The Cast Of ‘The Facts Of Life’ Reunite At The TV Land Awards

Last weekend the principal cast of The Facts of Life reunited on stage at the 2011 TV Land Awards to collect this year’s Pop Culture Award. Altho we have to wait until this coming weekend to watch the awards show, we do get to check out some photos from the event below … along with a preview of the TV Land Awards courtesy of ABC News. The Facts of Life ladies gave an interview to Good Morning America today and, well, it’s prolly easier if you just watch the clip instead of my explaining it to you.

You take the good, you take the bad, you reunite them merely for the sake of nostalgia and there you have the video from today’s episode of Good Morning America below. In it, The Facts of Life’s principal actresses—Charlotte Rae, Lisa Whelchel, Kim Fields, Mindy Cohn, Nancy McKeon, Cloris Leachman and Geri Jewell—reunite for the first time on camera since the series ended, in advance of their scheduled appearance at the TV Land Awards (Sunday, April 17, 9/8c). A clip from their taped awards show appearance is easily the best part of this video— in it, Charlotte Rae says she’s so proud of her girls because, “They all turned out to be straight! Straight!” I guess that clears up the longstanding rumors about Jo, but it does not account for Geri Jewell’s recent coming out. (I kid, I kid: Rae goes on to clarify that she wasn’t referring to sexuality.) Mostly, it’s just great to see the gang back together, answering the same questions they have individually for years and will undoubtedly go on to answer in the years ahead. After this video, just one question remains: where’s Pippa?

Sigh. I LIVED for The Facts of Life. I have watched every single episode of the show a few times … going way back to the original cast of the show that included Molly Ringwald. It would’ve been just INSANE if TV Land managed to get the entire, entire cast all together (including George Clooney) but … this is the cast that most people remember. I love Charlotte Rae (who played Mrs. Garrett). The woman looks fantastic for her age (she’s about to turn 85) … I am happy to see her looking so well. The other ladies look great too … but, yes, they do look much older these days. I am really looking forward to watching the TV Land Awards this weekend … this reunion looks really fun. What a great show … they really don’t make TV shows these days like they used to. Any Facts of Life fans out there? Which eps are your faves?

    LOVE the Facts of Life!

I loved the Facts of Life! Everytime I study for finals I remember the hat that Natalie wore when she studied for finals.

Love that show! Mackenzie Astin was on way more episodes than Geri. Still love him.

I own the first 5 seasons, but they need to release the rest on DVD! My favorites were a couple wacky ones they did – Natalie writing a story (Charo showed up!), and a Twilight Zone inspired fabulous episode from late in the series

The Twilight Zone episode is the funniest. I have an old VHS tape with that episode and it still cracks me up.

I used to watch that show all the time when it was on Nick@Nite! It was amazing. I want to watch it now. : ( Blair was my favorite!

What a great blast from the past! LOVED that show!

It’s amazing they all still look so much like themselves. The chemistry between them is obviously still there. <3 them.

  • Ooohhhh, I loved that show!

  • truthyisalways

OMG the cast still looks fabulous!

    • @truthyisalways — I agree! Charlotte Rae is almost 85! She looks fantastic. I just love these ladies :)

  • Marcus

Absolutely loved this post. The Facts of Life was such a great show especially with Tootie and those damn skates. For the longest time, I wondered when they would finally let her walk. I definitely need to get the seasons of DVD.

I went to the taping of the TV Land Awards and they all looked FANTASTIC! They were so interactive with each other throughout the whole show. It was so cool to be in the same room as them and also the casts of “Welcome Back, Kotter” and “Family Ties”! It looks like they are ALL still close with each other after all these years.

  • Andretti

No they don’t make shows like this anymore, they make better ones like Community, Mad Men, The Good Wife and Breaking Bad. Sure, I liked TFL well enough, but it was extremely corny at times, preachy and heavy handed.

  • Dee

Jo and Natalie were always my favorites. I also had the biggest crush on Nancy McKeon’s brother, Philip. I think he was on Alice.

  • Heather Dunham

I don’t think it’s true that this is the “first time they’re together since the show went off the air 20 years ago”. There was a reunion special TV movie a few years back… The characters all got together at some hotel in the woods or something… some had husbands, kids, they had their careers… and hijinks ensued, of course.

Nancy McKeon did not do the Reunion special where they all got together at the hotel. This is the first time all of them have been together – it was great to see them especially Nancy McKeon and Lisa Whelchel.
