Last night David and I made our way to the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City to see Janelle Monáe and Bruno Mars on their Hooligans in Wondaland Tour and we had a BLAST! To be honest, the only reason we went to the show was to see Janelle … and we had no intention of staying for Bruno … but my curiousity got the better of me so we stayed to see the start of his show. David and I were so impressed, we stayed to see the whole show and loved it entirely!

Janelle Monáe is, IMHO, the most electrifying new artist on the scene today. Her music is so inventive and her live performances are always stunning. She manages to infuse musicality with theatrics and has a voice that can blow your mind. I’ve seen her live a few times, most recently when she opened for Prince at The Forum last month, but last night’s show had to be her best yet. I managed to record video of her performance of Come Alive (War of the Roses) … check it out for just a taste of what Janelle‘s live show is like:
Janelle Monáe is a goddess! If you get the chance to see her live … you MUST MUST MUST. She is amazing.
As for Bruno Mars, well, he impressed the Hell out of me. His live show is really fun … we had a blast watching him woo the entire, sold out crowd:

I was actually surprised by how many Bruno Mars songs I knew. I really love that he is teaching a new generation of music fans about rock/soul music. He may have just won a new fan in me last night.

This afternoon, David and I are heading to the airport because we have a flight to Detroit to catch. We’ll be in the Motor City for the rest of the week for Father’s Day. It’ll be great to be back home again, if for only a little while :)
So … I’ll be comin’ atcha from Detroit Rock City from tomorrow ’til Sunday! Woot!

im so jealous, im dying to see bruno mars live.
I would love to see Janelle. She is super talented!
I can’t believe you’re not a fan of Bruno Mars Trent. I think his music is so brilliant, and definitely almost an entire genre of it’s own. Got the R&B, SOul, Indie and pop..and sexyness all in one! ;) His voice is amazing, and I think any song he does a cover on sounds waaay better.
whoops… *correction*… weren’t a fan.. right? :)
Trent,
You should have seen the show when they had Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy open for them. It was fantastic and he did some amazing covers. Now thats a show for you!
Wow, you just made my morning Trent! I don’t whether the crowd were sitting down or not but she is not a sit down performer.
That and Cold War are probably my fave tracks from the LP, its great! I’m so jealous you got to see them both, I was hoping they would both come to Australia but Bruno came out before this started by himself.
Oh I still have hopes to see her live one day – I just hope it doesn’t take as long until you met Britney! haha
Janelle Monae is fabulous !
I’m seeing her at Osheaga in July and I’m so excited it’s ridiculous.
