Lindsay Lohan Does ‘Vanity Fair’ Magazine
"I was irresponsible. And I'm not making excuses"

Back in July we learned that the then still-incarcerated Lindsay Lohan would be appearing on the cover and in the pages of the September issue of Vanity Fair magazine. Today we get our first look at L. Lo‘s coverphoto for VF mag (which has her lookin’ a bit like Grace Kelly) along with some excerpts from her coverstory interview … behold:

Her youth, her absent father and her own poor choice of role models led Lindsay Lohan astray, the actress admits in a revealing interview conducted last month, shortly before she began to serve her jail term and stint in treatment. “I was irresponsible. And I’m not making excuses,” Lohan says … quoting the 24-year-old from a new cover story in Vanity Fair. In what she now considers “scary and sad,” Lohan says part of her problem was that the tabloids were her single news source: “I would look up to those girls … the Britneys and whatever. And I would be like, I want to be like that.” Now, though, her clubbing days are over. “I see where that’s gotten me now,” she says, “and I don’t like it.” Not that she finds her past reputation as a party girl entirely deserved. “If I were the alcoholic everyone says I am,” she says, “then putting a [scram] bracelet on would have ended me up in detox, in the emergency room, because I would have had to come down from all the things that people say I’m taking and my father says I’m taking – so that says something, because I was fine.” As for drug use, “I’ve never abused prescription drugs. I never have – never in my life. I have no desire to. That’s not who I am,” she says. “I’ve admitted to the things that I’ve done – to, you know, dabbling in certain things and trying things ’cause I was young and curious and thought it was like, okay, ’cause other people were doing it and other people put it in front of me. And I see what happened in my life because of it.” Going to Los Angeles for her career in her late teens, Lohan, a Long Island native, says, “These were my college years … but they were in the public eye. I was irresponsible. I was experimenting. I was doing certain things that people do 10 times more of when they’re in college.” The problem, she surmises, was “I didn’t have any structure. In the beginning, I had structure, and then I lost all the structure in my life. I think a lot of it was because when I was doing my first slew of movies, it was very go-go, and I had a lot of responsibility, and I think just the second I didn’t have [structure] anymore – I was 18, 19 – with a ton of money.” Largely at fault for her rocky foundation, she says, is father Michael Lohan, who was not there for his family. “I think if anyone should be looked at medically it’s him,” says Lindsay. “He has such a big chemical imbalance at this point because of all the things he’s done to himself. … The worst part of it is you turn around and you see your dad crying and normally you’d be, like, happy that your father’s there. But then he has to go and do an interview right after.” Moving ahead, she says, “I want my career back. I know that I’m a damn good actress, and it’s been my passion since I was a child, and I know that when I care about something, I put 100 percent and more into it. … I want the respect that I had when I was doing great movies. And if that takes not going out to a club at night, then so be it. It’s not fun anyway. I don’t care. It’s the same thing every time.”

See, here’s where I have a problem with this VF interview … Lindsay tries to lay out at the start that it was her “irresponsibility” that caused her downward spiral into jail … and then she makes excuses for every single thing in her life. I do not disagree that her parents are to blame for her dangerous behavior but it’s not her father’s fault alone. Her mother’s enabling ways will prove to destroy Lindsay if she let’s them, I believe that wholeheartedly. Her father may have not provided structure early in her life but her mother is the one causing the harm right now, at Lindsay‘s lowest point. I find it HUGELY comical that Lindsay is also blaming her current woes on the experimentation of her “college years”. LMAO!! That girl has never even seen the inside of a college classroom or even touched a college textbook and she’s happy to say, Oh I was just wild during my “college years” … and other people were worse. I’ve never heard anything so moronic in my life. Lindsay Lohan will NEVER get her life back until she stops giving bullshit answers in magazine interviews and STARTS TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR HER ACTIONS. I’m willing to give her the benefit of the doubt since this interview was conducted before she went to jail and rehab … I’m hoping and praying she has a bit more perspective, one that makes her realize that her problems are due to her poor choices and her total irresponsibility. I know that is a lot to ask for but, honestly, if Lindsay is going to save her own life … she’s going to have to take 100% responsibility for her own life.

