Dakota Fanning Is The Face Of Marc Jacobs’s New Fragrance ‘Oh, Lola’

Flower Power

Earlier today we got our first look at Angelina Jolie in her new promo ad for Louis Vuitton and right now we get to see Dakota Fanning in a new promo ad for Marc Jacobs fragrances. Jacobs is releasing a new scent called Oh, Lola and Dakota is the first celebrity spokesmodel for the fragrance. Click below to see Dakota‘s (racy?) new promo image for Oh, Lola.

Her little sis Elle may be making the red carpet rounds these days, but Dakota Fanning has her own fashionable gig: she’s the face of Marc Jacobs’s latest scent, Oh, Lola. “I’ve been a big fan of Dakota since the first time I saw her in a movie,” Jacobs tells WWD. “When we were speaking about who to use in the Oh, Lola fragrance ads — I had recently seen The Runaways. Dakota was in it, and I knew she could be this contemporary Lolita, seductive yet sweet.” The fragrance, which includes notes of raspberry, frais des bois, pear, magnolia, vanilla and more, is itself a Lolita — a sweeter “little sister” to Jacobs’s successful and “seductive” Lola. Fanning, who recently graduated from high school, says she’s honored to pose for the brand. “Every time one of Marc’s fragrances comes out I run to the store to buy it,” she tells WWD. “The moment I was asked to be a part of the Oh, Lola campaign, I was so humbled and said ‘yes’ immediately.” Oh, Lola — available in various sizes from $48-$88 — will debut at Bloomingdale’s stores July, and expand nationally in August, when Fanning’s ads officially hit fashion magazines.

Some people have been making a fuss that Dakota is holding the over-sized flower bottle between her legs but I, honestly, don’t see anything wrong with the photo. Compared to most fragrance ads, this one looks really tame to me. What do y’all think … do you like this image?

That IS an odd location to put a perfume bottle… It’s an OK picture. However, I like Dakota but I think her sister, Elle Fanning, is more impressive. I saw her in “Super 8″ and she was brilliant and completely natural, not to mention extremely likable.

Well, and with the name “Oh Lola”… makes me think of Lolita, the book about an older man in love with and having a sexual relationship with a very young girl.

I don’t think that choosing the young Dakota Fanning for a perfume named Oh Lola and having her hold the bottle between her legs was an accident…

    • krissy

I agree. The name makes their intent pretty clear.

  2. Daniel

It’s all ood, the vintage picture, the size of the bottle all that gives the pictuire the vibe of kiddi porn :S

  3. perdiz

I think that people are looking to much into it. Dont they hold anything in their lap? I LOVE the pic. it is gorgeous.

  4. norma doss

DDidn’t notice the location of the bottle till u mentioned it….looks ok….nice pic!!!

  5. JCZ

The only problem I have is that the bottle looks photoshopped in!

People need to get over themselves and whatever problems they have before ranting on about something silly like this.

    Oh the media..

  6. krissy

I don’t really like the image. I think her expression is just like, “What?” From the shadow on the wall behind her, to her red eyes, …it looks very cheap. She is a gorgeous girl, but I think they could have made a better image.

    • jamie-o

i agree. i don’t mind the content being sexual, but i’m not impressed with the quality. the shadow, general washout by the flash, and the way they cropped part of her hand suggest cheap camera to me.

  7. adri

Um.. no! I love Dakota, but this looks stupid. It doesn’t catch my eye, and looks like a photo a child would take with their friends. UGH.

  8. Ella

The first thing I thought when I saw this was Dakota Fanning is such a beautiful young woman. The next thing I thought was that is an odd place to place a bottle of perfume. Do I think it’s intentional? Probably, but come on. It’s Dakota Fanning.

  9. overall the photo is horrible. doesnt do Dakota any justice. i also find it some what tastless for some reason, and the bottle isnt the reason. it really looks..cheap and kind of makes dakota look cheap.
the whole bottle thing was clearly a strategic move, nothing gets people talking quicker then a underage girl holding something between her legs.

  10. Brittny Doll

    Sad photography :( pretty shameful.

  11. Tiners

This makes me think of American Apparel ads.

    • truthyisalways

Yeah, the same level of sleaze is abundant here. This is vile. Kiddie porn-esque campaigns like this aren’t going to move bottles, it’s just going to make people feel uncomfortable. I used to shop at American Apparel until their ads made going there too embarrassing.

  12. Lyss

A young-looking girl wearing a polka-dot frilly mini-dress with a flower above her crotch? That’s no coincidence -_-. Personally not a fan of this campaign approach, but I do love all of MJ’s fragrances.

  13. Kells

When I see how upset people get over photos like this, it reminds me that this country was essentially founded by Puritans (I’m a Mayflower decendant, heard ALL the stories growing up!!) I don’t think it’s such a bad picture… Dakota is such a pretty girl, I do think there are better photos of her.

  14. Oscar

WTF.It looks like a large, fancy,”Oh will it hurt” dildo. There is nothing sexy or glamorous in the photo. The pose and even the dress is BLAH.Couldn’t Marc come up with something better?.Oh,I forgot that he doesn’t have his italian stallion with him anymore.Shame.

  15. Velaine

It’s so strange that all the girl has to do is put an object between her completely clothed legs and some of you find it suggestive. I’m not sure it’s a advertiser’s fault that the public’s minds are hyper-sensitive to sexuality. Did they do it on purpose? Probably. But man, what does it say about us that this is all it takes to make some of us think of sex. Why can’t we just see an image of a completely clothed girl holding an oddly large perfume bottle?

  16. Lisa

I just don’t get the photo. Why the supersized bottle? All the pink coloring is weird looking. I LOVE Dakota and think she’s wonderful, but the photo is not flattering.

  17. Joon

Poor taste. But then, if they had a much more innocent picture, it wouldn’t grab your attention as easily … Anything to get people talking about it is pure advertising genius, even if some don’t agree with it.

  18. Tiffany

Terrible photo of her. I really hope this was an out take.

  19. adri

I don’t care about the bottle in between Dakota’s legs.. it’s the business and it’s going to happen! I don’t like how cheap and shitty the photos are, however! It makes Dakota look bad.. and she could do much better!

  20. Jennifer

Uhhh… she’s just graduated high school with a giant flower between her legs? Can anyone say ‘deflowering’ a virgin type feel to this ad? Which, of course like someone said above, is reminiscent of child pornography (especially with the chosen colours of the ad).

  21. AmandaMarie

What a shame… I was hoping to see a nicely high fashioned piece of art and now all I feel is that I paid admission and didn’t get the ride. Super cheap! Hopefully they pull something nicer for the print ads. Dakota is deserves better.

  22. Diana

While not explicitly sexual, anyone who knows a bit about sexual symbolism or has taken Intro to Art History can see the sexual symbols in this image. The flower, the phallic symbol and how she is holding it, what appears to be a bed-like structure she is on, and on top of that, anyone who is aware of literature references would get the Lola title. The girl is growing up!
