The new guy won't work for free, The original lawyer can't quit just yet
Lindsay Lohan’s New Lawyer Is Out, Her Old Lawyer Is Back In

Yesterday we learned that Lindsay Lohan met up with a new lawyer named Stuart V. Goldberg over the weekend in the hopes of hiring him to represent her in her on-going legal troubles stemming from her 2007 DUI conviction. As you may recall, Lindsay was sentenced to spend 90 days in jail and 90 days in rehab for violating the terms of her DUI conviction probation and just 2 days later her lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley quit as her lawyer. This left Lindsay in need of a new lawyer. It turns out that the new guy didn’t work out because the matter of payment couldn’t be worked out … and because Lindsay is still lawyerless, Judge Marsha Revel has ordered that Holley MUST remain her lawyer until a new lawyer can be found:

From TMZ: TMZ has learned Lindsay Lohan’s new lawyer isn’t her new lawyer anymore … people connected with him say it’s because he wouldn’t work for free … but we’re hearing a very different story. Stuart V. Goldberg met with Lindsay, Dina and Ali on Friday night and it was a done deal, until he got a call over the weekend from Lindsay’s business manager, Lou Taylor, who said they just couldn’t afford him … this is all according to Goldberg’s camp. But on the Lindsay side, it’s a whole other story. Let’s just say that even Dina and Lindsay decided Goldberg was … how do we say it nicely … a little eccentric.

From Page Six: There’s more drama in the Lindsay Lohan camp. Her lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley — who quit following Tuesday’s hearing where Lohan was sentenced to 90 days in jail — has been told by Judge Marsha Revel that she cannot leave the case. A source told us, “The judge told Holley she can’t quit and leave Lindsay without representation. She has to stay on the case until Lindsay has a substitution of attorney filed with the court.” The source added Holley was frustrated with Lohan because “she won’t take or follow advice. She is not returning calls, and so they haven’t been able to set up meetings with her and a psychologist for her court-ordered psychiatric evaluation.” So unless Lindsay starts complying with Holley, or finds a new lawyer in the next few days, her chances of appealing her sentence look thin. A rep for Holley declined to comment.

OMG … why does NONE of this surprise me at all?! Lindsay‘s life is so full of drama … 24/7 … this back and forth with all the lawyers just seems par for the course. TMZ is also reporting that Lindsay is hoping to retain famed defense attorney Robert Shapiro as her new lawyer. You may know that Shapiro is the legal eagle who successfully got OJ Simpson acquitted of murdering his wife. I don’t know that Robert Shapiro takes on many nonpaying clients but he does strike me as a guy who likes a challenge … and it don’t get more broke AND challenging as Lindsay Lohan. We shall see. I bet Shawn Chapman Holley is PRAYING Shapiro or some other lawyer signs on as Lindsay‘s lawyer … something tells me she does not want to go back to court in front of Judge Revel on L. Lo‘s behalf.

Love in bloom
Photos From Emily Blunt & John Krasinski’s Wedding Have Surfaced

Yesterday we learned that actors Emily Blunt and John Krasinski got themselves married in a very quiet ceremony which took place in Como, Italy over the weekend at the Villa D’este (which kinda sounds like Villa Detest) and today we get to see a couple photos from their nuptials. Here are a couple photos of the bride and groom saying their I Dos to one another in front of family and close friends (which included George Clooney and others):

I know that a great many hearts were broken this weekend as news of these nuptials spread far and wide but I also know that while many ladies are mourning the loss of “what could’ve been” with John Krasinksi, those same ladies are very happy for his happy new life with Emily. A few months ago, I ran into John and Emily at the ArcLight Theater here in Hollywood, CA and they looked so happy and so in love. I am just so thrilled that they’ve gotten themselves hitched! They make a great couple and again, I’d like to send out lots of love and congrats on their new life together.

