The newly tattooed Vanessa Hudgens paid a visit to The Late Show with David Letterman to promote her new film Beastly. The less said about that atrocious movie, the better … so let’s move on. Vanessa was very excited to show off her new tattoo — a butterfly inked to the back of her neck — so, apparently, she chose to show it off on national television first for David Letterman.

[I]t seems Vanessa Hudgens is determined to leave her Disney past behind her, and reinvent herself as a ‘badass’. The 22-year-old actress started her reinvention with a butterfly tattoo on her neck, and last night revealed the inspiration behind the inking during an interview on the Late Show with David Letterman. She said: ‘It was very last minute, but I’ve actually wanted it for years. A butterfly landed on my mum’s stomach a week before I was born and that’s how I got my name, because Vanessa means butterfly – it’s a Latin derivative. ‘It’s my very first tattoo, and I kind of feel like a badass now!’
As I said before, I like the tattoo much more that it is colored in. Yes, it’s big but she seems to really love it so … good for her! I’m not the biggest Vanessa Hudgens fan but I think she is growing on me. Beastly looks wretched so I don’t think I can support her on that front … but as for the tattoo, yeah, I’m on board!

i love that tattoo
It looks like a rub on tattoo…how did they get it so perfect!?
a badass? really? its a butterfly…its cute though, especially now that i know the story behind it.
at first i was like a butterfly really? it seams a ton of girls get butterflies just because they are cute but the fact that there is a story behind hers makes it much more interesting to me :) its really cute as well so that helps. :)
badass and butterfly should not be in the same sentance… and its hardly reinventing yourself but getting a butterfly tattoo
it’s a nice tattoo, but I have to disagree on the “it’s big” part.. it looks like it’s the size of a 50cent piece… I’m half sleeved and my lower legs are done, so I think my perspective is a little different. But, I love the story behind it and she looks so happy w/ it, and that’s the way it should be. Tattoos are so personal, I’m glad she got what she wanted and is happy with the results.
Okay, I can definitely get on board with this now that it has some meaning to it.
i love that tattoo, this tattoo is real
