Food For Thought
The TV Guide

Altho my day started out shakily, I slowly but surely started to feel back to my normal self as the day wore on yesterday. I’m telling you, the rain that has been falling continuously for the past few days (and continues to fall today) hasn’t really helped me get over my illness but I am happy to report that — at last — I’m feeling better. For the past 2 weeks, I’ve been obsessed with The Lobsta Truck that pops up around LA because I’ve been craving one of their Lobsta Rolls ever since I saw them featured on the local news. Basically, they take mounds of fresh lobster and they pile it on a crispy toasted bun and drown the whole thing in butter. Even tho I wasn’t totally totally well yesterday morning, The Lobsta Truck came relatively close to my home and David — my hero — went out in the rain to get me a couple of Lobsta Rolls:

Ye gods … they were delicious! If you can believe it, there was a HUGE line of people standing in the rain, waiting for their chance to buy some grub … people, it’s that good. If you happen to see the Lobsta Truck in your neighborhood here in SoCal, you gotta try some of their eats. Click HERE to see their menu and click HERE to follow them on Twitter to find out where they are at any given time.

We spent the rest of the day inside … out of the rain. I watched a couple of movies and then stumbled upon Julie & Julia. As you may recall, I saw and LOVED the film when it was released last year … but this time, I was only interested in the parts of the movie that focused on Julia Child‘s life in France. I dunno, something about her story really spoke to me last night so I bought Julia Child‘s autobiography/memoir My Life in France on my Kindle and started reading it immediately:

Man, what a fantastic book. I’ve always been strangely fascinated with Julia Child and reading her words about her time in France is just … magical. I do not possess any familiarity of Paris, France to speak of but I have visited a few times … and even with my limited experience, I could absolutely envision many of the scenes that Julia describes in her book. I’m not a big reader of memoirs but I can already tell, My Life in France could quite possibly be one of my fave non-fiction books of all time. To be honest, I can’t wait to get back to reading the book … so I can magically transport myself to Paris in the 1950′s.

Oh and the more I hear about it, the more I am dying to taste Julia Child‘s recipe for bœuf bourguignon. If someone would like to make that for me, I’d be much obliged ;)

As I mentioned, it’s raining cats and dogs here in LA … and will continue to do so at least until Wednesday. I don’t love it but it’s a nice change of pace and IT AIN’T SNOW so … I’m happy. David and I are heading to Rob and Tam’s for a Holiday Potluck Dinner tonight. It’ll be nice to see people again … I’ve been holed up at home since I got back from Detroit. I’m anxious for conversation. Happy Sunday, y’all! Stay Warm/Dry/Healthy !!!

(laughs) I saw your tweet about those yesterday and my first thought at seeing the picture was ‘ewe’ but that is probably one of those ‘don’t judge a book by it’s cover’ things. That and it might just not have looked that appetizing cause I have never had actual lobster.

It’s good to hear you are feeling better! You need to start taking more vitamins so colds won’t be so attracted to you! I loved the movie Julie & Julia, and found both characters to be very interesting(though Julia held more of my interest). I’ve been meaning to check out that cookbook and research more on Julia but have a very short memory and always end up forgetting(laughs). Take care~

Being a Maine native (and still resident) whose family owns a Lobster restaurant I’m glad the “lobsta truck” is trying to be authentic although I have never heard of a lobster roll made with butter – usually just lobster meat mixed with mayo on a split hot dog roll! Also, most Mainers don’t say lobsta! ;)

@Kat — They do offer a mayo Lobster Roll, too … but I would always choose butter over mayo. Also, I think they went with the name Lobsta Truck because someone else already had the name Lobster Truck.

the correct “townie” spelling is LOBSTAH..but the dude that started this truck is not a New Englander so he gets a pass. and fancier restaurants in Boston have been poaching lobster in butter and serving them as rolls or sliders for a while now….

omg that looks absolutely amazing Trent! Now you’ve got me craving lobster! Hope you’re feeling better.

Buying a place on Horatio Street in 2011. After I do – next time you are in NYC I will gladly make you bœuf bourguignon.

Seriously– I live to cook for people.

Wow, your day sounded like mine re: Julia Child! I watche Julie & Julia while baking Christmas cookies, then found my mom’s old copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking to figure out beef b… I don’t know how to spell that. One day I’ll give it a shot. Downloaded My Life In France on the Kindle last night too – looking forward to reading it! :)

The next time you are in NYC you have to try the lobster roll at Luke’s Lobster in the East Village. So. Good.

That roll looks FANTASTIC!! I must try one. How much is that bad boy with all the lobster?? I am coming to LA next month and I am going on a hunt for it!

One of my favorite memoirs!! My mom is reading it now. :) I also HIGHLY recommend ‘As Always, Julia’, which contains letters back and forth b/w Julia and her friend Avis DeVoto. I am nearly finished with it, and have loved it!
