Last night David and I decided to forgo all the craziness going on around town and stay in for a quite night on the couch … which, of course, meant a night at the movies! First up, I watched the 1984 film Red Dawn … then the 2003 film Party Monster … then the 1992 film Buffy the Vampire Slayer:

I had only seen Red Dawn once before but I had forgotten most of it … it tells the fictional tale of a Soviet/Cuban invasion of the USA and the first months of World War III. It stars Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Lea Thompson, Jennifer Grey and others as freedom fighter kids who fight back against the invading armies. It’s ridiculously cheesy but still a great movie. I remember seeing Party Monster (starring Seth Green and Macaulay Culkin) in the theater back in 2003. The film is outrageously fun … and while people mainly remember Macaulay performance, I have always been much more impressed with Seth‘s performance in the film. And the film soundtrack? OMG, it’s one of my faves of all time. I also saw Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the theater back in 1992 … I loved it then and I love it now. The world may know Sarah Michelle Geller as Buffy Summers but Kristy Swanson was the original Buffy and she kicked all kinds of ass in the original film. I don’t usually spend my Friday nights in front of the TV but last night was a fun exception.

Not sure what we’re doing tonight … there’s an Emmy party that we may attend but we’re still undecided. It’s such a nice day out, I think I’ll do something to enjoy it while I can. Happy Weekend, y’all!!

I absolutely love your site, I read it every day and many a times find myself using your coverage of Prop 8 for a friend in Canada married to a woman who’s job has taken her too California and the Canadian cannot go join her. It’s very sad. Anywho, I would love to submit a picture to you as you are a fan of Star Wars but I can’t seem to link to email from your website. If you could send me your email address for PNB it would be appreciated. Thanks very much, huge fan, Nicolle Irving Weir, Toronto, Ontario Canada

Oh, I was actually going to re-watch Clueless tonight but now I’m going to have to re-do the Buffy movie as well because it’s been so long since I’ve seen it. Heaven!

the pictures are on their way, thanks for the addy!

Paul Reubens had the greatest death scene I have ever seen in Buffy the Vampire Slayer!!! Yesterday was his birthday, too.

Hey trent, were u aware they’re remaking Red Dawn due for release this year? Chinese invasion instead however.
Well here’s hoping it gets released, especially with MGMs financial trouble and the fact they have cancelled the release of The Cabin in the Woods…. poor Joss Whedon! I mean, Piranha 3D turned out great, why can’t they release it!?

  6. dholmas says:

Showing my age I loved Red Dawn when it came out and looking forward to the remake. Hope they do a good job with it. Watched Buffy yesterday because nothing else was on. My husband thinks I am crazy. He watches old westerns and war movies. LOL.

Try working your way through AFI’s Best Movie lists. Or Ozu’s masterpieces, or Scorsese’s or Fellini’s. Just to mix it up a little.

  8. summercity says:

I second Brenda’s suggestion- try Dario Argento’s 70′s horror if you don’t want to do something ultra challenging but is still fun. (“Suspiria” is the classic, but I also like “bird with crystal plumage”.)

Well since I just spent a whole lot of time watching Buffy the series and seeing the episodes “The Body” and “Forever” there can be only one vampire slayer and she is Sarah Michelle Gellar, haha. I mean I liked the Buffy when I first saw it(I was like 6 or 7 so it was close to when Buffy first came on TV too) and I liked Swanson but SMG gave the character so much more.

  10. Nicolle Irving says:

Agree 100% @TK2121 – loved the movie when it came out, still love the campy’ness of it, but nothing compares to Buffy the series and SMG – still watch it at 6pm weekdays on our music channel in Canada cause I can’t help myself. I cut my hair like her, wore clothes like her when it was on and I am NOT disclosing how old I was when I did it. haha