After the jump, check out one of the photos from Lindsay‘s VF photospread which will be published in this issue of the magazine …

As usual, pretty pictures … but it’s the interview bits we’ve been given thus far that totally annoy me. Has she learned anything from her recent stints in jail and rehab? I’m afraid I’m not so sure.

The “college years” thing and the “ten times worse” parts made me chuckle too. I just graduated from college and amazingly neither me nor my friend have gotten DUIs, or been in rehab, or borrowed pants that have someone else’s coke in the pockets. That’s the difference LiLo.

  2. krib says:

I dont know, I actually thought the “college years” thing made sense- she’s doing alot of the same things college students do but they have the luxury of not being followed by paps. Not saying that some of those college students dont have chemical dependance issues…..

    • Trent Trent says:

@krib — But the big difference is that college kids are actually LEARNING and bettering themselves (for the most part). Lindsay was partying with unfettered irresponsibility. She’s just a moron for trying to make the connection. LOL.

  3. llrocks says:

What is she supposed to have learned ? She shouldn’t drink and drive and she hasn’t since 07.
She actually completed the program and maybe deserved the 30 days in jail that the prosecution was asking for and that was it.
The rehab part was crazy, she got out early and has a new Judge as the old one was too involved in the case.
She wasn’t treated fairly and her early release from rehab and the possibility that her formal probation can end on November 1st proves it.

  4. cmc says:

@krib I don’t see the connection either…yes, she is in the age group of college students, but most of the experimentation is part of the college atmosphere, IMO. I went to a serious school and had fun but not excessively…my friends that went to partying schools were totally out of control. She was out in the world. Her mistakes were her own, not a collective part of the college experience.

The whole father thing is ridiculous, too. Her daddy issues are pathetic compared to what some other people (myself included) have been through. You don’t see me or my siblings, who are all productive members of society, with abuse problems or criminal records. Granted I also didn’t have Dina Lohan as a mother.

Same old BS from the same old washed up actress!! I am so tired of LLO! I wish you had the Fortuna Video posted today for a good old laugh because that was the best thing she has ever done! “POP, BANG, WOW…FORTUNA”….priceless!

Brittany Spears is also to blame. I found this on PEOPLE in regards to her Vanity Fair article:

“In what she now considers ‘scary and sad,’ Lohan says part of her problem was that the tabloids were her single news source: ‘I would look up to those girls … the Britneys and whatever. And I would be like, I want to be like that.”‘

  8. nicole says:

i dunno, i get the college reference…maybe not the best example to use…but i get what she was getting at.

  9. nicole says:

@Kirby – she wasnt blaming britney at all. she was saying that, thats what she wanted to be like britney..and be like the other people she saw in the tabloids.

  10. Ama says:

I get the college reference, too. For many kids college is their first taste of independence. They are out from under Mom & Dad and they dabble in underage drinking, drugs (certainly more than marijuana). They don’t go to class…they party. Sure…some students still find time to go to class, but I can name more than a dozen students I know who took 6+ years to graduate because they were doing more partying than learning. I know some people who never graduated. I think the point Lindsay was trying to make is that people in the college-aged years party…they experiment. Lindsay just did so with (1) not even the benefit of a collegiate structure; (2) with a shit-load of money; and (3) never grew out of it. I hope she does get her stuff together, I really do. But I think she’s got a long road ahead of her.

  11. dach says:

Trent…..you couldn’t have said it any better. She needs to take responsibility for her actions. She is not a teen anymore. I can understand that her parents were not looking out for her overall, but the girl knows right from wrong. College analogy…..No!!!. I’m so sick of everyone making her father to be the main reason she has been going down this destructive path. I saw Dina in the interview with matt lauer…she is a piece of work. She wins frist place for enabling this behavior. I truly hope Lindsay did learn something whicle she was away…how brief it was.

