Over the weekend we learned the happy news that singer Céline Dion and her hubby René Angélil became the parents of a pair of healthy twin baby boys and just yesterday we learned that Céline and René were able to take their new sons home with them. Today we learn that Céline has finally settled on what to name her children … which was no small task apparently. Céline‘s baby name list included 15,000 names … but in the end, she settled on Nelson and Eddy:

Five days after their arrival, Celine Dion has finally settled on names for her twin boys. The singer, who said earlier this week that she’d considered ‘nearly 15,000 names and nothing has stuck’, has called the newborns Nelson and Eddy. Celine and husband René Angelil took inspiration from Nelson Mandela, whom the 42-year-old met in 2008 while on tour in South Africa. ‘René said that in just the few minutes they were able to spend with him, they were impressed by the human being he is,’ a spokesperson for the couple said. Eddy is named after Eddy Marnay, who produced the singer’s first five records. ‘He was like a father to her,’ the spokesperson adds. ‘Eddy is a major influence in both Céline and René’s lives.’ Celine told French magazine Gala that the couple’s 9-year-old son René-Charles had a say in the decision. ‘Because René-Charles goes to school in the United States, he’s suggested English first names,’ she says. ‘My mother, on the other hand, has been hinting about very French first names and we’re going a little bit crazy trying to decide’ … Celine gave birth to the fraternal twins on Saturday at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. The couple had been trying to conceive for years and underwent six attempts at IVF in 12 months.
Well, at least the names individually are nice and normal … that’s good. But together, Nelson and Eddy sounds like a one-hit wonder pop group from the early 90s. Still … I couldn’t be happier for Céline and René. It was very clear how badly they wanted to have another child … and now they have two new babies. I can’t wait to see what little Nelson and Eddy look like :D

im sorry…. she couldnt do better out of that many names than nelson and eddy??? those are terrible names
Wow. Very happy for Céline but awful names. Sound like a couple of 80-year olds. But then, she did name the first Rene-Charles…
Well, at least they chose names which have a real personal meaning for them and refer to real people, as opposed to just names they found “pretty”, I suppose, but still… ugh!
I’m going to have to agree with the other comments…
My dogs have nicer names than that.
Not a fan of nicknames for first names: Eddy. I would have chosen Edward and then just called him Eddy.
And I don’t think Nelson really goes with the rest of their family names….something classic like William or Henry was what I was expecting.
Everyone has their own reasonings :)
Nelson Eddy was an movie star back in the 30s & 40s. It seems strange that they would pic those names.
Nelson Eddy was also famously known as an opera singing Mountie which is ironic as Celine is Canadian.
He sang “When I’m calling you” with Jeanette McDonald, I believe. TeeHee!
hahahahaha I worked as a farm worker at a historical village this past summer and the two boy sheep there were named Nelson and Edward or “Eddy” for short! LOL!! I don’t think that her boys will be as awesome as their furry namesakes though :D Those sheep were way too cool!
@ AM, that’s the first thing I thought of…Nelson Eddy the singer.
