Listen: Beyoncé, ‘Girl (Who Runs The World)’ (20 Second Snippet)

Earlier this week we saw photos of Beyoncé on the set of her new music video HERE and HERE and today we not only get to see more photos from the video set but we get our FIRST LISTEN of Beyoncé‘s new song Girl (Who Runs the World). Only a short snippet of music has leaked its way online but it does give us a taste of what’s to come from B‘s new album (reportedly due out in June). Check out the new photos and HEAR a clip from her new song below.

Who runs the world? Beyoncé, apparently:

I need to hear more to make a full assessment of the song … but I like what I hear thus far. I hope it won’t be long until the song gets released in full … especially since the video is nearing completion. What do y’all think of Beyoncé‘s new club banger Girl (Who Runs the World)? Do you like?

  1. didn’t know she was using a major lazer sample until now
sounds ok, although the snippet is a bit too short to really judge ;)

  2. CHASE

I’m sorry, but I find this pathetic. I’m all for sampling songs, but this sample is a huge sample from the original and I find it funny how Rihanna did, “Only Girl (In The World)” and then Beyonce does “Girl (Who Runs The World)” <— LOL x5

    • krissy

Yes, both songs use the word “Girl”…but the meaning of the phrases are quite different. The use of the word “girl” matters that much to you?

    • CHASE

I just find it funny, Krissy. You’re forgetting ‘world’ too, by the way.

  3. I was thinking it sounds just like the title from Rihanna as well Chase. Her and GaGa are friends you know and have been known to copy and steal everyone elses ideas.

    • Ter

Wow talk about HATERS! You want to speak so much on the songs having the same title. Beyonce has done a song in the past called Girl. Many other artist have done songs in the past mentions girl empowerment. All LONG before Rihanna. Also, Rihanna’s song is talking about a guy making her feel as though she’s the only thing that exist. Beyonce is talking about female empowerment. Sooo… I’m confused as to how they are the same. Only if I were a hater would I even make such a stupid comment. Lol

  4. Daniel

Isn`t that the “B” logo that Britney SPears used in her circus tour?

    • @Daniel — It looks like it, yeah.

    • Mark

That B was used for her album B’Day back in ’07

    • krissy

That font style is pretty typical and you could find it many places…not to mention Jay-Z has been calling her “B” since at least 2003 in Bonnie and Clyde. People are getting a little over zealous with the copying thing. Either people are such die hards of their own faves that they can’t see straight, or they have a very shallow pool of font/lyric/visual references to draw from.

Yesterday it was saying she was stealing from Rhythm Nation (because that video had lots of colorful dresses slit to the thigh, right?). Now it is font. It just seems like people are going out of their way to find something to complain about instead of just saying, “I don’t like Beyonce”. There are some things that this has in common with what other artists have done, but there are far more things that it DOESN’T have in common. Let’s use some perspective.

    • Daniel

Not only the letter but also the backgrownd, the red colors too, that’s why I said it look like the logo for circus tour…

  5. music

    too short too judge really.
The picks look like vid will be something.
Theres another snippet floating around that sounds real good.
I hope the song suprises me in a good way.

  6. Shawn

Does anyone else notice how this samples from Kelis? In her All Hearts Tour the intro to 4th of July (Fireworks) is the exact same sound. First Beyonce copies Britney’s B logo now this… Not very impressed and I normally like her.

  7. Jesse

Brits been wearing that B logo wise since 03 everytime video Mark….

  8. bosie

    BORING!

  9. Mario

I wish people would stop saying people are copying this person or that person. People take things from everyone, including complaining that Beyonce is stealing from other artists, especially people like Britney and Rhianna… (Personally, if I could get rid of those other two and have Beyonce redo all their tracks, I’d be happy.) Anyway, get over it. It’s how the world works.
It’s Beyonce. She’s an amazing artist, with talent that very few artists have these days. If she wants to make a dance track, she’s going to make a dance track and it’s going to be popular. People didn’t initially like single ladies either, but look how that song took over. I think it sounds great, and I’m sure it’s going to be another multi-platinum album with a sold-out tour. I’m looking forward to her new album.

