@ Lori: I respect that you like Gaga, but *if* she talks about media theories in her interviews — I’ve no proof she does — it’s because many pop stars are schooled in media theories, as are their teams. Gaga just talks openly about them because that’s what she does, she talks about how great and wonderful she is. Herein lies the problem. Where Britney and Kesha SAY their music is fun, Gaga takes it to another level by claiming her music and message are greater. She may be interesting and wanting to promote equality (great!), but she’s not any better than any other pop star, even if she claims to be. Her message of being better is a part of a media theory: lie, lie big and people will believe it. Madonna (!) has been doing it for years —- how original Gaga! She has a team that promotes her just like the teams of Kesha, Britney and Katy. Gaga might give a few more ideas and a few more poorly written songs, but she’s really no different, despite what she claims.

It’s fine if Gaga does this though, it’s just another marketing ploy. What’s annoying is people eating it up. Stick up for her music as being great, but let’s be honest, Gaga’s not really an artist in as much as she’s someone who uses artistry to perpetuate her celebrity. I think there’s a fine line between artist and using artistry to make yourself the most talked about celeb. Either way, Gaga is, as you say, using media theories well. But she’s not an artist, just a smart promoter of her own brand (COPIED FROM EVERYONE IN THE BOOK). Oh, and if you want REAL talent, why listen to pop music for it? There’s so much more real talent in the world than Lady Gaga and her pop contemporaries.

Let’s see…

First, Trent never bashes Gaga. He barely even ever writes about her. If you are referring to the recent magazine article, he was merely saying that she shouldn’t use negative language against people with disabilities as she did.

Second, I never get my people always ask why we are Britney fans because she doesn’t sing or do anything? We love Britney in spite of that stuff. She always has and always will have the IT factor. No matter what, I can’t stop loving her. She has worked hard for that unconditional support over these years, so what if she’s not at her top performance-wise? She still delivers the hits and that’s more than you can say for some people who were making music 12 years ago.

Third, yes, Gaga’s music is so real. I remember that time I met a monster at a club and he left me speechless. Oh and that other time when I had a bad romance with Alejandro. The paparazzi were all about it. I’m so sick of people putting Gaga on a pedestal. She makes cheesy pop music just like everyone else, she just tells you it’s gold and you believe it.

In conclusion, Britney has earned my support for consistently making me happy as a fan. She is always sweet and always gives me the music I want and that is all the matters. Why can’t we all just like who we like and dance till the world ends?

I am a devout Britney fan and without going into a (very) detailed rant, I do thank her for helping me accept myself for being gay. I, like many, was an insecure 11 year old boy back in ’99 trying to find myself (I know cheesy as hell) and her music often comforted me as I was crushing, being miserable, and feeling sad over everything that was happening during my adolescence.

At 14 I remember watching a special on MTV where they released her Britney album and long story short after introducing the song “Boys”, a male audience member screamed and she said “Yea, sometimes a boy just needs one too” and at 14, Britney my idol, saying that, genuinely did help me accept myself and I soon came out after that.

I don’t think one needs to bluntly say GAYS this GAYS that. There are ways to reach many very subtly, and just as powerfully. Plus, what I love about Britney, is that no matter how famous she is, she still gets insecure and nervous when accepting an award or being on stage–to me–shows how human she is, not a self-righteous faux deity.

No. marketing goes only so far. the artist has to back it up. britneys empire is HUGE. the only people following her are her fans from before. i doubt she gets new fans.so no matter how much marketing power you have, you need the right product behind it.
