Lindsay Lohan Slips Out Of Rehab To Go Shopping
Retail Therapy

It’s been a few weeks since we’ve heard from or seen Lindsay Lohan out in public since she was ordered to spend the rest of the year in rehab at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, CA last month. But … she’s back. Lindsay managed to get leave from her rehab center so that she could do a bit of shopping with a friend … and she made a beeline to Forever 21. An intrepid fellow shopper managed to snap a photo of Lindsay engaging in her retail therapy this week (but has since removed the photo from Twitter) and RadarOnline has all the deets from her shopping excursion:

Lindsay Lohan got to indulge in a favorite pastime on Tuesday during a quick trip outside the walls of her rehab. The Mean Girls star headed to a nearby shopping center for some retail therapy, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively. Lohan, who is currently in treatment at the Betty Ford Center, went to Forever 21 in Palm Desert, California with an unidentified female. “Lindsay came in two days ago with another young woman. Lindsay kept to herself, but was friendly. Lindsay bought a leopard sweater, a lot of pajama bottoms, and a ton of socks,” the store manager Tiffany Bennett told RadarOnline.com. “Her choices were for leisure wear. Lindsay spent about $200 total and she paid for the items herself.” Lohan’s shopping companion also did some damage, buying up around $300 worth of merchandise. “We were surprised that Lindsay was so low key,” Bennett said. “The only thing she asked us to do was to hold some of the items at the front until she was finished picking things out.” According to Bennett, the actress “looks really, really good” and added that locals often spot her at Starbucks. “She goes to the Starbucks next door all the time.”

HMMM … I guess it’s a bit surprising that Lindsay has free reign to leave her rehab facility whenever she likes to go clothes shopping or to grab a cup of coffee. My first thought is how easy it would be for her to procure other … substances … on these little excursions away from the rehab center should she choose to indulge. Let’s hope that Lindsay is really taking her sobriety seriously and these little jaunts are just innocent fun and nothing nefarious or dangerous is going on. What do y’all think … is it a good idea for Lindsay Lohan to be running around outside of rehab whenever she likes?

Wasn’t it just last week that she was crying the blues about her worries over her stay in rehab leading to destitution?? Maybe she should look into getting help for a shopping addiction while she is at Betty Ford!!

  2. Janelle says:

Maybe there’s some special agreement with the rehab clinic – “make me look like I’m ‘working out’ my ‘problems’ and stay there, just to look good.”

  3. Jstar says:

I think it is a little too soon for her to be running around as if she is not in treatment…

My dad went to alcohol rehab many years ago. I remember him getting passes a few times, so I don’t think it’s unusual.

She is allowed to leave and now has a lot more freedom because she has been there for 30 days.
The Judge is forcing her to complete the program (90 days) and stay there past the new year so obviously there is progression.

I think it’s so odd how she’s in court-ordered rehab at this point, but is allowed to get out to shop. How is this punishment? I’m sorry, but I get the feeling that if she were a poor minority, she would not be allowed to take breaks from her punishment for committing serious crimes for this nonsense.

I’m curious to know if she is drug-tested upon her return and if she were to be found to have done anything, would the judge interfere in her punishment, or is it enough that she’s in rehab?

You’re an asshole for even asking. Yes. btw.

@Kyleigh that was hearsay. There is no video, no recording of her ever making such a complaint.

We rip on her when she’s bad and we rip on her when she’s good. I don’t see anything wrong with shopping. She could be doing many worse things with that $200. I say as long as she continues with rehab then okay take an afternoon to shop.

    • Trent Trent says:

@brittany — First, I’m not ripping her at all. Second, true shopping is not bad … what could potentially be bad is a drug addict in rehab trying to get help putting herself in situations where she might be tempted to undo all the good work she’s supposedly been doing.

Lindsay also went to the MAC store.
Some are speculating she’s having a rehab makeover.

I wonder if some kind of doctor or sponsor supervises her on these excursions… One of her friends could easily slip her a little something something from behind the Starbucks counter or in the parking lot.

I got a feeling her “friends” aren’t allowed anywhere around her and all her stuff gets checked once inside the center or held and searched. but I don’t like that it’s so early into her treatment and she’s allowed out. be there 6 months then allow her to be out once in a while or send someone out to get her things.

It’s actually very common for people in rehab to get passes once they’ve earned a bit of trust by doing well within the programs. And yes, sometimes relapses happen but that’s part of addiction. If you think about it, it doesn’t necessarily make sense to keep people locked away in rehab the entire time then just set them completely free. When you’re in rehab you’re completely removed from the real world and you need practice getting back into the real world and resisting the temptation to relapse. If someone does relapse on an outing, they’re still in rehab and it can be dealt with better.

  15. ella says:

I also think it’s kind of missing the point to ask about whether she’s being punished enough if she gets passes to go on outings sometimes. If she really is an addict, we need to be medically treating her, that’s the top priority IMO not punishment. This is a serious problem within the US – framing addiction as a crime that can be solved with punishment instead of a medical condition that needs medical treatment. I agree that if she was a poor minority she wouldn’t be treated this well, but that doesn’t mean she should be treated worse it means the poor minority should be treated better.

-i agree with dana on this one.
her stuff is more than likely searched when she gets back from these excursions

-also, remember when she was in “rehab” at promises or whatever in colorado? or circle lodge? something… she was out almost every day, and we saw her out almost every day.

-even if she is still going out, its a lottttt less. and i personally think thats a HUGE step.

    @ella AMEN to that!
