Woot!! Great news to pass along today … Glee creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that a Britney Spears episode of Glee is in the works. As you may recall, fans started a push to have Glee devote an entire episode to the music of Britney Spears after the show aired their all Madonna episode this past season. Murphy reveals that he is in the process now of writing the ep, which should be included in the show’s second season:
While there’s no word if the pop princess herself will appear on the hit show, “Glee” creator/writer Ryan Murphy tells ET that the show is currently in the middle of writing a Spears episode. The hit show, earning 19 Emmy noms Thursday, will also air a big tribute episode after next year’s Super Bowl, but Murphy didn’t reveal which star it will be based on, only hinting that we were “close” by guessing Michael Jackson.
Yay!! As much as I loved the all-Madonna ep of Glee (and the fun promo press that came along with it), I am really excited for this CONFIRMED all-Britney episode. It makes total sense that Glee would want to devote an episode to Britney‘s fantastic pop music catalog of songs and I would bet very good money that they will get Britney to appear on the show. Everything about this idea just screams of ratings gold! I didn’t want to get excited about rumors of a Britney ep on Glee until I heard something concrete … hearing the good news from Ryan Murphy himself is all I need. Which Britney songs do YOU want to hear featured on the show?

As much as I think a Britney-centric episode will be great I hope they start to steer away from single act-focused episodes. I felt the storyline of the second half of the season was so incongruous with all the jumping about!
I’m with Jo. I was watching a re-run a few weeks ago, the Ep where one of the characters throws a rock in her crush object’s car and does a number about it and it really made me yearn for the what made the series great–the characters, the numbers, the storylines. I confess to feeling increasingly crestfallen, not excited, as I hear about more big performers who are hitching their wagons to the show. Nothing against Katie Holmes but I found myself saying “aw hells no!” when I read a rumor about her appearing in a 5 episode arc. I loved the show when it was about high school outsiders struggling to eke out an existence in the vicious high school ecochain.

I am kind of more excited for this episode! I really want to hear songs like Toxic and Womanizer! Omg, the more I think about this the more stoked I get!!! What an honor…you know Britts is so happy!

I’d love to see Glee’s Britney sing one of the Britney songs. I know from an interview that she wants too, and can apparently sing too!
I don’t know if this would work. Britney’s tracks aren’t structured for singing and are dance-oriented, mixing songs. Not sure if it would work.

I love Britney but they need to start letting the storylines guide the songs again, not the songs guiding the storylines. All the eps before the hiatus were amazing. When they came back those 9 or so episodes at the end were just blah. Its not the same anymore.

Although I agree Glee needs to start focusing on the story more, an episode or two which is just CRAZY/MUSIC VIDEO/SPECTACULAR isn’t a bad thing. That being said, I hope the Britney episode has the best of BOTH =)
Songs I would choose would be:
+Baby one more time (come on! They’re in high School. Come on it’s PERFECT!)
+Womanizer (I totally see one of the girls singing this about Puck haha)
+I’m not a girl, not yet a woman (Rachel HAS to sing this!)
+Stronger (classic Brit anthem about girl power!)
+Everytime (you gotta admit this song is really a solid pop ballad about heartbreak, and written by Britney!)
+Slave 4 U (I see Santana singing this to attract some hot dude’s attention, like Puck’s)
+Piece of me (with a few of the lyrics changed, it would be an amazing song for them to sing to their competition at Sectionals or Regionals)
I”m a bi dude, but I have to admit Britney gets my gay and straight sides excited haha. Hope Lea Michelle (Rachel) with her amazing song gets to do honour to one of the Britney solos.
