Gwen Stefani’s Solo Days Are Dunzo!

"[My solo career] went on a little longer than we all thought it would"

Gwen Stefani, frontwoman of the band No Doubt, sat down to talk with Entertainment Weekly magazine about the future of the band that made her famous and she revealed that now that she is back in the fold, ready to make a new album with ND, she is ready to retire from her solo music career. According to Gwen, the plan was never to become a solo act … and because of that fact, she will only be making music with her bandmates in No Doubt.

It has been nearly 10 years since No Doubt dropped their last studio album, Rock Steady; five years since singer Gwen Stefani dropped her last solo album The Sweet Escape; and two years since the group reunited for a big summer tour. But Job-like No Doubt fans are about to be rewarded: Stefani, guitarist Tom Dumont, bassist Tony Kanal and drummer Adrian Young sat down with Entertainment Weekly in Santa Monica this past weekend to chat about where they’ve been—and where they’re going. And while we’re keeping the big news a secret for now (you can read the whole interview in this week’s coming issue, which is on newsstands this Friday), Stefani did tell us that the days of her being a solo artist are probably over. “That was a moment in time,” Stefani said firmly when asked about the future of her solo career. “It went on a little longer than we all thought it would, because it was inspired and you have to go with wherever you’re at in that time in your life … [But] everything works out how it should.”

Blah … not good news. As excited I am that No Doubt will be making new music together again, I am really bummed that Gwen is ending her solo career. I suppose it is a lot of work to be a mother, a wife, a fashion designer/business woman, a frontwoman for a world famous band AND a solo artist so I understand her reasoning. But her solo music is so fun, I’m upset that we won’t get any more albums from her. Still … I guess we can take heart that new No Doubt music is on the way. I suppose it’s not unreasonable that Gwen wants to enjoy her personal life as well as her professional life without having to fill every second of her free time with music making.

  1. I love her solo music too!! I so wish she would have dropped one more CD!! Oh well, hopefully she has a heavy influence on the new music from ND!

I always liked No Doubt more than I liked her solo music. Her singles were catchy at first, but grew very irritating really quickly, IMO.

  3. Lynsey

I wish the No Doubt cd would just come out already! They’ve been talking about it for years now.

Her solo stuff is good, but I always thought she was more rocker than pop and most of her solo stuff is pop. I’m pretty excited that she’ll be focusing more on No Doubt, I miss them. :)

  5. CHASE

I dig her solo stuff! No Doubt is a hit or miss with me… They have some good hits over the years but not consistently. Gwen is really fun and her second solo album was eh, but she was so cool and could definitely give Fergie a ride for her money. Boo!

A new No Doubt CD would be a totally welcome addition on the pop/top 40 scene. Would hopefully help reintroduce some rock music as a result.

I really enjoyed her first album, l.a.m.b., but her second album really disappointed me. I’m glad she’s sticking to her roots. No Doubt is so much better than Gwen Stefani, the solo artist.

So, what does this mean for the Harajuku girls?

Praise Jesus! Hallejah! Now if only, she’d disappear COMPLETELY. Wishes can come true, boys & girls.

“…you have to go with wherever you’re at in that time in your life..”

She will make more solo music, I have no doubt (no pun intended). She’ll just wait until she’s “inspired.”

Thats a pity. With her debut she was a breath of fresh air in the pop industry, especially among fame artists.

She really was Gaga before Gaga came along. Gwen actually has fashion sense however.

Good. Her solo music SUCKS. It’s annoying crap. I don’t even get how she sold CDs when her songs suck so bad. They’re all off key and ridiculous.

ummm…solo career? i’m glad she thought that one album and a second of tracks that should have been left on the cutting room floor constitutes a career. lindsay lohan and heidi montag will no longer worry that their 3 years in the music industry still count as a career! yay!

get real people! she’s saying this now so that the gwen fans buy the new nd cd. mark my words. there will be the nd album, then the tour, possibly a follow up album / deluxe edition and possibly concert film. then when she has downtime she’ll end up putting out one final solo record, doing another tour followed by the gwen’s greatest hits cd. there is no way in hell interscope will pass on the opportunity to put out a greatest hits album. there is nothing the industry loves more than giving the public a new cd of the same stuff you already own. lol
