Remember in May of last year when we saw a super scary photo of 50 Cent (real name Curtis James Jackson, III) lookin’ super skinny and extremely unwell? You may recall that he had slimmed down for a film titled Things Fall Apart. Today we get our first look at Fiddy in the film and it is not a pretty sight. Tho, very surprisingly and based solely on the movie’s trailer, it looks like this movie might be a spectacular hit film.
He famously launched onto the music scene with his 2003 multi-million-selling album Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ – and 50 Cent has shown his dogged commitment to success in his latest film role. The 35-year-old rapstar – real name Curtis Jackson – underwent drastic weightloss to play an American football player stricken with cancer to the extent he almost looked on the brink of death in real life. The star went on a strict liquid diet and spent three hours every day in the gym to lose four stone in two months to drop to under 11 stone for his starring role in Things Fall Apart. The usually musclebound singer however has since put the weight back on since he finished shooting the film, which also stars Ray Liotta, last summer. ‘Fiddy’ said he was inspired to lose the weight by Robert De Niro who lost 35lbs for his award-winning role in Taxi Driver in 1976. Director Mario Van Peebles paid tribute to the rapper, saying: ‘50 was not at all what I expected. 50 is a really focused, bright, disciplined, affable cat. In terms of directing him, he’s a dream.’

The sight of Fiddy looking so frail is shocking, yes, but I think I’m even more shocked by the fact that this film looks so good. I actually got choked up watching this trailer. I’m thinking that Things Fall Apart may do for 50 Cent what 8 Mile did for Eminem. What do y’all think of this film? Does it look like something you’d be interested in seeing? Are you as surprised as I am that Fiddy looks like a good actor?

Anyways, um, yes, it does look good. He lost 50+ pounds for this role, so hopefully he gets an Oscar nomination or some shizz like that. Word. But, oh, that wig… : /
“Most Critically acclaimed role of his career??” What career? Did you happen to see his previous (and first) movie? The sublime delight that is ‘Get rich or die trying’? Dropping pounds is the easy part bitch, acting’s where the talent’s at. He’s a rapper and he needs to stick to rhyming words, whining/boasting about his wealth and yelling threats from behind a line of bodyguards. This movie is “cumming soon” for sure. And all over the scene. So stay the hell outta the way!
50 has actually done a few movies, just all of them have gone straight to DVD. not that im a fan of his acting lol

I wondered at first if it was supposed to be a satire, a comedy, in part because of that horrible wig… and you were being sarcastic… But no, I think it’s supposed to be serious.
I’m sorry, but I have to agree that this trailer is BAD. Maybe the movie is good, and I bet he probably can act half-decently… but you don’t really see any of that in this trailer. Just blank stares, and lots of SUPER cheesy cliche one-liners from everyone.

How is his acting good, the clip only showed a few seconds of him actually talking, and other clips of him looking into the sky for hope. Just because he lost weight doe snot make him a good actor, just a dedicated actor.
I had to read this comment several times because I kept laughing at ‘doe snot’! I don’t really have any desire to see this, but damned if I don’t love Ray Liotta. He is an amazing actor and can make anything watchable. Corrina, Corrina anyone? :s
Yikes, that trailer is awful! And no, judging by the trailer I don’t think this movie will do as well as 8 Mile. That movie had a slick raw vibe to it. This looks very cheese-ball-ish…

It looks like a made for tv movie. I agree the trailer needs to be retooled because this one is not making me want to see it at all.
