Wyclef Jean Performs A Song Titled ‘If I Was President’
Proves to the world he is not ready to be President of Haiti

Last month we learned that singer/songwriter Wyclef Jean will NOT be able to run for the office of president in the nation of Haiti due to his inability to satisfy the requirements needed by any person running for the office in Haiti. As a result of his exclusion from the race, Jean has decided to fight on in any way possible in order to be allowed to run for the office of Haitian president. Additionally, tho, over the weekend Wyclef Jean used his day job as a musical performer to try and show the world that he is worthy of the office of the Haitian presidency by signing about it. Unfortunately, Jean‘s attempt to sing his case has only proved without a shadow of a doubt that he is NOT worthy of the office of any presidency … read on to find out why:

Wyclef Jean has publicly called out actor Sean Penn and ex-Fugees bandmate Pras after they both spoke out against him during his run for the Haitian presidency this summer. The rapper seems to be fuming with Sean, but still has love for his old friend, Pras. He told Hot 97: “If I was president, I got a message for Sean Penn; maybe he hasn’t seen me in Haiti because he was too busy sniffing cocaine. I got a message for Pras as well, even though you don’t want to support me, I got love for you, even though you only kicked 8 bars for The Fugees.” Penn told CNN last month: “This is somebody who’s going to receive an enormous amount of support from the United States, and I have to say I’m very suspicious of it, simply because he, as an ambassador at large, has been virtually silent. For those of us in Haiti, he has been a non-presence.” Pras has come out in support of Michel Martelly, who announced his bid for the Presidency on Thursday. “I have no qualifications for president; I have qualifications for a leader,” Pras told CBS “The reason why I even entertain this idea is education, job creation, agriculture, bringing security into the country.” “He’s (Martelly) more popular in Haiti than Wyclef.”

I mean … yeah … if we needed any more proof that Wyclef Jean is not qualified to be president of anything, it would be THIS outrageous performance on stage at the Hot 97 On Da Reggae Tip concert. To publicly accuse Sean Penn of “sniffing cocaine” merely because he criticized Jean‘s qualifications as a presidential candidate just proves that Penn is absolutely right. Wyclef Jean isn’t qualified to be president of the PTA, let alone an entire nation. After the jump, check out video of Wyclef‘s performance of his song If I Was President to hear the man hammer a nail into the coffin of his failed presidency bid …

I’ve always contended that Wyclef Jean‘s heart was in the right place, that his love for his country was strong … now I’m not so sure. I cannot understand how a man who claims to know what is right in order to lead a nation he claims to love thinks it is OK to make such childish and outlandish accusations about his detractors. The man is a clown, plain and simple. Let him sing his silly songs to his heart’s content, leave the serious work of political leadership to other more qualified and mature people.

WOW. Just wow. He’s really getting under my skin. Is it just me or does anyone else think he needs to get “Baby Kanye” tattooed on his forehead. What an ass.

  2. Val 2.0 says:

His heart is in the right place, but his head is up his ass.

  3. Diana says:

LOL agree with both comments above

  4. Roze says:

If Obama had said anything about anyone sniffing coke, there’d be an outrage! haha good luck, Wyclef!

  5. Amy says:

That is so disrespectful of him to insinuate that Sean Penn was off somewhere “sniffing coke”. Sean Penn has gained a great deal of respect from me the past few years due to his many efforts to provide aid for people who suffer through these devestating disasters. I mean the man was down in New Orleans in a small boat rescuing people and I am sure he was down in Haiti pulling people out of the rubble or helping in anyway possible. If anything he didn’t see Wyclef because he was too busy helping in the trenches so to speak.

  6. Suz says:

Sean Penn essentially gave up his life to move to Haiti, live in a tent, and volunteer 24/7 to help after the disaster and he’s still there helping. Hard to believe Wyclef would ever do that. He sounds like a total moron.

hey trent this song is actually old he penned it a while back back in 2004 on his album “Welcome to Haiti Creole 101″. he’s remixed it a little to fit his ambitions for president but it’s it’s old.

  8. Nala says:

Sean Penn has been sleeping in hotels and eating 5 course meals while people around him are starving. I have been to Haiti and believe me Sean Penn is NOT living in a tent and volunteering 24/7

@Nala — To be honest, any discussion of Sean Penn is completely irrelevant. This whole embarrassing mess is about Wyclef Jean’s complete lack of qualifications to be President of Haiti.

  9. amber says:

trent i didn’t mean it that way, i was just saying he was reusing the song for his own ambitions sorry it didn’t come across that way !

  12. Suz says:

This song is in direct response to criticism from Sean Penn and Pras, which is why it’s relevant.

For anyone who’s interested, please read the enlightening and inspirational story in Vanity Fair called “Welcome to Camp Penn.”

    Information rocks.

    • Trent Trent says:

@Suz — Are you implying that Wyclef is justified in claiming that Sean Penn “sniffs cocaine” just because Penn criticized Jean’s presidential campaign? If Sean Penn were running for president then, yes, his actions would be relevant … but he is not, so they are not. Again, Wyclef as a politician is a joke and the people of Haiti are lucky that he is ineligible to run for the office of president.

  13. maribella says:

@Nala – What does it matter where Sean Penn sleeps? I’m sure he pays the expenses out of his own pocket. Not sure the same can be said for Wyclef after his whole Haiti charity mess.
