Miley Cyrus Inspires Sales Of Hallucinogenic Salvia Herb
Monkey See, Monkey Do

Last week we got our first look at video of 18-year old Miley Cyrus smoking a water bong and it was widely reported that she and her friends were smoking a legal-in-some-States hallucinogenic natural herb called Salvia. Over the weekend, Miley‘s father Billy Ray Cyrus tweeted his disapproval over his daughter’s actions. Today we learn from TMZ that sales of Salvia have shot up considerably since that Miley video was released … clearly, as a product spokesperson, Miley can still get her fans to buy the things she endorses:

Miley Cyrus is now the inadvertent celebrity endorser of salvia — because ever since that video of her smoking a bong full of it came out … we’re told sales of the herbal drug are sky high. According to people who deal, legally, in salvia divinorum … sales have increased since Friday — in some cases up to 3 times the usual tally. TMZ spoke with several head shops in the Los Angeles area and we’re told — not only have sales jumped — but many of the customers specifically asked for “the stuff Miley was smoking” … While Miley’s experimentation is generating curiosity in the hallucinogen — one smoke shop employee tells us, “Salvia is one of those things that you only try once because it is so intense.” Another impact of the Miley video — as we reported — is renewed discussion about banning salvia in California. It is already illegal in 15 states.

None of this should be at all surprising to anyone. While so many people are quick to condone Miley‘s actions as “legal” because she’s “an adult now”, it’s very obvious that she wields quite a bit of sway over not only her fans but pretty much anyone who’s ever heard her name. People see the video of Miley having a blast smoking this stuff and then they think, Hey, I wanna have a good time, too. It’s very true that Miley Cyrus is free to do whatever legal thing she wants but young kids are very smart … they hear a lot … especially when it comes to people they look up to and admire. It’d be a terrible shame if young kids, not old enough to smoke anything legally, got their hands on this stuff and ended up hurting themselves just because Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montanan did it first.

Over this already and not cause its Miley… BUT because A) She is 18. B) Who cares if it WAS Marijuana which is probably is. I think MORE than half the people at her age and younger do it – I did it, hung around people who did it and still do. There isn’t nothing wrong with it – I’d rather see her do that and have fun than get caught up in much more illicit drugs.
People need to lay off her, she clearly does this in a private matter not prancing on the streets like Paris or Lindsay showing their ugly messes.
She ain’t no role model and she dont need to be, celebs arent role models intentionally. Yeah they sometimes become one to their fans but it isnt there fault and they shouldn’t tread on egg shells because fans look up to them in such a way. Media is what they always will be and they blow things WAY outta proportion when they’re probably sitting at home with their bong or sniffing coke at some house party themselves.
I feel sorry for her, the fact she cops so much crap because of her father alone is enough to feel sorry for her. But because she started off as a teen star she instantly becomes a media target – the image thing ppl need to get over. I think being in the life she lives you grow to mature early and I dont believe she is some “child” even though she is 18. You’re instantly labelled immature with no talent at that age in the industry, quite honestly Miley is quite talented even though I aint a fan. All i can say is, get the faaaarck over it!

I am way more disturbed by that last picture….what is up with those teeth??

I’m still not buyin that it was salvia. Salvia makes you incoherrent and just out of it… I’m still thinkin that it was pot. And salvia is not harmless, so regardless of if it’s legal or not, it messes with your brain chemistry.
I don’t care what this trainwreck in the making does in her private life, but girl ought to have more sense than to let anyone film something like this.

Don’t become a celebrity if you don’t want to be a role model, especially one that got her start of the Disney channel.
Celebrities have had to give up their privacy for how long now? It’s nothing new.
You’d think some would smarten up, and know that if it’s caught on camera, it’s gonna get put out there.

i agree with sara… she got her start on disney while she may no longer be “hannah montana” she is still seen that way by many of her younger fans even though she’s doing everything she can to distance herself from that squeaky clean image these days. ie, smoking a substance, making out with girls on stage, pole dancing… etc. that fan base got her where she is now…. don’t bite off the hand that feeds you, kwim?

once again… salvia is way more hardcore than weed. if you’re doing salvia you need someone to watch you to make sure you don’t do something incredibly dangerous since it fucks you up so badly for a few minutes (very intense, very short trip).
it’s pretty sad that it’s better for her to say it was salvia (since it’s legal) if people are gonna copy her. honestly i’d way rather see young people (esp who are inexperienced with drugs) try weed, which is relatively harmless, than something as intense and even potentially dangerous as salvia.

I wish it would go back to the days when kid stars had a shelf life..by the time they did stupid adult things there career were already over..No Damage done to there little fans.

  8. JRad says:

Does this mean that if Miley Cyrus is seen reading the works of Bertrand Russell, John Locke or Voltaire, book sales will soar?

  9. ella says:

    @JRad
    lol!!

  10. Snorri says:

LOL @ “I want the stuff that Miley was smoking”

  11. k says:

Such normal teenage behavior. Wish she was smarter cause she is definitely a role model and this will without a doubt entice kids who would otherwise be reluctant to try salvia. It is not realistic to expect her to be any different than every other 18 year old. Just wish she was.

I was babysitting the other night and had E!News playing in the background while the girls’ ate dinner. This story about Miley came up and they looked at me as if someone had told them that Santa is fake. Although she may not intend to be a role model, she must acknowledge the fact that she is and act accordingly. Hell, I’m 17 and I party too, but I would never let the girls I babysit see me drink, even if we’re at a party at their house with their parents present. I’m not “of age” to drink, and I don’t want to give them the idea that it’s okay to drink alcohol when they’re underage. Call me a hypocrite or whatever, but atleast I acknowledge my role model status (even if I never set out to be one.)

    @ Mr,.Gyllenhaal – - Too funny…what is up with those teeth.

  14. Violet says:

Miley 18 going on 25!! She has no class, dresses way to mature for her age, talks like a horse, and is becoming a bad role model. Bad management, and parenting!!!

  15. muffyn says:

I do not see what the big deal is, Miley Cyrus is a teenager and teenagers do things like that. I watched this on the news and the Media is full of crap they say that she is suppose to be a role model. Well a real role model should be a parent of the child. Another news reporter said that her and her daughters watched this on you tube, why are you watching things like that on you tube with your child. Your just as bad as a role model as Miley then. For letting your children watch negative things. The media is about to ruin this girls life like they did other child hood star, Britney Spears, Ashley and Mary Kate Olsen, Lindsey Lohan and more. How about the presidents who smoked real pot, are they bad people, because if they are then why did they run this country. This is a shame parents do not look for these actors and actress and singers to be a role model for your children, because your suppose to be their real role model. Do your job as a parent. Because these famous folks are human just like us, they are just seen on television. God did not make them perfect just like he did not make us perfect either. Leave the girl alone…

  16. muffyn says:

Also if you teach your children right from wrong then you will not have to worry about them doing something they see other people do. TEACH YOUR CHILDREN HOW TO BE LEADERS NOT FOLLOWERS!!!!!!!!then they will not engage in monkey see monkey do…

  17. andrewsome says:

Hey someone is enjoying something, lets make it illegal. If we cant make everything pleasant illegal than what good are all those lawyers anyhow.I never tried it,don’t care to smoke anything. But those who dont want it should just say no.
