Happy news to pass along today … the event that many of us have been talking about FOR YEARS has finally taken place. Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales and his longtime ladylove Catherine Elizabeth Kate Middleton have FINALLY gotten themselves engaged to be married!!! I can’t even express how excited I am by this news. Ever since I started my blog back in 2004, I’ve been speculating, guessing, hoping, talking about the possibility that Prince Wills and Kate (who met in college back in 2001) might get married one day. And today … it finally happened … the British Royal Family have announced that Wills and Kate have gotten engaged to be man and wife:

The wait is over: Prince William and Kate Middleton, having been a couple on and off for eight years, are finally set to wed, they have announced. While no date has been revealed, it is thought the ceremony will be held in a few months and be the biggest since William’s mother, Diana, married Prince Charles. “Everyone is absolutely delighted. He has never had eyes for any other woman since Kate came on the scene,” says an old friend. “She is going to make a wonderful wife, a wonderful princess.” Both the future bride and groom are 28.
Apparently, Wills asked Kate to marry him last month … he even went thru the tradition of asking her father for her hand in marriage. You may recall that the photo of the couple featured above was snapped last month at a wedding of a friend of the couple … might that have been the catalyst for William to propose to Kate? Whatever the case may be, the couple are engaged and they will likely be married in the Spring of next year … how excited!! After the jump, read the full text of the official engagement announcement statement released by the British Royal Family …
The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton. The wedding will take place in the Spring or Summer of 2011, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course. Prince William and Miss Middleton became engaged in October during a private holiday in Kenya. Prince William has informed The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince William has also sought the permission of Miss Middleton’s father. Following the marriage, the couple will live in north Wales, where Prince William will continue to serve with the Royal Air Force.
What a happy day for the British Royal Family and, indeed, for the entire United Kingdom. Let’s send all our love and heartiest congratulations to the future King and Queen of England — the newly engaged Prince William and Princess-to-be Kate Middleton :)

FINALLY.
Good for them! I commend them for waiting until the time was right and forming a solid relationship. As we know marrying into a roya family is a strain, but they seem to have built a really solid foundation.
Could you imgaine being asked to marry a prince and knowing you are becoming English Royalty?!?!? That would be intense and pretty amazing!! Good for them…Diana would be proud.
@Mr. Gyllenhaal — I agree, I think Princess Diana would be very happy to see her son marry a woman like Kate. To think, for the past 9 years, Kate has undoubtedly been thinking about a day when she might not only marry a prince but become a queen one day … which is actually, the stuff of fairytales! I really love that the couple have been together for so long and have broken up a few times … which tells me that they are sure they want to spend the rest of their lives together.
Very exciting news!!!
Such a great couple. Can’t wait to see the wedding!
About f* time!!!! :D
This would only be interesting if he proposed to a dude… YAWN.
I really hope they don’t get married on July 30 – that’s MY wedding day and I want to be able to watch their wedding live!
Totally freaking happy, amazing and exciting news! I, too, have always waited for this announcement, despite the fact that I have an immense crush on Mister Wills. If he can’t be engaged to me, LOL, then I am really happy that it is Kate he is gonna marry!
Finally…in a sense that I was starting to feel sorry for them due to the constant nagging from the media. Still, while British, I don’t particularly care much. It’s kinda neat to have royalty in our country but they don’t impact our everyday lives at all. (not suggesting Diana didn’t.)
Why do they call her Kate with a K if her name is spelled with a C? Either way, I cannot wait for this wedding, I will be tuning in live for sure!! OMG, can you picture her dress?
Poor Nick Lachey! He announces he’s getting married, gets press for 2 minutes, then Jessica comes along and steals his thunder, and now Prince Harry is getting married stealing thunder from everyone! Poor Nick. Heh
OMG, did you guys see that Wills gave Kate Diana’s engagement ring? Kind of made me tear up a little bit. Makes me feel OLD, as I remember Charles and Diana’s wedding and watching it on TV. AND haha, i have a trip to London booked for this summer, let’s hope it coincides with the wedding. I’d DIE.. just DIE
@Kells-I just saw that. Very emotional to use Diana’s ring. I do not remember Charles and Diana’s wedding as I was a baby, but very sweet of William to use his mother’s ring.
That wedding is going to make Charles and Di’s look like a little chapel wedding in Vegas as far as media coverage is concerned. Although I was born days after that wedding, I still hear stories about the media frenzy that surrounded it
He has the gorgeous face of his mother….with the hair of his father. ugh! Anyway, congrats to them.
aw..he gave her his mama’s ring. so sweet.
congratulations to prince william & princess to be kate!!!!!!!!
