Back in July we got our FIRST LOOK at Jessica Simpson and her new (yet still married) boyfriend (and former NFLer) Eric Johnson making their public debut as a couple (despite the fact that the pair had been romantically involved since May) and today we learn that Jess and Eric have gotten themselves engaged to be married! Immediately after Jess and Eric went public with their lurve, Jessica has been sharing her affection for Eric with the world as much as possible (who could forget that smoochy photo of the pair on Twitter?). It would seem that the couple’s 6-month dalliance has really turned into something substantial … cuz they’re gettin’ hitched, y’all!

Sources confirm to UsMagazine.com that the singer, 30, became engaged to beau Eric Johnson on Thursday, just days after Us broke the news that her ex-husband, Nick Lachey, popped the question to Vanessa Minnillo, his love of nearly five years. Simpson and Lachey, 37, split in 2005, after three years of marriage. On Saturday, Simpson flashed a sizable ring on her left hand during an appearance at Dillard’s at Oak Park Mall in Kansas City. The Texas native began dating the former NFL player in May while he was estranged from his first wife, stylist Keri Johnson; their divorce was finalized five months later.
Yes, it is curious that first we learn that Jessica‘s ex-husband Nick Lachey got engaged to be married to his longtime girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo and then we learn that Jessica is newly engaged to Eric just a few days later. Now, I’m not saying that Jessica got engaged because Nick did (necessarily) but … well, the timing is just curious that’s all. I think this engagement has more to do with the fact that Eric finally got recently divorced from his wife than anything else. To be honest, this engagement seems a bit fast … where Nick and Vanessa had been dating for 5 years before deciding to get married, Jess and Eric have only been dating for a mere 6 months. Still, let’s sent our heartiest congratulations to Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson (Jericca? Erica?) on their happy news … and best of luck for a successful marriage.

Sooooo surprised!! I think Jessica Simpson falls into love, now marriage, too quickly. I do understand there are such thing as quick engagements, but I feel like with what she’s been through, she needs to take her time with her relationships. Maybe she’s in a rush to become a mother?? With all that, I laugh at the timing…. Very curious indeed.

I think the difference is that she dated nick for five years before she married him, because when she started dating him when she was, what, 17, 18? she’s 29 now, and even regular people seem to get married after faster courtships when they’re older…or at least that’s what I’ve seen happen around me, with my friends and acquaintances. when it’s right, you know. in my personal opinion, lachey and minnilo taking five years to get engaged is the more odd of the two.
now, do I think she should marry a guy whose divorce is one month old, who doesn’t seem to have any money? that I don’t know. but, hey, if she’s happy, good for her.

Jessica Simpson annoys me to the fullest. I wish she would disappear from the spotlight forever. I dont understand why she is always in the news, she does nothing! She had like, 1 album like 10 years ago, then failed at country music, failed at TV, failed at marriage, need I say more? This engagement is a freakin joke…. lets chalk another one up for the divorce statistics.

Marriage is pretty serious, so I think its a bit ridiculous to think she got engaged simply because she was jealous of Nick or had to one-up him. That’d be a bit ridiculous, even for her.

I think this is way too fast. I’ve been with my boyfriend for over a year, been his best friend for two and a half years and we’ve only JUST begun to discuss marriage (no proposal, just a vague discussion on wether we’d like to get married one day), and our friends keep telling us we’re going way too fast. 6 months? That’s the blink of an eye. I hope for her, she deserves to get lucky in love… I just think she needs to slow down.
