It appears that plans to remake the amazing 1994 film The Crow are still moving forward despite the fact that production has, seemingly, hit a few roadblocks. In November of last year we first learned that plans were in the works to remake The Crow and in February of this year we learned that production was due to begin filming over the Summer … since then, tho, there has been no word on the status of the film … until now. Today we learn from Bloody Disgusting that the lead role of Eric Draven/The Crow has been offered to, get this, Marky Mark Wahlberg!

Bloody Disgusting has confirmed exclusively that Mark Wahlberg was offered the lead role in Relativity Media’s The Crow, a remake of the 1994 film that starred Brandon Lee as a man (Eric Draven) brutally murdered that comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée’s murder. The film was an adaptation of James O’Barr’s incredible comic series. Iconic musician and acclaimed screenwriter Nick Cave has been working on a rewrite with Stephen Norrington (Blade, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen ) attached to direct. The new tale is said to take place in Detroit. Now, the offer has been made, therefore Wahlberg could (and hopefully will) decline. I can’t say this news has me swimming in excitement.
UGH … as if the thought of a Crow remake didn’t worry me before, this news really worries me now. Nothing against Marky Mark but he doesn’t strike me as the right kind of actor to play the part. I am encouraged, I must confess, by the news that Nick Cave is working on the script … and really pleased that the movie will be set in Detroit, MI (as it should) but the fact that they offered the part to Marky Mark just … worries me. Now, just because he was offered the role doesn’t mean he’ll take it. Let’s hope that if this Crow remake has to get made that they find the right man to play the part … someone like Ryan Gosling?

hmmm, while i dont think the crow should be on the remake list, and i should add that i love marky mark, but im not feeling him as Eric. Maybe Joe Manganiello?
@ausettofegypt — “Maybe Joe Manganiello?” OOOOOH yes! He’d make a great Eric Draven, too.
No, no, no! Mark Wahlberg cannot play this part! That would be awful!!! I hate his acting!
“say hello to your mother for me”
I agree!!! Are there any Lee’s left to take over? :( Marky Mark strikes me as too buff and not right for this remake. You also need someone lanky and tall for this one…HMMMM
why cant they just leave original films alone for :(
OMG Trent! Ryan Gosling would be perfect! Or… remember Stuart Townsend in Queen of the Damned? he looked a lot like Brandon Lee in that movie.
this is a very bad idea he is not right for this part at all.he is to old and does not have the right appearance.i can’t think of anyone who could play this part as brandon lee was just so perfect as eric draven. it would be very difficult to be able to match his performance.i think it should go to someone who is unknown or not really that famous.i really hope they don’t mess this remake up as there are so many things they could do wrong.i wonder who they will cast as shelly and sarah.R.I.P brandon and bruce lee
Couldn’t be any worse than the straight to DVD version with Edward Furlong, right?
Mark Wahlberg DOES talk to animals ;-)
while I definitely don’t want to see my favorite film remade, I think either taylor kitsch or tom pelphrey would be a good choice…both relatively unknown and totally have the eric draven look
ian somerhalder comes to mind too… not that he’s perfect for the part but he definitely has the sexy factor
Oh no! I love-LURVE Marky Mark, but please please do not remake this amazing movie. Let it stand as the incredible testament to Brandon Lee that it is. The very idea of a remake makes me want to cry. NO, NO to ever remaking this movie.
Alot of good ideas for the role of “Eric Draven” however he is (was- RIP) a one-of-a-kind! Just please don’t let the role be offered to Robert Pattinson or Taylor Lautner GOODNESS NOOOOOOOOO!
My Suggestions:
#1 Pick- Billy Martin (of Good Charlotte) :)
#2 pick- Bryan “Synyster Gates” Haner (Avenged Sevenfold)
Jeff Hardy (wrestler)
Matt Hardy (wrestler)
mark wahlberg can act, but this is just not a good fit for him or the movie. is it really necessary to remake this classic?
