Birthday Lurve
Lindsay Lohan SCRAMs, Gets Punched For Her Birthday

Birthday lurve goes out to Lindsay Lohan who is celebrating her 24th birthday today (Whew! she made it thru another year) … but it turns out that L. Lo‘s bday celebration didn’t get started quite as happily as she prolly would’ve liked. Lindsay and friends made their way to Voyeur nightclub in West Hollywood, CA last night to celebrate her birthday and she posted a tweet on her official Twitter account that she got punched by a waitress while she celebrated last night:

A waitress just hit me – punched me for no reason

HMMM … that’s no way to celebrate one’s birthday. Despite the alleged assault, Lindsay remained at the club undaunted and celebrated her birthday well past midnight and rolled out with her crew at 2AM. TMZ is reporting that Lindsay is not really happy this birthday because not only is she broke and can’t afford a major fete but she is also really tired of wearing her court-ordered SCRAM alcohol-monitoring bracelet. If she remains a good girl and the judge overseeing her case is in a good mood, she may get the SCRAM removed very soon … but, sadly, not in time for her to have a truly Happy Birthday. Ah well … I think we can still send L. Lo our Birthday Lurve … after all, she made it to another year alive! That’s reason enough to celebrate!

Reboot
Andrew Garfield Has Been Cast As The New Spider-Man

Back in January we learned that plans for Spider-Man IV had been canned because the studio decided that it would be too expensive to pay all the inflated salaries of the franchise’s principal actors — Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst — and original director Sam Raimi. The studio soon thereafter decided to reboot the entire franchise and make a new set of films with an entirely different, younger and cheaper cast and director. In April it was announced that director Marc Webb had been hired to direct the new Spider-Man films and just yesterday it was announced that British actor Andrew Garfield has been cast to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man:

Sony Pictures has found its new Peter Parker: British heartthrob Andrew Garfield. The studio announced Thursday afternoon that it had cast the 26-year-old star of the upcoming “Never Let Me Go” and “The Social Network” in one of the most closely scrutinized casting decisions in recent Hollywood history. Garfield also starred in “Lions for Lambs,” “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” and the acclaimed British miniseries “Red Riding.” The fourth film in the series is planned to be a “Spider-Man” origin story that Sony earlier in the year said would focus on “a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.” Sony, worried that a fourth film with original director Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire would be too costly, decided to scale back and reboot the series. The studio hired Marc Webb, the director of “(500) Days of Summer,” to helm the project. It is due in theaters July 12, 2012. “From the first time we saw him in the upcoming film ‘The Social Network,’ to his glorious screen test, which floored all of us, we knew that we had found our new Peter Parker,” Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures, said in a statement. Among those said to be considered for the part were Josh Hutcherson (“The Kids are All Right”), Aaron Johnson (“Kick-Ass”), Anton Yelchin (“Star Trek”) and Jamie Bell (“Billy Elliot”).

I have never seen Garfield in any of his films/TV shows but I do hear he was fantastic in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and I am very interested in seeing his performance in The Social Network (which just yesterday became a must-see film for me). While I think he will make a great Spider-Man, I really think it is FAR too soon for Sony Pictures to be making a new set of Spider-Man films. It’s possible these new films will be as successful as the first films but does the world really need an entirely new Spider-Man franchise already? I wish Andrew Garfield all the luck in the world … I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens. I know I’m not all the excited for new Spider-Man films, are you?

"I was planning on taking some time off ..."
Trent Reznor Reveals That He Is Scoring ‘The Social Network’ Film

As you may recall a couple of weeks ago we got to see the first teaser poster for the new David Fincher film, The Social Network, which will tell the dark tale of the creation of Facebook and then a week later we got to see the first teaser trailer. Today we learn, from Trent Reznor himself, that TR has been working on the score to the film, which will be released this Fall ahead of the movie. In a post published to NIN.com yesterday, TR announced that despite his plans to “take some time off” after the end of Nine Inch Nails, he was approached by Fincher to score the film … and he said yes. Here is the full text of TR‘s amazing announcement:

I was planning on taking some time off after the continual waves of touring that ended last fall and spend this year experimenting around with what would become How To Destroy Angels and some new NIN. Well, that plan didn’t work out so well. David Fincher started inquiring about my interest in scoring his upcoming film, The Social Network. Yeah, the movie about the founding of Facebook. I’ve always loved David’s work but quite honestly I wondered what would draw him to tell that story. When I actually read the script and realized what he was up to, I said goodbye to that free time I had planned. Atticus Ross and I have been on a creative roll so I asked him if he wanted to work on this with me and we signed on. Months later, I’m happy to tell you we’re nearing the completion of this and I couldn’t be happier with how it’s turned out. The level of excellence that David operates on is inspiring and the entire process has been challenging and truly enjoyable. As Atticus and I near the end of the scoring process, we’re looking forward to the next phase – distilling the large amount of music we’ve written for this down to a satisfying record (or two). The film opens Oct 1 in the US with the record likely available a couple of weeks ahead of that. Speaking of the film… it’s really fucking good. And dark!

NIN fans may recall that Reznor and Fincher previously worked together on the soundtrack for the 1995 movie Se7en (staring Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman and Gwyneth Paltrow) and Reznor has previously scored the films Natural Born Killers (1994, directed by Oliver Stone) and Lost Highway (1997, directed by David Lynch) … so we know A.) TR knows how to score films and B.) he only works with the best directors around. This is really fantastic news. First we get a small batch of music from TR‘s new band How to Destroy Angels and now we get to look forward to a new album of new solo material. AND don’t forget, TR also promised that “NIN isn’t dead” and that he is working on “material that will be quite different from previous NIN … this suggests another Nine Inch Nails album. But … the focus of this post is on the upcoming score for The Social Network. After the jump, check out the teaser trailer again and pay attention to the background music, in hindsight I suppose we should’ve recognized how Trent Reznor it sounds …
