First Look!!!
Ryan Reynolds, As Green Lantern, Does ‘Entertainment Weekly’ Magazine

Back in May we got our first look at Ryan Reynolds on the Louisiana set of next year’s big screen adaptation of Green Lantern and today, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, we get our FIRST LOOK at Ryan in full costume as Green Lantern! Ryan graces the cover of this week’s issue of EW magazine which is devoted to previewing next weeks 2010 San Diego Comic Con … behold:

Fanboys of the world, get ready to go green. As all of Hollywood (and many a costumed nerd) gears up for next week’s Comic-Con convention in San Diego, EW provides a behind-the-scenes look at the making of next summer’s highly anticipated superhero movie Green Lantern. Ryan Reynolds stars as Hal Jordan, a cocky test pilot who becomes a ring-wearing intergalactic superhero in this massive sci-fi epic from director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale). Though Reynolds has prior experience in the superhero realm from his role as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, playing Green Lantern involved some major challenges, like getting hurled through the air on a wire at up to 60 feet per second to create the illusion of flight. “The first time you do it, you’re seriously considering an adult diaper,” Reynolds says. Still, he couldn’t resist the chance to play the beloved DC Comics hero, whose power ring can conjure virtually anything he can dream up. “Will and imagination are his superpowers,” Reynolds says. “We need a circus of Timothy Learys to think of things Hal would invent with his ring.”

It has previously been reported that in the film, Ryan‘s Green Lantern costume will be made entirely from CGI special effects. It looks as if the GL costume featured on this cover of EW mag is also a virtual costume (ie. CGIed). While I’m certain Green Lantern will look really cool in the film, I have to admit that he looks kinda cheesy on this magazine cover. To be honest, this looks a bit like fan art. Even still, I’m really excited for this film … and I can’t wait to see more. I’ll be picking up this issue of EW in the hopes that there will be a lot of very cool photos inside. What do y’all think of this first look at Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern? Are you impressed?

Lindsay Lohan Does German ‘GQ’ Magazine

Despite the fact that Lindsay Lohan has been found in violation of the probation sentence imposed on her for her 2007 DUI conviction and despite the fact that she will have to surrender herself to begin serving a 90 day jail sentence plus 90 day rehab sentence in just a few short days, L. Lo is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of German GQ magazine:

Yes, folks, Lindsay will be going to jail AND will be hittin’ newsstands all at the same time. I should clarify that this GQ photospread is the photoshoot she did here in SoCal last month (except back then, L. Lo tweeted the shoot was for German Vogue … either to mislead us or because she had no idea which magazine she was posing for). Those photos were shot for German Vogue magazine … photos that may hit newsstands while Lindsay is cooling her heels in jail. I’m telling you, if L. Lo is smart she will use her jail sentence as the springboard for turning her life around … I mean, I know it’s a long shot but in this life, anything is possible. After the jump, check out behind-the-scenes video from Lindsay‘s German GQ photoshoot …

Rumor has it ...
Will Mark Ruffalo Become The Hulk In ‘The Avengers’?

HMMMMM … according to new reports that can’t seem to stay under-wraps until 2010 San Diego Comic Con next week, Mark Ruffalo may have gotten the part of Bruce Banner/The Hulk in the upcoming Joss Whedon-directed film The Avengers. As you may recall, there’s been a pretty public they said / he said back-and-forth between Marvel Comics and Edward Norton over the fact that he will NOT be cast as The Hulk in The Avengers and then a whole slew of names started to go around as to who might be cast in the Hulk role. Today we hear that Mark Ruffalo has been having “late-stage” talks with Marvel in order to secure the role:

We’re guessing that Marvel Studios was hoping to announce this at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 24th, but Deadline is reporting that the studio is in “late-stage discussions” with Mark Ruffalo to play The Incredible Hulk in The Avengers, scheduled to hit theaters on May 4, 2012. He would be replacing Edward Norton, who played Hulk in director Louis Leterrier’s The Incredible Hulk. Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and Norton both confirmed this week that he would not be returning for The Avengers.

