More good news to pass along today … at least, I think. US Weekly is reporting that Reese Witherspoon and her boyfriend Jim Toth have gotten themselves engaged to be wed! As you may know, Reese and Jim have been dating for about a year since Reese broke up with Jake Gyllenhaal last year. I guess a year was all it took … ‘cuz apparently the couple are ready to say I Do!
Reese Witherspoon is ready to walk down the aisle again! She and Hollywood agent Jim Toth are engaged, her rep confirms exclusively to UsMagazine.com. “They are extremely happy,” the rep tells Us. The Oscar-winning actress, 34, began dating Toth, 40, around January 2010, shortly after her split from Jake Gyllenhaal. The duo went public with their romance in March during a romantic birthday weekend in Ojai, Calif. Toth works as an agent at L.A.’s Creative Artists Agency; Witherspoon is a CAA client, but Toth doesn’t represent her … Witherspoon joked about engagement talk to Entertainment Weekly recently. “My mom always texts me, like, ‘Are you getting married?’” Witherspoon said, laughing. “I’m like, ‘Mom, come on! You would know if I was getting married.’” A pal says of Witherspoon’s romance with Toth: “She is definitely happy, in love and definitely wants to settle down.”
While all of this sounds like good news … let’s be clear here … Reese‘s rep never actually used the word “engaged”. US Weekly seems pretty confident that their engagement report is true so I suppose we can give them the benefit of the doubt … but “they are extremely happy” does not equal necessarily “they are engaged to be married”. While I would LOVE to see Reese happily settled into marriage again if that is what she really wants, I can’t help but think that this engagement seems awfully rushed. Still … if true, I wish them all the happiness in the world on a long and very happy marriage. What do y’all think … is it too soon for Reese and Jim to get married? Do you believe that they are engaged at all?

While I usually take US Weekly’s reports with a grain of salt, People magazine confirmed the news. People usually won’t report on something until it’s been 100% confirmed, so I think it’s true.
Jakey-Poo must be crushed. I just hope he doesn’t do anything drastic with his new coffee buddy in retaliation… :(

Reese Witherspoon is an intelligent woman and knows what she wants. I think she takes nothing frivously so this must mean she is ready to make a commitment and have her two gorgeous kids share her life with Toth.
Oh man, after the whole Jessica Simpson/Nick Lachey retaliatory engagements (one of which was definitely rushed, imho!), I’m really, REALLY worried Jake is going to propose to Taylor Swift.

I don’t think it’s too soon at all..They’re both older and know what they want..I think it’s great! They’ve seemed like a really good match from day 1..I totally dig them and wish them nothing but the best!
nah Jake’s pretty level headed and mature about stuff. He’s not going to retaliate in anyway, especially by getting engaged to someone hes dated for 2 months.
A year is an OK amount of time to date someone and then get engaged. Y’all are funny. I totally doubt that Jake would get craaaazy a la Jessica Simpson oneupmanship engagements and go proposing to Taylor. Besides, haven’t seen them cafeining in awhile so maybe that has fizzled out already.

I think the people lamenting Reese’s not marrying Jake are wrong. He’s cute, but he’s not a grownup I sense he competed with Reese’s children for her attention. He wanted to be the favorite child. A mother can’t give in to that emotional blackmail. Toth gets on with her children and does not seem in competition with them. I sense that this critical difference is why Toth is in with Reese and Jake is out.
