‘American Idol’ Officially Announces Its Season 10 Judges
Steven Tyler is in! Jennifer Lopez is in! Randy Jackson is in!

Last month we learned that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler had signed on to judge the upcoming 10th season of American Idol on Fox. A couple of weeks ago, we learned that Jennifer Lopez had, too, signed on to judge the upcoming season of AI. Today, Fox made that news official when it revealed LIVE via online video stream the new judging panel for season 10 of American Idol which, very confusingly, still includes Randy Yo Dawg! Jackson:

Golden Globe-nominated actress, platinum-selling recording artist, movie producer and entrepreneur Jennifer Lopez and multiple Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Steven Tyler, the frontman of Aerosmith – the best-selling American rock band of all time – have joined AMERICAN IDOL as judges. Lopez and Tyler will join returning IDOL judge Randy Jackson for the 10th anniversary season, which premieres January 2011 on FOX. In addition, Jimmy Iovine, chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records, co-founder of Beats Audio and one of the world’s most successful and prolific music producers, will join AMERICAN IDOL as an in-house mentor. Throughout the season, IDOL will go behind-the-scenes to feature Iovine working with and lending his expertise to the contestants as they compete to become the next American Idol. As part of Universal Music Group’s long-term alliance with AMERICAN IDOL, Interscope Geffen A&M will market, promote and distribute albums globally from AMERICAN IDOL finalists and winning contestants across a broad array of retail and new media platforms. “For nine years I’ve enjoyed watching artists compete to get a meaningful chance to achieve their dreams,” said Lopez. “I know from my own experience how hard it is to succeed, and I’m looking forward to discovering and nurturing that spirit in the many AMERICAN IDOL contestants I look forward to meeting this year.” “I’ve been on tour for most of my life in a band with four guys who judge me every day. Sometimes it hurt, but it only made me stronger,” said Tyler. “I want to give everybody a little love before I decide who goes home heartbroken. If you don’t like what I say, don’t get mad, get better. I’m ready to bring some rock to this ‘roller’ coaster and show these kids if they have the dream, the talent and the drive, they will be the next American Idol.” “I can’t believe it’s been 10 years of the greatest show in the world,” said Jackson. “I am looking forward to this next season; we are going to knock it out of the park. Season 10 is going to be hot!” “We are all thrilled to have Interscope Geffen A&M now be the distributor for AMERICAN IDOL’s music,” said Iovine. “I’m looking forward to working as a mentor on the show, where I’ll work with the talent to help them develop and grow week to week. This will also give the audience a deeper look into the artists’ abilities and give viewers more insight when making their choices.” “Our 10th season begins with a completely invigorated panel of judges with Jennifer and Steven joining Randy. This is combined with the world’s most successful and brilliant music executive, Jimmy Iovine, becoming the contestants’ special mentor,” explains series creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. “AMERICAN IDOL in 2011 promises plenty of surprises and positive changes, and we look forward to continuing to innovate and lead the way for others to follow.”

I have to say, as a non-watcher of the show, official news of this casting does nothing to make me want to start watching the show. This seems like such a mismatched group of folks … I just don’t get it. But, Fox is really counting on this casting to help revive the once hugely popular show. After the jump, check out video from the live stream announcement that took place online just moments ago …

Nope … none of this is at all interesting or intriguing to me. What do you American Idol fans think? We’ve heard the rumors of this casting for weeks … now that it is official, are you excited for the new season of AI to begin?

Uhhhhhh, Yeah. Good luck with that.

  4. Lisa says:

Meh. I think I’m done with this show since Simon and Paula are both gone. They were entertaining, and Simon knew what he was talking about. I stuck it out last season since he was still there. It’s time for this show to wrap it up.

  5. Amanda G says:

Steven, you are too good for that show!

  6. CHASE says:

    This cast fucking sucks.

  7. Jim says:

Revive? I mean, I don’t watch the show, but realistically, doesn’t this show still top the Tues/Wed ratings? I remember it was a big deal last season it happened like twice that it didn’t take the ratings. This show isn’t (well… Shouldn’t) be about the judges as much as the talent.

  8. Djoyful says:

What does Jennifer Lopez even know about music? I was an AI fan, but will not watch anymore.

  9. Sara says:

Definitely will NOT be watching… not that I’ve seen it at all since the first season! Sometimes shows just need to die already. :P

  10. Ella says:

It’s official. JLo has realized her time is over and now has nothing to do….so she’s doing this. So sad. What now Jenny from the block? Can’t make fun of Tyler cause the dude is old, has paid his dues, and is still a legend.

  11. Audrey says:

    JLo? Really?

  12. Jack Bauer says:

Let me start by saying that everyone of you made a comment that you cant stand the show or dont watch the show and that leaves me wondering what the hell you were even doing on this page in the first place? Obviously you follow enough to find out who the new judges are and comment on it within hours,.. Perhaps you are in the closet with your Idol Fetish, looks like a duck and quacks like a duck you know….

  13. Ashely says:

This is like the worst kept secret but hiring J.LO? Please give me a break. Maybe if she was judging acting but no one really see her as a singer. Then Steven Tyler?? I don’t know about him. Something weird is going on with him and the rest of Aerosmith. It like getting tom cruise after jumping on Oprah’s couch. The show is nothing without simon

  14. kokoy says:

Jlo can’t sing. Let’s just watch and see if she has an ear for music. Don’t judge her harshly because of her whole persona or something. She may be good judging and lifting the contestant’s spirits. As for steven, I respect himm he’s such a gem in music and I hope he could be good.I will still watch it with all honesty.

  15. Katherine says:

Steven Tyler?? JLO?? They are both so irrelevant and aren’t drunk enough (a la Paula) to even be worth watching.
JLO looks soooooo skinny though! holy crap, good for her!
