Back in January we learned the amazing news that No Doubt has started work on a new album of new material. Today we get a bit of an update from singer Gwen Stefani about how things are going. Recording, she says, is almost done and she even reveals the name of a few songs … including one she describes as a “prom song”. Click below to find out from Gwen herself how close we are to hearing new music from No Doubt.

Gwen Stefani has spoken about No Doubt’s songwriting process for their first album in ten years. The ‘Don’t Speak’ band will release their follow-up to 2001′s Rock Steady later this year, and are reportedly close to completing it. Songs on the album include ‘Easy’, ‘Heaven’ and ‘Dreaming the Same Dream’, which Stefani has described as “a prom song”. Speaking about whether the album will have a theme or concept, she told Q: “We wish we were good enough to craft it and have a vision, but our songwriting process is sort of desperate – we’re just praying that something comes out.” The singer added that she usually works on the album from 5pm to midnight, after caring for her children, designing for her fashion line LAMB and “working out” during the day. “That’s the horror of any creative person,” she added. “To have to be creative between certain times.” No Doubt have worked on the album with Major Lazer, who have previously produced for the likes of Beyoncé and Nicola Roberts.
Man … I am really hoping for a new album THIS year. I’m a bit worried to hear that recording isn’t done yet … but, I trust the new album will be fantastic. This update is good news … but I’m really anxious for the news that the album is DONE and ready for RELEASE. Keep up the good work Gwen and guys … we’re anxiously waiting ;)

Maybe they ought to write grown up songs.. A bunch of 40 year olds writing “prom songs” is pretty desperate to me.
@dk — Writing prom songs has nothing to do with age. Those are the songs that are timeless and live forever. The prom songs of the 80s and 90s, classics now, were not written by or for children.
Since when prom song is for children and should be written by non-adults?
Don’t Speak was a created out of a desperate situation. And it’s a monster.
She’s really not selling the new record by saying their now facing desperation
If they are trying to force this, I don’t think it will be that good of an album. I used to love No Doubt, but if they took 10 YEARS off, do they really love it anymore? Or are they doing it for their retirement fund?
that’s why they’re taking a long time to make another album, cos they don’t want to force it. esp. with each member had kids, clothing line, everything else. They’re in the studio since last year perfecting the said to be their best album yet. don’t be a selfish, they are human too with family.
Trent, I read some disappointing news about Fiona Apple. In Billboard they had an article about new releases this fall, and they mentioned that her new cd was supposed to be out this past spring. They tried to get a hold of her to see if it was coming out in fall or winter, but no one returned the calls. Boo! :(
@krissy — UGH. That is bummer news :(
