Mariah Carey Reveals The Names Of Her Twin Babies

Earlier today we learned that Mariah Carey teased the names of her twin babies on her official Twitter profile yesterday and JUST NOW, the names of her children have been announced. The girl baby has been named Monroe and the boy baby has been named Moroccan Scott. Yes, for real. Read below for all the deets about how Mariah and Nick Cannon decided to name their children.

Mariah Carey and her husband Nick Cannon have finally revealed the names of their twins who were born in Los Angeles on Saturday. Their son is named Moroccan Scott Cannon. Scott is Nick’s middle name, as well as his grandmother’s maiden name. The top tier of Mariah’s New York City apartment is called the Moroccan Room, because of the Moroccan-inspired decor. It’s also the place where Nick proposed to his wife, overlooking Manhattan! Their daughter’s name is Monroe Cannon. Mariah’s rep says she does not have a middle name because Mariah herself does not have one. Monroe was named after Marilyn Monroe, who has been an inspiration to Mariah her whole life. In fact, Mariah purchased the Hollywood icon’s white piano from Christie’s auction house and it is in Mariah’s will that the piano will one day go to the Smithsonian. Mariah’s rep, Cindi Berger, tells CNN, “It has been a long, emotional journey for this family, and I couldn’t be happier for all of them.”

Yes, folks, her kids can actually be referred to as Mo Mo. As I mentioned earlier, my guess was that Mimi was going to announce her baby names with the release of the first baby photos (in order to maximize the impact) but I guess that turned out not to be the case. This way, I suppose, Mimi can create a sensation with the baby name announcement AND then again with the baby photos.

I, for one, think the names are interesting … not too wacky … but unique. So … I gotta know … what do YOU think of the names Monroe and Moroccan Scott? Do you like these names for Mariah and Nick’s babies?

  • Roze

    hate it

  • stef

I totally thought Monroe was the boy’s name at first…and loved it. Not sure how I feel about it for a girl, or how I feel about his name…lol. Oh well, not my babies. But I do love how much thought they put into it, that’s sweet! So happy for them.

  • mary

Oh?????? I thought she was going to name them Michael and Madeline or Marylin & Marcus. Whatever floats there boats I guess?

  • loriannakim

i think morrocco is just weird : (

  • Jess

Moroccan Cannon? Sounds like a weapon or a superhero. FUG.
    Monroe, however, is cute.

  • Gina

I love Monroe as a first name! It’s really pretty! But moroccan Scott sounds like a game show hosts name. But if they love it that’s what matters!

  • Frog

If I have a son I want to name him Cannon. lol

  • Grace

    Moroccan Scott Cannon?
    Poor kid.

  • Danielle

Moroccan Scott sounds like a brand of fertilizer, or grass seed. That kid is screwed.

  • Jenny

@Gina, or a professional wrestler- “And it’s the Moroccan Cannon with the Blast Off off the top rope to beat The Miz for the championship title!”

Moroccan is an adjective, not a name, but it’s still better than Moon Unit.

  • SuzieB

Hmm not sure how I feel about Moroccan as a name… it reminds me of the Moroccan oil I put on my hair! LOL
Monroe is fitting for Mariah’s daughter though. I like that.

  • Alyssa

At least they picked names with meaning. I like Monroe for a girl. Morocco is a bit strange but who knows, it could go trendy. Congrats to their family regardless!

  • Lisa Lisa

I actually really like Monroe. Not a fan of Moroccan. Even Morocco would be much better than Moroccan, IMO.

    • @Lisa Lisa — I agree, Morocco sounds better than Moroccan.

    • Maddie

Yep. I like that better too. I first thought Moroc(k) though. Morock and Monroe. :)

    • Debho

Yes, I think Morocco sounds better too. Not keen on the Monroe. Sounds a little austere for a girl’s name.

  • shannon m

Moroccan Cannon sounds like a mixed drink…or some type of sexual practice LOL

  • Robyn

Not a fan of the names. I also agree Morocco would have been much better!

I have always liked the name William for a boy, but now I’m married with the last name Smith. As much as I like the fresh prince of bel-air… I do not want my future son to be named Will Smith, haha.

  • Lexifer

    Better than apple.

  • nicole

i like the names…Nick said they would be unique..but not way out there. and atleast theres a good meaning behind them, it seems like they actually gave it some thought.
Moroccan will probably have have a couple nick names to go by, odds are good he’ll probably never be called Moroccan at home, only in the press.

  • Laura

Moroccan Scott sounds like an adjective: “You know, Scott. Which one? Moroccan Scott. The one from Morocco.”

    • Lisa

  • sarahhh

unique and i love it! especially Monroe!

  • Mariah

Monroe is cute. Moroccan, however, WHAT THE FUCK?! NO!

  • Ama

I think they are interesting and unique names. Both names have a story or meaning behind them to the couple. Personally though I think Moroccan should have been the middle name and Scott the first name. I guess they could just call him by his middle name or “Moro”.

  • sarah

i think it works. Roc and Monroe perfect for babies of Mariah.

  • Liz

Their names turned out be very surprising to me. I was waiting for some wacky name, but they are unique and normalish.

  • Lisa

Not bad- I sort of like Monroe (and think Marilyn would have also been nice). Moroccan…not a fan. I like “Roc” as a nickname though. I just think Moroccan Cannon sounds odd.

  • Kieren

Moroccan? LMAO. This woman is a loon…

  • b

I think their nicknames should be “Roc ‘n’ Roe” :)

    • Liz

    • karjofas

      totally agree!

    • Lex

      PERFECT! hahahaha

  • Spitzi

    Roc and Ro. Perfect.

  • Sherman

You have a copy of one of the nude pix! Nick admitted to taking nude pix with his wife, but I had not seen one anywhere.

How did you get it — are there more you can show?

    I love his scrawny bod.

  • lv

names are whatever… what i love is everyone’s responses. sitting at the end of my work day laughing by myself! thanks all!

    this was my fav-
    from laura…
Moroccan Scott sounds like an adjective: “You know, Scott. Which one? Moroccan Scott. The one from Morocco.”

  • Kelly

I know a girl who just had a baby last month and named her Monroe. I think it’s a very sweet name. I also agree that I like Morocco better, but hey..they aren’t my babies :-) I bet they’re cute!

  • Natalie

Moroccan Cannon is just wrong. It sounds so sexual!

    Monroe is nice though.

    • Capt. Crunch Jr.

I agree with you there. Saying it aloud makes it sound like “my rockin cannon”

  • Isabella

of COURSE she gives her kids the initials MC. Not at all surprised there…I’d only have been more surprised if she named them both Mariah.

  • gayana

all his classmates gona think he’s morroccan and tease hime bout it =/ not the best name for the kid as he has to live with it.
    Like Monroe though.

i thought she couldnt have kids but they probally tried like every night but SERIOUSLY those names are TARDATIOUS!!LOL
would not wanna have thier name thier names are DUMMIE stuiped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Sanchez

      Huh? What language is that?

  • BB Jones

I would rather concentrate on that picture. She looks like a women who feels loved both by her man and her babies.
Look at the expression on her face. She feels loved both inside and outside. Wow!! What a feeling, every woman should
    experience that kind of feeling!
As for the names, they are a lot better than dweezle, apple,
    or moon unit.
They are the parents, and the names mean a lot to them.
So, here’s to the Cannon family may they be blessed for ever.

  • strawberry

gosh I could SO see the boy’s gonna be called Moron Scott for his entire high school years….