Flash some wedding bling on route to their honeymoon
Newlyweds Carrie Underwood & Mike Fisher Pass Thru LA

Yesterday we learned the happy news that singer Carrie Underwood and hockey player Mike Fisher got themselves hitched in Greensboro, GA over the weekend and today we get to see photos of the happy newlyweds as they made their way thru LAX Airport here in LA as they made their way to their honeymoon destination. A very happy Carrie seemed very shy about showing off her big wedding ring rock but she did flash it a few times:

No, we don’t know where the couple are headed for their honeymoon but the fact that they flew from Georgia to California on route should be a hint. It *looks* like they may be headed for Hawaii … but it’s just as likely that they are headed for New Zealand, Australia, Japan or any other destination in the area. Wherever they are headed, I hope the newlyweds have the time of their lives! These are the first days of their marriage … I sincerely hope they are full of love, fun and lots of baby-makin’ ;)

“He’s a free man”
Roman Polanski Will NOT Be Extradited To The US

Back in September of 2009, Roman Polanski was arrested in Switzerland stemming from a US 1978 conviction for statutory rape which he plead guilty to but never served the sentence for. After his conviction but before he turned himself over to the authorities to begin serving his sentence, Polanski fled the country and never once returned to the US for fear he would be held accountable for his crimes. After his arrest last year, a Swiss court has been overseeing the extradition request from the US to determine if they were going to comply with the order and hand Polanski over to the US for punishment. Today, the Swiss court made a decision … they decided not to comply with the extradition order and let Roman Polanski, convicted statutory rapist, remain free:

Switzerland will not extradite the film director Roman Polanski to the United States to face charges of unlawful sex with a minor because of a possible fault in the American application for his extradition, Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf told a news conference on Monday. “He’s a free man,” she said. Mr. Polanski was arrested on an international warrant issued by the United States on charges dating from 1977. The director fled on the eve of sentencing in California because of fear that the presiding intended to renege what his defense lawyers said was a deal to avoid a prison sentence. Ms. Widmer-Schlumpf said the American authorities had rejected a request by her ministry for records of a hearing by the prosecutor in the case, Roger Gunson, in January 2010, which should have established whether the judge who tried the case in 1977 had assured Mr. Polanski that time he spent in a psychiatric unit would constitute the whole of the period of imprisonment he would serve. “If this were the case, Roman Polanski would actually have already served his sentence and therefore both the proceedings on which the U.S. extradition request is founded and the request itself would have no foundation,” the Swiss Justice Ministry said in a statement. Swiss authorities jailed Mr. Polanski, the Polish-born filmmaker, in Zurich in September 2009 in response to the American warrant but in December allowed him to move to his chalet in the ski resort of Gstaad under house arrest on bail of $4.5 million pending a decision on his extradition. Mr. Polanski’s French lawyer, Georges Kiejman, hailed the Swiss government’s decision for concluding Mr. Polanski’s “long ordeal,” and said he would be able return to his home and family in France. “I pay tribute to Swiss justice, its judicial analysis is very correct,” Mr. Kiejman told Agence France-Presse.

It is my personal belief that the Swiss court never really intended to hand over Polanski to the US and did a pretty good job of delaying the matter long enough so that they could make this ruling, brace for little impact and let the whole matter go. The case seemed so cut and dry to me … Roman Polanski was convicted of a crime and then he fled the country before he could be punished. I realize that there are all these explanations as to why he fled and how innocent he is but don’t all convicted felons bound for jail say the same thing? If he truly were innocent then he should’ve submitted to the laws and practices of the country he committed his crimes in. But, it turns out he had an even better idea … he fled the country he committed his crimes in and then lived a life of wealth and luxury abroad. The scariest thing to me is the fact that this ruling by the Swiss court makes the statement that if you are convicted of a crime and you are wealthy enough, you can avoid punishment and enjoy a life of leisure and FREEDOM in Switzerland. Blah. I find this whole matter upsetting and very troubling. I’m also not very surprised at today’s ruling … are you?
