Jennifer Lopez Officially Signs On As A Judge On ‘American Idol’
According to TMZ

As soon as Ellen DeGeneres announced that she is leaving American Idol as a judge, we heard that Jennifer Lopez would be joining the show in her place. Then we heard that due to her “diva demands”, J. Lo would NOT be joining AI as a judge. Today, according to TMZ, we learn that Jennifer has officially signed on the dotted line and WILL join American Idol as a judge … read on:

TMZ has confirmed … Jennifer Lopez has signed a 1-year deal with “American Idol” for “a little more than $12 million” — this according to sources connected with the show. It’s somewhat surprising that the deal is only for one year … given the nature of the “A.I.” franchise. Nonetheless, it is a done deal and Jennifer Lopez is expected to be at the judges’ table for auditions next week.

Now, the folks at Fox would like us to believe that J. Lo was set to join AI all along but I don’t buy it. My guess is that negotiations stalled right around the time that Jennifer posted that tweet message that implied that she didn’t want the AI judging job anyway. My guess is that someone caved in the negotiations (J. Lo) which got the deal done. Now, last month we learned that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has also signed on as a new AI judge … but Fox as not yet confirmed that report. For that matter, they’ve yet to confirm J. Lo‘s signing as well. But considering TMZ‘s track record with these sorts of things, I’m willing to bet that they are right about this Idol casting. Now that it’s almost certain that Jennifer Lopez will judge the next season of American Idol, do YOU think it’s enough to get people watching the show again?

I’ll tune in just to see what she is like…. will she be the new “Simon” – all cruel and be-yotchy – or the new “Paula” – all encouraging and you-are-a-light-with-butterflies-esque?

  2. M3 says:

Really? Ugh, can’t handle the sound of her voice and laugh. Guess I’ll be recording the show and just fast forward everytime she opens her mouth.

  3. Mr. Gyllenhaal says:

Shit for 12 million for one year, I don’t think she cares if the show tanks or not! I have a feeling it might do well!

  4. Mariah says:

EPIC FAIL. No longer is “American Idol” the same show. It’s not going to feel or look or sound like American Idol anymore. Therefore, it’s not the same show…except for Miss Ryan Seacrest, of course ;)

  5. CHASE says:

DISLIKE! She has NO career left. Her movies have tanked and so has her music so what’s really left? Nothing.

  6. Amanda G says:

So basically they finally replaced Paula.

  7. Vic says:

It will be enough until it is not. This is AI’s last year. Lopez or Tyler cannot bring to the table what Simon did. Commence the downward spiral.

  8. kate says:

I think she can be ditsy and silly and might work in Paula’s chair – it’s just a matter of whether she can keep her divaness off camera.

But Steven Tyler is just whacked out nuts -. So if you mix Randy who’s a big blob of nothingness, JLo who plays the ditzy card, and Tyler who can’t shut up and loves himself – who’s the damned pro!

I have a really hard time imagining this panel developing any chemistry at all.

  9. Lisa says:

I am not excited for this new season, and I’ve watched from the beginning. As strange as Paula was, it seems like things have gone downhill since she left. And with Simon gone, it won’t ever be the same. No thanks! I like J. Lo overall but she will probably laugh after everything she says and be too bubbly for this show.

I’m definitely not going to be watching AI this season now that she is going to be on there. Yuck!

  12. nicole says:

i stop watching after Daughtry got screwed. but i might check in just to see how she does

  13. taylor says:

I’ll tune in just to check out the new judges. I don’t think I’ll watch more than a week or two tops. IMO the Jessica Simpson would have been a better pick than JLO.

  14. Audrey says:

If they had picked her husband–an actual singer–then maybe I’d have watched. JLo doesn’t bring much to the table as far as singing goes…and it’s a singing competition. She’ll use it as a springboard to try & jumpstart her stalled career. Massive fail!

i’ve seen her on american idol, she comes off as a copy cat to all the previous judges, no originality whatsoever & those crocodile/fake tears during selection of top 24 was just too painful to watch. i used to believe Simon when he said american idol is about discovering talent, now with her in it, its more like a very bad & poorly written comedy drama series w/singing as just a side show
