‘The Avengers’ Get Animated
"Avengers Assemble!"

While we may have to wait until 2012 to see the live action version of The Avengers on the big screen we will only have to wait a few months to see The Avengers in animated form on the small screen. A new animated series called The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will be debuting on Disney XD this Fall:

“The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” — Further aligning the strength of Marvel’s hugely popular characters and stories with the burgeoning Disney XD brand and global reach, an all-new animated series, “The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes,” will debut in fall 2010 on Disney XD and DisneyXD.com. Beginning with the “Iron Man” and “Incredible Hulk” movies in 2008, the release of “Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” follows Marvel’s overall “Avengers Assemble” strategy introducing the greatest heroes in the Marvel Universe through various content platforms, including the upcoming feature films “Iron Man 2″ in May of 2010, “Thor” in May of 2011 and “Captain America” in July of 2011, all building up to the Avengers theatrical film in 2012. Produced by Marvel Animation, the animated series features 52 episodes targeted at kids 9-14, starring Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, Giant Man and Wasp — who form the Avengers, a team assembled when no single hero’s powers can save the world. A 20-part “micro-series” that focuses on each hero’s backstory will roll out in fall 2010 on Disney XD, immediately followed by the series premiere on Disney XD in the U.S. and, shortly thereafter, around the world. Disney XD, the single largest distributor of Marvel content around the world, currently showcases approximately 20 hours of Marvel series (including “The Spectacular Spider-Man,” “Fantastic Four” and “Iron Man”) each week.

The animation for this Marvel Comics cartoon looks like it took a page from the DC Comics cartoon Batman: The Animated Series. To be honest, I like the bricky square look of the animation. I’m actually very surprised that Marvel hasn’t done more to bring their comic book titles to the small screen. I loved the X-Men animated series and have enjoyed the few straight-to-video animated movies based on Marvel characters. I don’t even know what channel the Disney Channel is on my cable box but I’ll deffo be searching it out to watch The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. After the jump, check out a video trailer for this new animated series …

This looks great … and it will be a nice way to tide ourselves over while we wait the 2 LONG YEARS until The Avengers hits movie theaters. I’m sold, are you?

There is a really cute version of the Marvel animated series called Super Hero Squad. My son loves anything with super heros and i’ve gotten into it too. I can’t wait to watch this!

Um, where is ANY female Avenger? It’s pathetic that the one they pick is the Wasp, literally a tiny woman that you can’t see on the screen. What about She-Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Tigra, Ms. Marvel, or my favorite Captain Marvel, who isn’t just female but also African American AND was once the leader of the Avengers herself. The movie looks like it is going to have one token female but is going to be an altogether “sausage-fest” of sexist male representation.

Anyone know the song playing in the background of the commercial?

@Ian, the extended clip does show Black widow as well.
but i will say this once… KNOW YOUR COMIC BOOK HISTORY. This is the ORIGINAL TEAM, Scarlet witch showed up in issue 4 as a member of Brotherhood of EVIL MUTANTS it was not until later that she Shifted sides.
AS for Tigra, Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, She-hulk, all of these are characters that were developed within the storyline. Tigra transformed from the Character the Cat,
Ms. Marvel is a derivative of Captain Marvel(the male), The Female Captain Marvel got her powers from Dr. Light., and She-hulk, DUH derivative…
They can all make appearances later, but let the Story start!
