremonies?

Hey Hunger Games fans, have we got a treat for you—straight from the Capitol, of all places. Behold, this exclusive image and announcement regarding everyone’s favorite uptight, by-the-book, District-12 escort Effie Trinket in all her pink-haired, crazy-eyelashed glory! Effie has officially been selected as “the face” of China Glaze’s “Capitol Colours” series of nail polishes, and the corresponding ad is as bold and beautiful as we’d expect. Just look at Ms. Trinket in this photo! Her perfectly-curled hair is a very soft shade of pink, further accented by a purple head piece and a fuchsia top. Effie’s makeup is equally bold, with hot pink eyeshadow above and below her eyes, plus matching lipstick (not to mention those feather-like adornments on her eyelashes). The ad features small swatches of what we presume to be the official 12 colors to be launched as part of the “Capitol Colours” line, as well as the leading and clever tagline “What will you be wearing to the opening ceremonies?” According to the news from the Capitol, the 12 polish colors will represent each of the 12 districts, which will allow the citizens of Panem to show support for their favorite tribute leading up to the Games on March 23.

I have to assume that this line of cosmetics will be available for sale even tho this article does not confirm my assumption (ie. there is no release date for Capitol Colours). It just seems too brilliantly genius to put out a product like this leading up to the release of the Hunger Games film. What better way to feed into the rabid devotion of fans than to offer them products like this. This promo poster is just too freaking cool. Imagine all the fun they can have with an ad campaign like this. The possibilities are endless. Just … brilliant. I can barely stand the excitement of wanting to see The Hunger Games on the big screen … the introduction of kickass campaigns like this doesn’t help ;) What do y’all think? Would YOU wear cosmetics from the Capitol Colours line?

  • Sara

I’m a nail polish fanatic and these are making big noise in that community because the colors are really unique. I’ll definitely be buying a few, and I don’t know shit about Hunger Games ;P

    • @Sara — Nail polish fanatic, eh? Maybe you can help me … back in the late 90s, Urban Decay used to make a nailpolish color called “Bruise”. I can’t seem to find it anywhere … any chance you can help find it?

    • Meghan

@Trent- I remember Bruise! I used to wear it quite a bit. It’s discontinued, but occasionally one will pop up on Ebay. Love this China Glaze line. Definitely getting some.

    • Lauren

I was obsessed with that color back in the day! Orly has a similar one called Glam Girl. It is hard to find as well, but I have had a little more luck with that one. Try eBay for both!

    • Elizabeth

This is a link to a review with Misa Embroidered Emerald. It is the exact same color.

    • @Elizabeth — OMG! THANK YOU!!!!

  • Lauri

China Glaze & these colors, & the Hunger Games? I’m so down!

  • Katie

    Those eyelashes are so awesome!

  • ClaireMichelle

This is genius. To market the nail polish through the Capitol is brilliant. This is EXACTLY something the Capitol would do! I love it! Can’t wait for the polishes!

  • Meghan

BTW these colors will be released sometime in March.

  • Krissy

I hope they make a lot of them, they will sell out fast! I think the cosmetics tie in is brilliant…it really goes with the “capital make over” that the tributes go through. The styling of this movie is a big part of my excitment for it. They can go so far with fashion and color, the book gives them few limitations! It will be interesting to see what it ends up looking like.

  • Anne Boleyn

This is all leading up to a big, big, big day!!!

  • Heather

Love it!!! This is making the wait for the movie absolutely unbearable. Might have to re-read the books in the meantime…again!

  • azuresque

These are basically the new line of nail polish colours from China Glaze, which is a pretty established brand. Looking forward to their release!!

  • I’m actually really surprised OPI didn’t snag this deal since they typically do the movie inspired lines.

Either way, buying them all. I could’ve seen MAC getting on board with this as well.

  • Anastasia

Trent, I just want to say thank you – your gushing about the Hunger Games forced me to finally read the books and OMG I am SO on board now! Can’t wait for the movie!!

    • Anne Boleyn

That’s the same reason I bought a copy, Trent’s gushing.
      I’m glad I did!
