Movie Review: ‘Paranormal Activity 3′

The TV Guide

Last night David and I went on a bit of a movie date together last night. We hadn’t been to the movies in ages so we decided to see what was playing. Just in time for Hallowe’en next week, Paranormal Activity 3 opened in theaters this weekend. Now, I was really disappointed with Paranormal Activity 2 after LOVING the original Paranormal Activity film … so I was hoping part 3 would at the very least, split the difference and be decent. Thankfully, it is. While it wasn’t as good as the first film, it was light years better than the second film.

I was encouraged by the trailer we got to see from PA3 so I thought it was worth seeing. Overall, yes, I enjoyed the film. Even tho it suffered a bit from the problems of PA2 (again with “the devil”), it generally gave us a more fresh perspective on the found footage theme … especially since it was set in the late 80s. Oh man, they SO got the 80s look right. The house, the clothes, the EVERYTHING. The lead guy was even wearing a very prominent Swatch watch. I LOVED IT! The young actresses that star in the film are excellent. In this film, we get to see a lot more of the Paranormal Activity then ever before … and there are a lot of fun scary moments. I can’t say it’s the best scary movie ever but it was entertaining enough for us to have a good time.

After the movie, David and I went next door to Amoeba Records to look around … and I hit the jackpot. I managed to find a bunch of great new records … INCLUDING the 12″ promo vinyl of Y Kant Tori Read‘s first single The Big Picture!

The 12″ goes nicely with my vinyl version of Y Kant Tori Read‘s debut album :) After Amoeba, we went to El Compadre for some late night eats. All in all, it was a great Friday night.

Today, David and I are meeting up with Adriana and Brian at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery for their annual Dia de los Muertos celebration. After 5 years of living here in LA, I am FINALLY going! I’m so excited!! Happy Saturday!!

Hmm, I didn’t like the first movie, so I didn’t bother watching the second. Third movie, from the trailer, didn’t look really good. Maybe I’ll watch it when it’s available at the dollar movies or something.

Also- aw, you didn’t go see Miyavi perform last night? It was a great show :)

wow, can’t believe its been 5 years since you moved!

I saw it last night and it was a waste of time. I mean, I was so bored… The jumps were ineffective and lame. It just didn’t work, really. I don’t think I’ll see another PA movie again. These movies are starting to become a cliche, just like the Saw movies. The acting, for the most part, was pretty bad and awkward, but the little girls did a good job and the husband was insanely cute and awesome as well. ; ) Overall, it just sucked banana chips.

I too saw the movie on friday, and i really liked it…BUT the trailer scenes were not in the movie, and that kinda bothered me. Other than that i was much better than pa2. I really like the tie ins, like when heather is making bead jewlery in pa1, and as a kid she was playing with the bead kit. good detail. but again i wanted more. like the house fire etc.

OH. LMAO i mean katie with the beads… lol heather is blair witch, and i always call katie heather.

I havnt seen any of the PA movies but am thinking about taking the plunge this year just because of the plug line they are using in the commercials :”The Last 15 min will screw you up for the rest of your life” or whatever…

is it really that good? i HATED the Saw movies… just dont want to waste my money and a good night’s sleep if its not worth it. lol

I was totally disappointed in PA3. Like another poster said, a LOT of scenes from the trailer weren’t in the movie. One or two scenes being cut.. I understand. But there were TONS of scenes that were cut. Genuinely ticked me off because I thought they were good scenes – like the house fire. It just seemed very rushed and unorganized. And I hated the ending. Definitely didn’t live up to the “will screw you up for life” hype.

  8. Hmmm mixed reviews again. I’m going tomorrow with coworkers who jump easily so I’ll at least be entertained there. And Trent, so jealous of your Tori find!!! If it had been the “Cool On Your Island” single, I’d have to come steal it =P