  12. ALim says:

agree with the “college years” statement… i have hope for her cause she is a good actress…

  13. Vanessa says:

I WISH ALL FORMS OF MEDIA WOULD LEAVE THIS GIRL ALONE. I SAY GIRL, BECAUSE I DON’T BELIEVE SHE IS A WOMAN. STOP GIVING HER ATTENTION, STOP INTERVIEWING HER AND STOP WRITING ABOUT HER. LEAVE HER ALONE. EVEN IF SHE WANTS THE ATTENTION, DON’T GIVE IT TO HER. I CAN’T BELIEVE ALL THE CRAP THAT HAS COME OUT RECENTLY ON HER. IT’S DISGUSTING TO ME THAT OUR SOCIETY PUTS THE SPOTLIGHT ON THOSE WHO REALLY NEED IT DIMMED. YES, THEY ARE ALL ABOUT MONEY AND SHE IS AN EASY TARGET FOR THAT, BUT SERIOUSLY, THIS IS RIDICULOUS TO ME.

  14. isaiah edwards says:

i think lindsay will right back on top, thats whr shes been, and whr she belongs. fuck the tabloids all they do is say false shit to bring people down, and pick the most random pictures and say some bullshit about it then getting the real story from the source, which wud be lindsay, anyways she will back and better than ever, this has happen to most celebs, like (drew barrymore) (britney spears), and basically every celebs that actually matters and that has been making headlines for a long while, not these bullshit fake celebs with therebullshit fame like the bachlor lol

  15. C says:

@Ama Yeah, but the thing with Lindsay is she’s had freedom from a young age. She didn’t grow up under the same circumstances as other teenagers. It’s not like once she was at the ages of 17, 18, 19 she suddenly had her life to herself and wanted to rage out for finally having freedom… she’s had that all along. She didn’t have rules growing up like normal kids did, she had a very independent and privileged lifestyle. She hasn’t been told “no” since she was like 11 or 12. The college excuse is just that – an excuse. Wanting to experiment for finally being free of parental control doesn’t even apply to her. And it’s really silly if anyone thinks she didn’t drink or do drugs until she was at a college age. Come on. I’ve seen pics of her drinking at 14.

  16. hoezay says:

To the ppl that “write” this shit..

Are you doctors? Are you a judge? NO so stop diagnosing someone you don’t know.

As to the interview, maybe you can’t read she said what she went through is something someone in college go through which I will say that is true..trust me just because “someone” goes to college does not mean they don’t do wrong. Shit I know 20 ppl who are in college and do harder drugs and other sorts. So please find ur defense before you talk shit…

  17. Katherine says:

“college years” isn’t an excuse to DUI & drug additiction – it’s like excusing sexual harassment with “boys will be boys”. Ughhhh.
Why won’t the justice system deal fairly with these “celebrities”? I wish someone would do a study comparing celebrity sentances to normal people’s sentances for similar fact scenarios – just to highlight the injustice.

  18. Ama says:

Just to clarify I don’t think “college years” excuses her from consequences or punishments from the justice system. The justice system has treated Lindsay Lohan and other celebrities with kid gloves for years. If Lindsay were ANY ONE ELSE she would have BEEN in jail..probably multiple times for her blatant disregard for judicial orders. My only point was I understand her point that people at that age “experiment” etc. I understood the analogy that college students engage in reckless behavior and that her behavior was similar yet amplified.

  19. krissy says:

    What a LOAD of CRAP!
“’cause other people were doing it and other people put it in front of me. And I see what happened in my life because of it.”

    Excuses, excuses, excuses….
    You are an adult, honey!

  20. Rebeca says:

I kind of get the “college reference” and I’m all for giving people another chance but this girl IMO could care less about her career, she starts off with I was irresponsible..blah blah blah…then it’s excuse, excuse, excuse….the she say’s “I want my career back… … I want the respect that I had when I was doing great movies. And if that takes not going out to a club at night, then so be it. It’s not fun anyway. I don’t care. It’s the same thing every time.”…ok so why is it that as soon as she got out of rehab she was out at 1am?? going to the same places she went before rehab?? I’m not a celebrity so I don’t know but isn’t “Image everything” if u want us to buy it you gotta sell it and right now she isn’t “selling herself to me” IMO it seems like she’s going back to the same old same old….it’s going to take a lot for me to believe she’s changed….she needs to be more like Sandra & less like Paris!!!!
