Congratulations are in order for Twilight actress Nikki Reed and American Idol contestant Paul McDonald because the couple announced their engagement to the world at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards yesterday evening. What is really surprising about this engagement news is that the couple have only been dating for about 2 months … but at 26 and 23, I guess these crazy kids know what they are doing.
After meeting in March, Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald embarked upon a whirlwind romance – and now they’ve taken the next step. The Breaking Dawn star, 23, and her American Idol alum beau, 26, are engaged, a source confirms to PEOPLE. Posing together at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards, the couple showed off a sparkler on Reed’s left ring finger as she told E!, “He’s the one.” And to those who are concerned that the pair may be moving too fast, the actress – who is reportedly house hunting with McDonald – has an answer. “I love him and I don’t care,” Reed told PEOPLE in May. “I’ve never met anyone like him. I’ve never met anyone who has such a good solid heart and comes from such a good solid family and is just a genuine person. We have the exact same sense of humor. I’ve never laughed so much with anyone as I do with him.”
Ah, young love … impetuous, spontaneous, sometimes foolish young love. IMHO, it seems a bit too soon to be talking marriage after only about 2 months of dating but I guess when you know, you know. Here’s hoping the couple enjoy a very long and very happy life together. Let’s send the couple our heartiest congrats, yes? And our best wishes for a happy marriage.

She is absolutely gorgeous so I don’t blame him for wanting to put a ring on it before anyone else does, LOL.
One of my best friends moved in with her now husband after like maybe 3 months of dating then got engaged 3 months after that. They seem to be pretty happy. Then again we are in our mid thirties. Who knows. I dated my husband for almost 4 years before he asked me. I was never in any hurry. I knew it would happen when it would happen.
It happens occasionally. My husband and I will celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary this year and we were engaged after 8 weeks (at ages 23 and 27 respectively).

They totally met on Idol! I remember it clearly: the idols went to the Red Riding Hood premiere, she told him he was amazing, got embarrassed, gave him a hug and then it cut to him saying she’s a famous actress or something. It cracked me up at the time. How cute that the moment they met for the first time is on film like that.
This article is one of the reasons I love Pink is the New Blog. Trent doesn’t crap all over everyone’s choices but congratulates them. I think it’s nice to hear about something happy once in a while instead of the usual divorce news from celebrity couples.