    • The beat is a TOTAL and DIRECT STEAL of Major Lazer’s “Pon de Floor”. I’ve been in love with that song since it’s been released. Check your facts before you defend an artist who didn’t even try to be original. Forget about copying, the girl directly took it.

    • LaTigresse

Wow! I love Pon de Floor too, Amanda Marie, and I totally agree with you… this is a total ripoff……… But really it is not surprising coming from Beyoncé.

    • krissy

AmandaMarie, you are the one that needs to check your facts dear. In order to use a sample, the original writer must SIGN OFF on that. They get paid for everytime it is played (through organziations like ASCAP), and every time the song is sold. You can not legally sample without explicit legal permission.

You can’t “STEAL” something that the original owner SOLD.
Sampling is a part of modern music, and you will have to get used to that. The rest of the world got it 10 years ago.

  10. J

    I don’t like Beyonce so yeah I’ll come across as a hater…

But yeah they may have different meanings but Rihanna’s song and this, coincedence? C’mon
She looks stupid in all these outfits, shes never been one to dress like that and then BOOM Telephone comes around and messes with her head.
The ‘B’ logo – no one copies the real B,

I know Sasha Fierce did make use of a bit of electro in some songs, but now that Dance is the craze in mainstream Pop music, cause Beyonce sings Pop not R&B, she tags along!
Rolling Stone were right to say Blackout is the most influential pop album of the last 5 or 10 years. Gaga comes knockin, Beyonce comes knockin, Rihanna went knockin.

Oh and also, this sounds like another annoying chanting, repetitive song that Beyonce can only seem to write, as with Gaga. Go to college, maybe sit through a course of Writing and learn not to repeat your words one after the after all the time. Its the only way they are able to achieve some sort of hit.

Let’s just hope this doesn’t have a cheesy line like, “I love my life, I love this record and.. sjhjhgndhdkhgg”

    • J

Oh and FYI if ‘Girl (Who Runs The World)’ turns out to be the real title, then Beyonce should start pronouncing the ‘s’ in Runs. Her father should have kept her in school rather quit his job and become full time manager buying her Grammy’s… oh if that happen we wouldnt have Beyonce… DAMN!

And M.I.A. did the Revolution/Dance thing first & Miss Jackson if you’re nasty!

  11. Sheesh, talk about a full on sample of Major Lazer’s “Pon de Floor”… Not impressed. I enjoy samples, but this is almost a total steal of a song. She should be much more original.

  12. cutitout

    Meh… Imma need a bit more…

  13. blah

hello she worked with major lazer he wanted her to use his beat cause as you can see she done her shit

  14. John

ummmmmmmm considering that swizz beats produced the song you should blame him not her…..at least she wrote her on words

  15. NewsBug_Lillace

This Songs Already A Hit From The Snippet So. Bye Britney Nd Rihanna U Guys Aint Hitting for lonq. And i love how bey say Girl She says it like Gwarls!

  16. BIG

Say all the shit you want about her. She’s still better than your favorite artist.

  17. I’m sure Major Lazer was very nicely compensated for the use of Pon De Floor its not like she just took it. She took a tight beat and is putting Beyonce on it, and there isn’t anything wrong with that. Some of the best radio songs have had their start in alternative dance / electro.

  18. LaTigresse

For sure, its gonna be a hit for the people that didnt know the song before!! To me, it’s simply not original…… I’ve danced too much on Pon da Floor, I had it on my playlist for a whiiiile. This is old stuff, nothing ground breaking since it has been done before by Major Lazor and Afrojack.

  19. LaTigresse

oups typo! I meant major lazer ;)

  20. Personally I see it as a coup for Major Lazaer. This use of their song is going to (hopefully) bring them a new audience. People are already talking about them more on this blog then I think they ever have before and if they like this use of their song hopefully they’ll find the original and keep listening to them. This is massive for them, and I’m happy for their success.
