Last month we learned that the upcoming new Spider-Man film, starring Andrew Garfield in the lead role of Peter Parker / Spider-Man, will be less of a reboot of the original film franchise and more of a continuation of the Spider-Man timeline. Today we learn that the main villain of The Amazing Spider-Man may have inadvertently been revealed accidentally by actor C. Thomas Howell. In an interview with Howell about his part in the film, he mentions a scene with a classic Spider-Man villain which seems to confirm who the main bad guy will be. If you would like to find out who it is, you can do so below.
A potentially major spoiler from The Amazing Spider-Man, the new Spidey reboot starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, appears to have been revealed by a surprising source: C. Thomas Howell (The Outsiders). The actor, who appears in the flick, said in a podcast on The RetroRadio that Garfield’s Spider-Man battles the Lizard in one of the film’s major action sequences. Said Howell, “I play a relatively small role. I play a construction worker whose son is caught in the middle of a battle between the Lizard and Spider-Man and we’re on the Manhattan Bridge. Spider-Man helps me get my son back in a perilous situation. At the end of the movie, there is a little bit of a payback there. Spider-Man is kind of hurting and I help him. Part of the story is the nation thinks he might be a bad guy at first. They don’t know who this guy is. Because of my experience on the bridge with my kid, I know he is a good guy. So, I pitch in and sort of help out at the end.”
Fans have been assuming that The Lizard would be the villain ever since it was reported that Rhys Ifans was cast in the film. I do not believe the studio has officially stated which role Ifans will play but it is widely presumed he will play Dr. Curt Connors / The Lizard. While it’s possible there may be another villain thrown into the mix (Carnage, perhaps?), I think it’s pretty safe to assume now that The Lizard will likely be the main bad guy.
