In the wake of the stunning success of Britney Spears‘s just-released new single Hold It Against Me this week, a new rumor started to go around yesterday that claims that our dear Britney will be performing during the 2011 Grammy Awards next month. According to People magazine, Britney will NOT be performing at the show and her own people have issued a statement saying that any news not officially released by them is merely “rumor”. But, I have it on good authority that plans are in the works to get Britney to perform during the awards show so … who to believe?
Don’t hold it against her – but Britney Spears isn’t performing at this year’s Grammy Awards, her label tells PEOPLE. Contrary to reports online Tuesday, the pop star, 29, who just released her new single, “Hold It Against Me,” which already rose to No. 1 on iTunes charts, has no plans to sing live on the Feb. 13 telecast. Adds a source: “I really doubt it.” A full list of Grammy presenters and performers is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The awards show will air live from L.A.’s Staples Center on CBS.
It is possible that these denials are true … for now. I have it on very good authority that the Grammy folks are working to make the Britney performance happen … so mebbe the deal isn’t set yet and, therefore, her record label can say that she is not performing knowing full well that she will once they get a deal in place. From what I’m hearing about plans for her performance, it would be an epic performance. But, again, without knowing anything official … it’s just more rumor in the wind. I would welcome any live awards show performance from our dear Britney … so I’m gonna keep my fingers and toes crossed that Britney will end up performing on the Grammy Awards next month. What do y’all think … will she or won’t she perform?

That rumor started when Britney or one of her reps contacted Perez Hilton stating that it’s a “done deal”. This rumor started because someone in Britney’s camp already heard the news that Lady Gaga was performing and I guess Britney and her reps felt they better get a jump on things. First performance dibs usually go to the artists who are in fact nominated for a Grammy. Britney is not a nominee this year. Lady Gaga has been working steadily and is among the nominees. There are plenty of nominees from which to choose who have been working steadily all year long. I doubt she will perform, given the lapse in her live performance schedule and this:

“GOD-ney”??? Whoever dreamt that up is sick and not in a good way. Britney needs to work herself up to Grammy-level performance; considering the fact that there are plenty of Major and Indie artists who could overthrow her in a heartbeat with a live Grammy performance-right now. This moment. Live.
Let’s face it – even just the suggestion that Britney will perform will bring big ratings so The Grammy folks are obviously going to capitalize on that.
I think this is why I get so happy when Britney herself is successful, because so many others have exploited her and made money off of her name.
I do hope she’ll do a performance though – it’s time!!

I think it would be huge cuz it’s a televise award show and Britney, being really honest, wasn’t in the best performance high on the ‘Circus Tour’, by the end she was WAY better but i think i wasn’t at her peak. So if her team is thinking that she can deal with a performance in an award show that is some great news. Also if she gonna do that, she needs to sing live.
unless shes 100% and is gunna bring it hard…i say stay away from the grammy’s. ‘hold it against me’ isnt a sing live kinda song, so she needs some serious dance moves…more then just dancing with her arms. so if she isnt ready for that..then i say just sit back until she is.

Um, Nunya, that “tranny” is nominated for some Grammys so it makes perfect sense that she would perform there. Try not to choke on your hate, there is plenty of room for multiple pop stars to be successful in this country. Feel free to celebrate your favorite, but especially with what our country is reeling from…is it really necessary to be so mean? (PS, I think Nicole doesn’t like Gaga and leans more towards Christina.)

I really HOPE she performs… Britney owes it to her fans. I mean, we always get her singles to #1 and buy her stuff instantly because we love her, BUT she needs to work hard for it. She has been seriously lacking on promotion ever since “In the Zone” was released and that was 6 years ago. Britney hasn’t performed at an award show for almost 3 years (4 years in August) and it’s time.

I’m not sure but I thought the condition to perform at the Grammys was to sing live, and because Britney loves to concentrate on her dance moves, she won’t sing live…
