Last month we learned that Rooney Mara has been cast in the coveted role as Lisbeth Salander in the US movie version of the hit Swedish book/film series The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and today we get our FIRST LOOK at Rooney in costume as Lisbeth on the Swedish set of Dragon Tattoo:

These first photos show the harsh hair and make-up required to turn sweet-faced Rooney Mara into the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (played so expertly in the Swedish film series by Noomi Rapace). After the jump, check out the first set photos from Dragon Tattoo …

This US version of the movie is being filmed in Sweden, where the story is set … and that is a good sign that director David Fincher is serious about staying as true as possible to the original source material. The hair and make-up look a’ight but it’s far too soon to make a judgment on Rooney as Lisbeth. I’m looking forward to seeing more from the set of the US version of Dragon Tattoo … but this first look is a very nice tease for what’s to come. What do y’all think … does Rooney Mara look enough like Lisbeth Salander to you in these photos?

She kind of looks like Salander, but the hair is awful. I just saw the second Swedish film and am kind of annoyed that they are remaking them. These films are quite good. Noomi Rapace was so awesome in these movies that I think she’ll be hard to match!
I still don’t understand why in the world they’re remaking a movie that already exists and is good. Just because people in America are too stupid to watch subtitles does not mean they should get their own dumbed down version of this movie.
They made a huge mistake casting her. Her lisp is so distracting and I’m not trying to be mean, either.
Somehow she looks like Noomi ( and I am not sure if thats a good thing). Why do they make a remake anway? Whats up with the US remakes of good “European” stuff anyways?
This annoys the crap out me, simply because they ALREADY MADE A MOVIE.
Why do we need an English version? Are people physically incapable of reading subtitles??
Meh, the thing about Noomi as Salander was that even tho she had such short hair and heavy goth makeup, she was still hot! this one just looks weird
LOL It’s a good thing that the majority above me must not be of Indian descent because they’re (Indians) constantly remaking American movies HORRIBLY. And they say that they’re not copying only because they throw a cheesy song/dance number or 2 in there. hehehehe As long as this American version is GOOD, if not better than the first, I don’t see the big deal. Some of my fave movies are in other languages but it’s nice not to have to watch and read at the same time sometimes ;)
She looks too innocent…
loved the real one will not go to see this one
Noomi Rapace OWNS this role. I wanted to puke when I found out that Hollywood would not bow down to the excellent and definitive version. (btw, Rapace, as the rest of the cast no doubt, speaks beautiful English). Count me out when this farce comes out–I’ll be first to get tickets to the real version interpretations of the series.
I JUST finished this book and LOVE it! Now I remember reading on here about the US making this into a movie. Now, I just realized that there’s an original Swedish movie? Whoa! I would love to see how this book comes to life on the big screen! I need to watch this movie…. and start reading the second book!
@Lisa L – you *must* see the original Sewdish films, they are fantastic. I’m actually looking forward to the US films, David Fincher is an phenomenal director – I trust him implicitly!
the thing about Noomi as Salander was that even tho she had such short hair and heavy goth makeup, she was still hot! this one just looks weird
Not everyone gets the chance to see forieghn films for some reason or other – Can’t even find them on DVD for sale or rent. Of course there’s reading about it somewhere, but that doesn’t always help, does it? So a lot of people will only EVER see it if it becomes a “Hollywood” remake.
Sorry, meant to type “foreign”. LOL
I had no idea who this girl was so just googled her and found her charity – faces of kibera. What an inspiration and such a refreshing change from the usual hollywood ‘brat pack’. I’m so bored with all the hollywood remakes at the moment, but I hope that this one does well as at least she might do something positive with her paycheck and not just snort it away!
I will only go see them because I am hot for Daniel Craig.
Noomi Rapace will be hard to beat, but I will keep an open mind! I just LOVED the movie :)
@Trent Thanks! Now, the hard part will be searching for the movie since every single Blockbuster and Hollywood Video in my area closed down! Maybe Netflix….
The original Swedish films are AMAZING. My fiance and I rented the first one and then went to see the second one in theaters the next day. I’m curious about these American versions!
They’re also remaking “Let the Right One In,” another fantastic Swedish movie. I think it’s because (a) people are too lazy to read subtitles and (b) the actors aren’t “pretty enough,” they’re too REAL, or some shit. Whatever the reason – it’s LAME. The originals are SO good.
