Now that Ricky Martin is well out of the closet as a gay man and after he very publicly acknowledged his relationship with longtime boyfriend Carlos Gonzalez at the GLAAD Media Awards in NYC last month, there is a new report going around that claims that Ricky and Carlos are planning to get married. Now, because Ricky and Carlos can’t get married legally in Puerto Rico, the belief is that the couple may get married in Carlos‘s home country of Spain … where same-sex marriage has been legal since 2005. Could we be hearing wedding bells soon for Mr. Ricky Martin?
Singer Ricky Martin wants to marry his boyfriend Carlos Gonzalez and the couple is considering marrying in Spain. During an appearance Monday on Spain’s El Progama de Ana Rosa, journalist Miguel Angel Nicolas said the couple was considering marrying in Spain. He added that the Spanish model Esther Canadas, a friend of the Living’ la Vida Loca singer, has offered to help Martin become a Spanish citizen. Spain legalized gay marriage in 2005. Martin cannot marry in Puerto Rico, a territory of the United States, because it is not legal. While five states and the District of Columbia have legalized gay marriage, federal law does not recognize such unions. In accepting an award from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), Martin thanked his family and Gonzalez, who was seated in the audience, for their support. Gonzalez also attended Martin’s inaugural concert in Puerto Rico for his Musica+Alma+Sexo (Music+Soul+Sex) world tour.
I think it would be fantastic if Ricky and Carlos got hitched. The couple have been together for a very long time. Here are a few photos of the couple thruout the years … staring most recently with their appearance at the GLAAD Media Awards last month, with Ricky‘s young sons Matteo & Valentino (and nanny) last year and frolicking on the beach together a few years ago when Ricky was still hiding his sexuality:
The couple have been thru a lot together … and they are still going strong. It would be so wonderful if Ricky and Carlos could be married just like any heterosexual couple. I hope this report is true … I would LOVE to be among the first to celebrate and congratulate the happy couple on getting married!
