First Look: Chris Evans As Captain America

Over the weekend we got to see some great new footage from upcoming films like The Avengers and Green Lantern unveiled at 2010 San Diego Comic-Con but right now we get to see a bit of a reveal from another upcoming film, Captain America: The First Avenger. As you may recall, early last month we got our first look at the official concept art for the Captain America uniform that will featured in the film but the folks at Marvel saved the first look at Chris Evans in costume as Capt. America for Comic-Con:

Marvel Studios brought more than was expected at San Diego Comic Con 2010 … “Captain America” started the panel with a footage introduced by producer Kevin Feige. Since they just started filming the movie earlier this month, there were not many scenes seen in the sneak peek. The snippet which features text narration about the story background, however, offers a look at Chris Evans as the titular character. Director Joe Johnston, and the film’s cast such as Evans and Hugo Weaving then joined Feige on the stage. They answered some questions from fans and the producer took a change to explain that Captain America suit seen in the footage was just a “test version of the suit.” Another footage from the film was brought forward, this time has more real scenes from the movie. It sees a scene where a group of Nazis tries to open a tomb in the center of a room before Red Skull arrives. As they manage to open the tomb, Red Skull takes a cube called Tesseract from the ancient skeleton and breaks it. He, apparently, looks for something more as he removes a small box coiled with golden serpents.

I understand the highlight of the Captain America footage shown at Comic-Con this weekend was the quick glimpse at Chris Evans in costume as the Capt. … which we get to check out right now. After the jump, get your first look at Evans as Captain America

Detroit Rock City
Demi Moore & Gerard Butler Do Karaoke In Detroit

Taking a break from filming their new films titled LOL and Machine Gun Preacher respectively, actors Demi Moore and Gerard Butler showed up at Rockstarz Karaoke Bar & Grill in Detroit, MI last week to do a bit of drinkin’ and singin’ with the fine folks in the Motor City. Here are a few photos of Demi and Gerard doing their thing on stage and some deets from the very fun-sounding night:

It must have been quite a surprise for the punters at Rockstarz Karaoke bar Detroit. There they were enjoying a drink and a sing-song when who should pop in but Demi Moore, Gerard Butler and Michelle Monaghan. The trio of stars were on a night off from filming in the city, although they are actually working on different sets, and soon took to the stage to entertain the clientele. Demi, 47, is in town to film LOL: Laugh out loud, alongside Miley Cyrus and Ashley Greene. Meanwhile Gerard and Michelle are filming biopic drama Machine Gun Preacher. The film is based on the life of Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing biker who found God and became a crusader for Sudanese children who had been forced into becoming soldiers. The stars wowed the crowd with their renditions of ACDC’s ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’ and Sheryl Crow’s ‘All I Wanna Do’ last week. Gerard even played fan and took pictures with his phone of Demi and Michelle as they sang. Demi and Gerard, 40, have been friends since they made a visit to Haiti together in April on behalf of Artists For Peace And Justice, a charity with which they are both affiliated.

Firstly, how much do I LOVE that all the celebs are showing up to film their new movies in my beloved Detroit, MI?! As y’all know, Scream 4 is filming in the Detroit Metropolitan Area and I know that Hugh Jackman was in town filming a movie of his own. Now we got Demi, Gerard, Ashley Greene and Miley Cyrus hanging out in Motown … what a great boost for the city that I love so much. I really love that there are so many movies being filmed in Detroit Rock City. I’m certain the fine folks at Rockstarz Karaoke were happy to welcome Demi and Gerard into their establishment … here’s hoping more celebs make their way to Detroit to film new movies. Who knows, maybe Detroit will become the new Hollywood ;)

Promo Tour
Angelina Jolie Brings ‘Salt’ To Russia, Her Kids To Japan

Angelina Jolie‘s new spy-action-thriller film Salt opened here in the US this weekend but Ange herself was not here to see it in theaters. She made her way to Moscow, Russia to attend the Russian premiere of the film with a few hundred Moscow fans. Here are a few photos of Angelina Jolie, in a stunning red dress, on the red carpet of last night’s Russian premiere of Salt:

Clad in a floor-length Versace gown she described as “Russian Red,” Jolie blew kisses to thousands of fans who came to watch her play a suspected Russian double agent in the blockbuster, which opened at No. 2 in the U.S. at $36.5 million (23.5 million pounds). “I think this film is positive for modern Russia,” a broadly smiling Jolie told Reuters television at her first ever premiere in Moscow. Earlier, she took four of her six children to see the gold onion domes and iconic red walls of the Kremlin. “As much as there are bad guys that are Russian, there are also heroes that are Russian in this film,” she said as her diamond stud earrings sparkled in the sunshine of Moscow’s record-setting heatwave. The film, which evokes Cold War suspicions, enjoyed a stroke of luck with its timing, coming shortly after 10 arrested Russian spies in the United States were swapped for four imprisoned Russians suspected of working for the West. Jolie has previously called the connection “bizarre,” but declined to comment on press rumours that she had invited glamorous redhead spy Anna Chapman to Sunday’s premiere … “It really makes me happy that we have returned to the theme of Russian spies in Hollywood films,” 23-year-old architect Alexander said after watching the film. On Sunday evening, the audience erupted into applause when Jolie’s eponymous character, CIA analyst Evelyn Salt, revealed her Russian identity on the big screen. The packed cinema also jubilantly howled when Jolie said “Good evening” in Russian ahead of unveiling the film. But her hours of Russian training, which she described as an “aggressive but soft and seductive” language, will be lost on Russian audiences as it was entirely dubbed for general release. Russian earnings of the film will not be known until it officially opens on July 29. “It just goes to show that Russians are the winners after all. I really thank Angelina for showing that,” film student Sasha, 19, told Reuters after the screening.

Some friends and I saw Salt last night and we all loved it entirely! The film is a lot of fun with a lot of surprises and, of course, Angelina Jolie kickin’ ass all over the place. I’ll have my full review up later but I can tell you right now, I loved it! It’s deffo a film that I heartily recommend.

Now, getting back on topic … while Angelina spent her weekend in Russia, she has already left the country to do Salt promo elsewhere in the world. Angelina and her four eldest children were photographed upon arrival in Narita, Japan this morning (which is actually tomorrow morning local time). After the jump, check out some photos of Angelina and her kiddies making their way thru the Narita Airport in Japan …

Another Con in the can
2010 San Diego Comic-Con Is Dunzo!

And so, another weekend at San Diego Comic-Con has come and gone and altho many of us were not in attendance at this year’s Con, I think it’s safe to say that we all benefited from the fun photos and valuable information that has been released at this year’s Con (most notably for me was the trailer for Dexter season 5). Annually I spend a bit of time thinking about making the trek down to San Diego to attend Comic-Con but annually, something comes up that keeps me from making it down. I have to say, tho, I do enjoy seeing the photos of fans that come from Comic-Con each year:

This is a fun batch of photos but I think props have to go to Booba Fett … I think she is my fave of this bunch of Comic-Con attendees. Tho, had I made my way to Comic-Con this year, I’d've dressed up in my amazing Dexter costume from Hallowe’en last year. I think I would’ve fit in nicely. Naturally, tho, the real draw at Comic-Con is being able to get up-close and personal with our fave celebs. After the jump, check out some photos of some of the celebs who made their way to Comic-Con to press the flesh with the rabid nerds and geeks …
