HMMMMM … according to new reports that can’t seem to stay under-wraps until 2010 San Diego Comic Con next week, Mark Ruffalo may have gotten the part of Bruce Banner/The Hulk in the upcoming Joss Whedon-directed film The Avengers. As you may recall, there’s been a pretty public they said / he said back-and-forth between Marvel Comics and Edward Norton over the fact that he will NOT be cast as The Hulk in The Avengers and then a whole slew of names started to go around as to who might be cast in the Hulk role. Today we hear that Mark Ruffalo has been having “late-stage” talks with Marvel in order to secure the role:

We’re guessing that Marvel Studios was hoping to announce this at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 24th, but Deadline is reporting that the studio is in “late-stage discussions” with Mark Ruffalo to play The Incredible Hulk in The Avengers, scheduled to hit theaters on May 4, 2012. He would be replacing Edward Norton, who played Hulk in director Louis Leterrier’s The Incredible Hulk. Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and Norton both confirmed this week that he would not be returning for The Avengers.

Some have been saying that Ruffalo would be wrong for the part but I totally disagree. I think he would be a great choice for the role. He deffo has that unassuming look that Bruce Banner needs and after a CGI make-over, well, anyone can be the big, green Hulk. I wouldn’t say that Mark Ruffalo would be my first pick for the role but, than again, I can’t see how he would be a bad pick either. I’d be totally fine if he ended up getting the part. I wouldn’t expect any sort of confirmation from Marvel until Comic Con so … even now, we still don’t know who will play The Hulk in The Avengers.
