Wonder Woman Script Changes Make The Superhero A Badass

Upgrade!!

I am happy to report that it sounds like the Wonder Woman TV series, planned for a Fall release this year, continues to be changed for the better. As you may recall, after fan outrage over the tackiness of the first version of the new Wonder Woman costume started to spread, the costume was changed to appease fan criticism. Previously we heard some very upsetting things about the script for the show that seemed to weaken the Wonder Woman character. Today we learn that the script has been changed so that WW is a more powerful, badass character … as she should be!

When David E. Kelley’s draft pilot script for Wonder Woman leaked online, the early reaction was not kind, to say the least. The script included lots of Diana crying, moping over ice cream, and hunching in a fetal position. But since that draft, which was dated December 2010, there have been a ton of rewrites on Kelley’s script. And at least some of them seem to have been aimed at making Diana more of a formidable ass-kicker. We read the new pages, and here’s what’s different. We got a hold of a bunch of Wonder Woman pages that were released for casting purposes, including some new revised pages released in February and March, as the pilot was shooting. A lot of the additions seem focused on making Diana seem more formidable, to head off criticisms that she’s too weepy and self-pitying. (It’s also possible the episode was bumped up from a one-hour to a two-hour pilot.)

IF you want to read spoilers about the pilot episode of Wonder Woman, you can do so HERE. I am very happy to learn that the writers have decided to shy away from the weak character they initially tried to give us and have, instead, made the character much stronger. In the end, we’ll have to wait to see how the show turns out to make any real judgments about the changes but … I’m really happy to know that the WW folks (and David E. Kelley, in particular) are actually listening to fan criticism. Wonder Woman is such a beloved character by so many … they have to treat her right. I have more confidence now that this new Wonder Woman might actually turn out great.

Maybe this girl will be good. I was thinking that katy perry looks exactly like Wonder Woman. I wonder if they approached her.

I totally agree! Katy Perry would be my pick looks wise for a Wonder Woman movie, if only she weren’t so stupid, lol.

Man this show looks like is going to be soooo dumb.

    • @jacqui — Why do you say that? I really like everything I’ve seen thus far. It may turn out to be a pretty cool update of the original show.

I generally love shows of this genre, but they have to be smart, edgy, and sophisticated. I’m just not getting that from this so far. The snippets of dialogue they shared in the article are embarrassing and make me cringe. The costume is just… aw-ful. I haven’t seen the pilot, so maybe I’ll change my mind. But for now, I feel like they haven’t added much innovation to the original show concept. And while that show was awesome for its time, times have changed and standards are higher. I mean there better be some good writers and directions on this or it’s gonna sink like a turd. People expect more story out of there comic series these days.

    Hello, Trent!

I just thought you would like to know that they are keeping that first costume- Wonder Woman will have three costumes for this series. One of which has short shorts- kind of like Wonder Woman’s original costume!
