Last night David and I FINALLY got to see the Emma Stone film Easy A, which came out in September, on On Demand. I had been really looking forward to seeing the film in theaters when it was released but, somehow, I never got around to seeing it … then it was gone from theaters and I had to wait for its release on DVD/On Demand. But last night I finally got to see why everyone seems to love the film so much.

Easy A is the iGeneration’s version of The Scarlett Letter. I loved pretty much everything about the film … the writing was great, the acting was superb and the message was pitch perfect. We live in an age where information spreads immediately … but not nearly as quickly as gossip does. I shudder to think what it must be like for kids these days to have to deal with the power of Facebook, cell phones and faceless commentary on the Internets. I was really impressed with Emma Stone‘s character in this film but I couldn’t help but think how difficult it must be for real kids in these real situations … kids who may not have the same force of will that this fictional character has. It’s clear to me why Emma‘s performance in Easy A generated so much buzz … and likely won her the lead female role in the new Spider-Man reboot. This film may be a teen flick but it’s more than that … it’s truly a perfect commentary on high school life these days … and the enduring power of gossip. I’m very glad to know that Emma Stone received a Golden Globe nomination for her work in this film … should she win, it’ll be well deserved.
Before we settled down for the movie, David and I had dinner at Night + Market on Sunset Blvd. If you are looking for authentic Thai street food, then Night + Market is the place for you:

I personally cannot attest to the authenticity but David can and he was very impressed with the food. I just loved every single thing we ordered because it all tasted so incredibly delicious! Thai is one of my favorite foods … and this place just shot to the top of my LA eatery list. We had a great meal … and already are planning ahead to our next visit.

I could’ve sworn you saw this movie right when it came out and posted a review on it where you talked about how charming Emma Stone was in the movie. I’m imagining things, I guess.
I loved Easy A when I saw it and went to buy it at Best Buy yesterday and it was sold out!
I agree about Easy A. It’s probably the best “teen movie” since Mean Girls. Emma Stone will be a star! And didn’t Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson steal every scene they were in? LOL
@Amanda G — I LOVED Tucci and Clarkson because they seemed like fun — yet totally improbable — parents. They were both great.
I just watched it this weekend too! I actually eneded up watching it two times. I think this is going to go into my favorites for sure. Kind of has that Mean Girls quality to it. Emma Stone was hilarious! She definately found a fan in me after this movie.
@Maddie J — “Kind of has that Mean Girls quality to it.” Yes, I thought the same thing. It’s really a well done film.
“I shudder to think what it must be like for kids these days to have to deal with the power of Facebook, cell phones and faceless commentary on the Internets.”
I wholeheartedly agree. High school was damaging enough without the internet.
I LOVED this movie! I seen it with my cousin on a girls night out date and we laughed so hard!! The part where Penn Badgely pretend chews on the log while dresses as a wood chuck made tears come out of my eyes. Cheer’s to Easy A and Emma Stone :)
I can’t judge the perf. myself cause I haven’t seen the film – but seriously the Golden Globes?! Seeing this years nominees (The Tourist is exhibit A) is laughable and clearly a failed attempt to gain viewers and interest.
Better yet i think this Foreign Hollywood Press people look at upcoming Nov/Dec flicks, throw in the nominees and draw them by hat or just choose what they think will be popular and great.
But yeah bunch of crap if you ask me – Screen Actors Guild is probably the most genuine cause its An Actors Guild and a proper film guild itself. It could be even more important/prestigious than an OScar cause its voted upon fellow actors. Halle Berry should be nominated this year personally as part of it though.
Mmm…..Hofbrau Hefeweizen
Although it’s not funny, it’s quite entertaining. Actually, this movie tells a teenager story. We can see a teenager have pressures on her.