Some have been saying that Ruffalo would be wrong for the part but I totally disagree. I think he would be a great choice for the role. He deffo has that unassuming look that Bruce Banner needs and after a CGI make-over, well, anyone can be the big, green Hulk. I wouldn’t say that Mark Ruffalo would be my first pick for the role but, than again, I can’t see how he would be a bad pick either. I’d be totally fine if he ended up getting the part. I wouldn’t expect any sort of confirmation from Marvel until Comic Con so … even now, we still don’t know who will play The Hulk in The Avengers.

Becomes the first Latin American country to allow marriage equality!!
Argentina Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage!

It’s an amazingly happy day for marriage equality today as we learn that same-sex marriage has been legalized in the country of Argentina. This development is especially remarkable because Argentina becomes the first Latin American country (among a collective of countries that are heavily influenced by religious control) to legalize same-sex marriage. As I understand it, the constitution of Argentina requires the government to support Roman Catholicism economically but also ensures freedom freedom … in the end, the Argentine lawmakers did the right thing and voted 33 – 27 (with 3 abstentions) to bring marriage equality to their country!!!

Argentina legalized same-sex marriage Thursday, becoming the first country in Latin America to grant gays and lesbians all the legal rights, responsibilities and protections that marriage brings to heterosexual couples. After a marathon debate, 33 lawmakers voted in favor, 27 were against it and 3 abstained in Argentina’s Senate in a vote that ended after 4 a.m. Since the lower house already approved it, and President Cristina Fernandez is a strong supporter, it now becomes law as soon as it is published in the official bulletin. The law is sure to bring a wave of marriages by gays and lesbians who have increasingly found Buenos Aires to be more accepting than many other places in the region. The approval came despite a concerted campaign by the Roman Catholic Church and evangelical groups, which drew 60,000 people to march on Congress and urged parents in churches and schools to work against passage. Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio said “everyone loses” with gay marriage, and “children need to have the right to be raised and educated by a father and a mother.” Nine gay couples had already married in Argentina after persuading judges that the constitutional mandate of equality supports their marriage rights, but some of these marriages were later declared invalid. As the debate stretched on for nearly 16 hours, supporters and opponents of held rival vigils through the frigid night outside the Congress building in Buenos Aires … Sen. Norma Morandini, another member of the president’s party, compared the discrimination closeted gays face to the oppression imposed by Argentina’s dictators decades ago.

“What defines us is our humanity, and what runs against humanity is intolerance,” she said.

Same-sex civil unions have been legalized in Uruguay, Buenos Aires and some states in Mexico and Brazil. Mexico City has legalized gay marriage. Colombia’s Constitutional Court granted same-sex couples inheritance rights and allowed them to add their partners to health insurance plans. But Argentina now becomes the first country in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide, granting gays and lesbians all the same rights and responsibilities that heterosexuals have. These include many more rights than civil unions, including adopting children and inheriting wealth. Gay rights advocates said Argentina’s historic step adds momentum to similar efforts around the world. “Today’s historic vote shows how far Catholic Argentina has come, from dictatorship to true democratic values, and how far the freedom to marry movement has come, as twelve countries on four continents now embrace marriage equality,” said Evan Wolfson, who runs the U.S. Freedom to Marry lobby. He urged U.S. lawmakers to stand up “for the Constitution and all families here in the United States. America should lead, not lag, when it comes to treating everyone equally under the law.”

Coming from a Latin American family with strong religious convictions, I can’t even tell you how amazingly wonderful this news is. I sadly must admit that I was almost certain the religious control and influence of the lawmakers of Argentina would force them to vote against passage of the same-sex marriage law … I am thrilled beyond words that I was wrong. It just seems plainly clear to me that marriage equality should be made available to all citizens. Congratulations to the people of Argentina for getting work done that has yet to be accomplished here in the US … YOU, Argentina, have proven to be a leader in equal treatment for your citizens and I commend you all on this accomplishment. I just hope that the US will one day follow your lead! This deserves a Woot! y’all!! So, WOOOOT!
