Sandra Bullock appeared on The Today Show earlier today in her first televised interview since all of the drama surrounding her scumbag of an ex-husband came to light. To mark the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Sandra sat down with Matt Lauer in her new hometown New Orleans to talk about a new school she is working with there … as well as the adoption of her precious baby boy Louis Bardo. Even after going through an arduous adoption and highly public divorce, Sandra Bullock says hardships like those happen for a reason. “I think everything works out the way the universe wants it to work out,” the Oscar winner, 46, says during a Today show interview [which aired] Tuesday. Furthermore, baby Louis seemed to have had a place in the Bullock family even before he arrived. “We don’t have any boys in our family. Boy, is everyone really happy about that. So he’s like the crown prince,” Bullock tells Matt Lauer during a sit-down interview in Louis’s hometown of New Orleans, where she marked the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. “It was just the hierarchy that needed to be broken.” Reflecting on the “long, long process” of officially adopting the baby – whom she calls her “little Cajun cookie” – Bullock says the now 7-month-old “was always mine. It wasn’t like I felt someone was going to take him away. But it was nice to have someone say, ‘I think you’re a fit parent.’ ” As for how she kept the adoption a secret, Bullock credits her friends and family who “are filled [with] massive amounts of integrity” and who, even when things get bad, are “still the same friends.” But after having suffered a betrayal, Bullock warns she won’t tolerate a backstabbing pal. As she quips, “They know if they screw up they’re not coming on the next vacation. I’m not going to babysit their kids. I will cut them. I will take them down.”

I mean, how can you look at that smile and not want to smile yourself. Despite the hardships she endured this year alone, I honestly think that Sandra is at the happiest point in her life. With that sleezy husband extricated from her life, Sandra can focus on raising her beautiful baby boy as well as her philanthropic work. She also knows that she can pick up her career at any point and move forward in any way she likes. I am so happy for Sandra. She is a classy lady, she deserves all the happiness in the world.
