Late yesterday the world learned the very sad news that Apple founder Steve Jobs passed away at 56 years old after succumbing to pancreatic cancer. We got to read the official statements that were released by Apple and right now we get to read the official statement that was released by the Jobs family. According to the family statement, Steve passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loved ones. If we can take can take any comfort in his passing, it might be from the fact that he left this Earth while in the company of his family.

Steve Jobs “died peacefully today surrounded by his family” …. the Apple mogul’s family said in a statement. The family said, “In his public life, Steve was known as a visionary; in his private life, he cherished his family.” “We are thankful to the many people who have shared their wishes and prayers during the last year of Steve’s illness; a website will be provided for those who wish to offer tributes and memories.” The statement concludes, “We are grateful for the support and kindness of those who share our feelings for Steve. We know many of you will mourn with us, and we ask that you respect our privacy during our time of grief.”

I suspect this is the only statement that will be released by the Jobs family. And really, I think we know all that we really need to know. I am relieved to know that Steve was surrounded by his family in his last moments … I’m certain that they flooded him with the love that we all have for him. I mean … I don’t even know what else to say. As I sit here typing up this blog post on my MacBook Pro, invented by the man we are mourning, it’s hard not to feel the weight of losing him. The world is mourning the loss of one of the most brilliant minds of our time … arguably, of all time … Steve Jobs will be sorely missed ;(

Ugh…this is so sad. He was so young. His contributions are immeasurable.
@Meghan — I absolutely agree, IMMEASURABLE! ;(
I really had no clue he was that sick. He was a genius and probably was needed for bigger and better things. Love and Light Steve!
He really did work until the very end. What a talented person.
On a side note, we know celebrity deaths come in threes…..
As we type/text on our iPhones or use our MacBooks, we should be comforted by the fact that he shared his amazing innovative vision(s) with us. I cherish that greatly. He still lives through all of us.
So many people found out about his passing through products that he created.
Rest in peace Steve Jobs
RIP, Steve. I am glad to know he was at peace and with the family he cherished so much. His passing is a painful reminder of our fragility.
I for one found out about his death while on my macbook and the news was confirmed by the CNN app on my iPhone, which is so appropriate. He changed the world we live in and he’s one of the most prominent faces of american pop culture. when other countries think about america, one of the first things they mention is the iPhone. He really is the Thomas Edison of our time. RIP Steve Jobs
Someone close to Apple told me back in February Steve was a lot sicker than people knew and I refused to believe it. I know now he was right. What a great loss. RIP.
I knew the minute he announced his resignation as CEO that his time was limited. However I didn’t expect it to be this limited. Lost my grandfather to the same cancer. It’s no easy path to watch a loved one go down. Prayers and love to his family. I’m glad they were there with him in those final days and weeks.
Excuse me? What a sick comment. No, the ISI probably had nothing to do with it. Pancreatic cancer has frightening high mortality rates, and Jobs’ long fight was well-documented. Even suggesting that an intelligence agency was somehow involved in an assassination or his death is beyond dubious, it’s a mark against a good man’s memory.
