Watch: MTV Debuts The First Full Video Clip From ‘The Hunger Games’

Last week leading up to last night’s 2011 MTV Video Music Awards the network teased us with two quick glimpses (HERE and HERE) from the first full length clip from the much-anticipated film adaptaion of The Hunger Games. Last night, MTV aired the clip in full during the VMAs … clocking in at 30+ seconds! In case you missed seeing it last night or just want another look, check out the first footage from The Hunger Games below.

Here is the clip via You Tube for you international readers:

This clip runs a bit longer than 30 seconds if you include the intro, the promo animations and the film’s logo but there is a solid 30 seconds of actual film footage. It’s a GREAT tease, I think, for the film to come. It seems like we’ll be waiting a LIFETIME for The Hunger Games to hit theaters next year … but, oh man, does it look worth the wait. Woot!

So … what do y’all think?

I was really disappointed with the clip! The movie looks fantastic, but I was hoping to see some non-game scenes. I’m excited to see what District 12 looks like, the reaping ceremony, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, etc….

    • @barbie — It is way too early to show the good stuff, that’s why this is a teaser.

  • barbie

    @Trent I know….I’m just having trouble being patient! :)

  • I was underwhelmed. I felt like it was just a glorified clip of the two teaser clips released earlier in the week. That doesn’t mean I didn’t squeal in excitement, though. ;)

    • @danielle — The clip turned out exactly the way I thought it would. For a teaser, I’m very pleased.

    • @trent i’m satisfied enough with the music… CANNOT wait to get my hands on the score.

  • I’m so ready to see this film!

  • Dani

This preview was seriously disappointing. Why hype it up and then show 10 seconds of jungle foliage and a logo? No action? Huge fail on MTV’s part, if you ask me.

    • @Dani — No matter what, without fail … proof positive that you can never please everyone.

    • Also, MTV isn’t to be blamed. They were simply the medium it which it was shown — Lionsgate released the clip. Gary Ross, the director, has already explained why it was so brief. Obviously, they’re still shooting which limits the footage that can be shown. They didn’t have to show us anything until the full trailer and who knows when that will be? Take what you can get.

  • It was a fantastic tease. Katniss running through the forest looks exactly how I’d want it to. Did I nearly start crying at Rue’s whistle at the very end of the clip? Maybe.

It’s a great tease. Lots of people are complaining about it because they expected more. However the film isn’t out for another eight months! Be glad we got to see what little we did.

    • Vanessa

Couldnt agree more, i got a little teary hearing Rue’s whistle too!

  • Jacqui

hmm. Well I read the books, so for me its not hard to get me excited. But I think that clip was bad marketing for those who have not read the books. If I didn’t have the back drop, that clip would not get me wanting to see the movie. I guess that was just for the fans, but even so.

  • Katie

They are still shooting the movie, I don’t know what people were expecting from this. I think JL looks amazing with the bow & arrow!! She looks like she has been running and hunting for years :).

  • ID

    Thank you Trent!
I’m super excited for this movie!!
The trailer wasn’t showing much, just the fire to herd her out of the woods during the games, but I’m still happy they showed it!
    She’s a believable Katniss.

  • Hannah

It was about what I was expecting, they are still filming so can’t do too much. I’d be curious to hear from people who haven’t read the books/know very little about them to see how they interpreted the trailer

  • Kim

I have not read the books and know very little about them… and I watched that and thought “huh… sure is a lot of hype about a girl running through the woods and shooting a bow and arrow.” :)
I have read all the posts about the books being adapted, and who they have cast in all the roles, and all the gossip and entertainment site articles, and I can honestly say that I have NO CLUE WHATSOEVER as to what these books are about. I have never read the “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” books either (I know, I know… I will!) but at least I feel like I could see that movie and enjoy it. I’m not so sure about Hunger Games…. the storyline doesn’t seem anywhere near as straightforward. I am an avid reader, so I guess I better get busy!

  • Leeann

I live in Charlotte, and they were filming the chariot ride scene and interview scene at the beginning of august. Also, alot of people here are extras, and they filmed many of the Capitol scenes just last week. I wanted more last night, too, I just don’t think it’s ready yet!!!

  • Claire

I thought it was a perfect little teaser! Just enough to satisfy us obsessed fans for a little while longer! >:) And Rue’s melody at the end was such a nice touch! I love that they included that.

  • Lulu

I’m happy with that! I didn’t expect more. :) Happy Happy Happy… love Miss JL :)

  • Rachael

We have to remember that they are still FILMING this thing, so there’s no way we could have gotten a “real” and fully fleshed out preview at this point. But MTV was hyping it so much that I think it caused many people’s expectations skyrocket. Even my own a little bit … I had to keep reminding myself to keep my expectations low, since they are not even done filming yet. Of course I would have loved to see more … maybe a glimpse of some other characters. But I’m not gonna get all up in arms about it at this point. I just hope the finished product is awesome … that’s all I care about!!

  • Amanda

This was nothing that revealed anything… anyone who knows the books and have seen pictures of the actress playing katnis, have already pictured this in their heads… I was disappointed.

  • JC

It wouldn’t work for this teaser, but I really hope they use the conversation between Gale and Katniss for a future trailer: “You know how to kill.” “Not people.” “How different can it be, really?” That would really get people interested!

    • Rachael

LOL seriously that would be good. I hope they don’t cut out those lines for the movie!!
