It’s Official! Nicole Scherzinger Replaces Cheryl Cole As Judge On ‘The X Factor’

Done Deal

Last month we learned that Fox and Freemantle Productions were seriously considering replacing British singer Cheryl Cole as judge on the US version of the singing competition show The X Factor because producers fear her too thick British accent might be too difficult for US audiences to understand. It was reported that US singer Nicole Scherzinger was being courted as her replacement. Just yesterday, we learned of a report that claimed that Cheryl might not be cut from the show after all because she would still be owned her $1.5 million dollar contract fee, even if she does not judge the show. But today, Fox and Freemantle have officially announced that Cheryl has been replaced by Nicole as a judge on The X Factor. Read the statement in full below.

“Nicole Scherzinger will be replacing Cheryl Cole on the judging panel of The X Factor. Nicole will join Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid and Paula Abdul on their search across America to find the next global superstar or group to win the life-changing $5 million dollar recording deal. Nicole has previously joined Simon Cowell as a guest judge on The X Factor for the UK version of the show in 2010. Steve Jones will act as sole host of The X Factor.”

Wow. They really did it. So now we know, for sure, that Nicole Scherzinger will join Paula Abdul, Antonio L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell on the judging panel … and Cheryl Cole will get the shaft? She will still have to be paid her $1.5 million. It remains to be seen if they will just cut her a check and send her on her way OR if they will find a new job for her on the show. I suppose it’s possible that Fox/Freemantle could give Cheryl Nicole‘s old co-hosting job but if her accent is truly the issue, that might not work out either. One thing’s for sure, the X Factor judging panel has been decided so that part of the show has been put to rest. But what will happen to Cheryl? That, my friends, is the $1.5 million dollar question.

  1. It’s so disgusting how this whole thing has gone down! I get that Simon might not be able to make every decision but come on! Even if he wanted Cheryl on the panel and he knew a ton of executives did not, why keep pushing when they’re most likely going to say no? This back and forth shit is gross, hasn’t helped Cheryl’s career, doesn’t look that great for Nicole (she’s the 2nd choice after all…) AND it makes the show look mad dysfunctional. I was excited for this show to come to the States but that was before The Voice showed up. :/ Simon, maybe you should have stayed with Idol?

    • no! excuse me…! for your information, nicole is a very kind and good person… you CAN only SAY such words when u already know her head to toe….! you’re only saying that because you don’t know her deeply but im sure you’ll be sorry for what you said! if you’re on her position and we’re saying such words, what can u feel? huh? just let her be and be contented… please…

    • im just saying what is on my mind… i hope u understand.. <3

THANK HEAVENS! Hopefully she will put that money to use and retire or stay inside! Sick of her.

I’m actually sad by all of this. Cheryl Cole was the better choice from the beginning. So who cares if people may or may not be able to understand her. Get her some damn elocution lessons and be done with it. Nicole Scherzinger is a horrible second choice for a judge. They should have just stuck with three judges. Worked on Idol for years. This is a great way to make sure people tune in to at least the first episode. I know I sure will. Then it will depend on how Nicole does as a judge to determine if people will keep coming back week after week.

They have to have four judges as there are four acts to mentor. The boys, girls, groups and over 25′s. three judges wouldn’t work. feel bad for cheryl =( she hasn’t even been able to get her job back on the UK version either. sucks balls!

Well, I sure missed Simon and Paula, so I’ll probably tune in! I just hope they don’t argue as much as they during their last 2 seasons together in AI. Nicole and L.A., don’t care about them…and having 4 judges takes time away from the contestants, IMO. Hopefully all 4 judges won’t have to comment after every performance- that gets to beboring.

  5. i read that Cheryl could possibly be a “guest” judge.

  6. Gigi

I’m truly sickened by this. I was so excited about the US version and with it having Cheryl whom I loved on the last 3 series of X Factor UK. Now i wonder if i will even watch this. BAD BAD move…

I like cheryl but she gets annoying after a while. And crys like a little bitch none stop.

  8. CHASE

I’m so surprised that people are making such a big deal about this. Cheryl is a watered down version of Britney and I don’t find her to be very talented. At least Britney had the “it” factor whereas Cheryl does not… She’s more media than talent. Her music isn’t even that great, either, but she is really pretty.

Well I think this just sucks. However it went down, some bad decisions were made. I think the execs panicked, they should have waited to see America’s reaction to Cheryl. Whether america liked her or not, the show would have been a hit either way, and at least they would have taken a risk and not made themselves look incompetent and the show look completely all over the place.

I don’t even understand all this rubbish about her accent. Steve Jones has a welsh accent but apparently that isn’t a problem. And ‘no chemistry’? After all that long drawn out process of choosing the judges, no one thought to get them in a room together first to check they gelled, like every film studio screen tests their leads?! Ugh, someone should be fired for this, and it shouldn’t have been cheryl.

  10. Jade

Well personally I think she Cheryl would’ve been a better judge than Nicole. Didn’t Simon not see Nicole on that acapella judging show that I can’t remember? lol She was so horrible on there.

  11. Kattmow

Maybe she cab be hired as toilet staff… So when some stuck up premadonna hits and spits on her all over a lollipop she will then know how bad it feels!
