Saturday Night Live alum Amy Poehler will return to SNL later this month to host the 36th season premiere of the show … and she’s bringing Katy Perry and her California Gurls along as the musical guest. Entertainment Weekly broke the news yesterday that Amy has been signed on to return to host SNL when the new season premieres on September 25:
EW.com has learned that Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation) will host Saturday Night Live when the late-night comedy show returns to NBC on Sept. 25. Poehler, who was a member of the SNL troupe from 2001-2010, earned her fourth Emmy nomination this summer for playing Leslie Knope on Parks … SNL, which is about to begin its 36th year on NBC, will also add three featured players to the mix this season to help fill the void left by Will Forte. EW has confirmed they are actor/comedian Taran Killam, who’s appeared on Mad TV and How I Met Your Mother, Chicago-based comedians Paul Brittain and Vanessa Bayer, and newcomer Jay Pharoah, who has performed on BET’s “One Mic Stand.”
As soon as word came out that Poehler would be hosting the season premiere ep, Katy Perry posted a message on her official Twitter profile announcing that she would be appearing as the show’s musical guest:

I’m loving that Amy will be hosting I’m only Meh. about Katy Perry performing … but damn that California Gurls song is catchy. For the most part, recent seasons of Saturday Night Live have been kinda Meh. over all … but we can’t forget that amazingly funny ep last season when Betty White hosted the show. Here’s hoping Amy Poehler and the new cast of SNL can set a new standard of funny when the show returns on September 25 with its 36th season! Amy is fab … I think she will bring us a fantastic show, don’t you?

Amy is one of my all time favorite SNL castmembers. Also, LOVE parks and Rec! I feel the samsies about Katy Perry though…Meh. I’m
sure she’ll put on some cutsy performance covered in fruit. I’ll probably ffwd through it though….
i wish they actually got someone good to perform for the first episode.
Believe it or not, Katy Perry actually has one heck of a voice. I know because I have her old Christian music album that she did as a teen lol. It was more of a rock vibe & had some songs that were very vocally challenging. Why she does all this bubble gum pop fluff is beyond me. She is seriously short-changing her talent.
I have no rebuttal for Ke$ha though!
I really don’t like Katy’s voice. She pushes so hard on it, and comes off very shrill.
Katy Perry is such trash. She’s just a semi more talented version of Ke$ha, but only 10%. Srsly.

i dont understand what your beef with katy perry would be? She had the #1 hit of the summer (6 weeks #1) and her new single Teenage Dream is #1 as well. Why wouldn’t they open with the biggest pop star right now?
@Smoo – I don’t have “a beef” with anyone. I just don’t like 99.9% of Katy’s music. Ke$ha has had #1 songs before and I can’t stand her music either.
