Remember last September when we got to see a fun painting, created by artist Dan Lacey, that featured President Barack Obama nude astride a unicorn? Well, it turns out that Lacey has turned his artful eye on another pop culture giant … the late King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson:

While the Obama piece was odd yet fun, these MJ paintings strike me as more odd and controversial. It appears that the image above features MJ in a Christlike pose but instead of wearing a crown of thorns, he is wearing a crown of pills. There are other paintings created by Lacey that feature MJ in other … odd (possibly NSFW) poses. Check ‘em out after the jump …

Mike The Situation Sorrentino, one of the stars of MTV‘s reality TV series Jersey Shore, made an in-person appearance at a GNC Store in NYC, NY today to launch a pre-work-out supplement called NoX Edge. Here are some photos from today’s event:

Jersey Shore star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino has got an edge! The reality TV sensation, famous for his rock-hard abs, will endorse NoX Edge, the world’s first pre-workout chewable tablet, and take part in the product’s launch with an autograph signing and meet and greet at the 57th Street NYC location of GNC on July 1. Prior to its national release, 300 units of NoX Edge will be available only at the GNC store located at 28 West 57th Street (between 5th and 6th Avenue) for this special preview event. HMMM … I mean … yeah. I guess it makes sense for “The Sitch” to cash in as much as possible on his new found fame. It has already been reported that he will be releasing his own fragrance as well as his own clothing line so why not his own work-out supplement. I suppose the implication is that if you pop these pills you can get sick abs like The Situation. Does this sound like an appealing prospect to you?

Smashing Pumpkins, who have broken up and reformed more times than I can remember, are hittin’ the road for a new concert tour this Summer (in support of their ridiculously titled new album Teargarden By Kaleidyscope 1: Songs for a Sailor) and got the party started last night at The Viper Room on the Sunset Strip here in LA last night for a pre-tour warm-up concert. According to Spinner.com, this new incarnation of SP is the “best since the original version in the ’90s” … unfortunately, the LA crowd didn’t seem too impressed. It turns out that the audience ended up heckling Billy and the new Pumpkins off stage. Here are some photos from last night’s show and the review from Spinner:

The latest incarnation of the Smashing Pumpkins, which now features Billy Corgan joined by returning guitarist Jeff Schroeder and new bassist Nicole Fiorentino and 20-year-old drummer Mike Byrne, are hitting the road next week, starting in Cleveland. But the group got a little warm-up show in at Hollywood’s very intimate, very packed and very sweaty Viper Room on Wednesday night. Opening with the new ‘Astral Planes,’ the Pumpkins’s new lineup showed it may be the best since the original version in the ’90s made the band icons of the alternative scene. The musical interaction between the four was excellent, breathing new energy into songs like ‘Ava Adore,’ ‘Bullet With Butterfly Wings’ and a ferocious ‘United States,’ as well as a crunching ‘Cherub Rock’ that had the Viper Room insane. But just as importantly, Corgan seemed to be having a great time with his new band, proving downright amiable at times. That adjective isn’t always associated with the Pumpkins frontman, but on this night, in front of 200 or so adoring fans, he was completely at ease, smiling often and thanking the crowd sporadically. Even when dealing with an L.A. crowd that wouldn’t shut up, he joked about it, describing a mid-set song as “one we played here at this venue for the first time. It’s about an L.A. crowd that won’t stop talking.” That talking brought the encore to an abrupt halt. Holding a ukulele, Corgan started playing ‘Love Is the Sweetest Thing,’ only to have it cut short by hecklers yelling “‘Tiptoe Through the Tulips’” and a war of words between fans telling the loudmouthed patrons to shut up’ After waiting a moment for it to die down, Corgan finally gave up, declaring, “I love you all, but I’m too old for this shit.” Even then though, he maintained his smile and seemed genuinely unfazed by the unfortunate ending. And that comfort is for good reason — he’s clearly enjoying his killer new band, which is good news for Pumpkins fans everywhere.

In all honesty, I’m not a Smashing Pumpkins fan at all … I may like the odd single here and there but generally, I’m not into them at all. I was curious, tho, to hear what others thought of the new band’s live performance … and I guess I got my answer. LA crowds are tough but fair. If SP had rocked the house last night, the show would’ve been hailed as a smash return to form. The fact that SP practically got booed off the stage is pretty telling. Maybe Billy is “too old for this shit” and should take the hint that the world really is a vampire. That being said, I’m sure this new incarnation of Smashing Pumpkins will get some love elsewhere on the road. Let’s just hope that this new version of SP doesn’t turn out like his BFF Courtney Love‘s new version of Hole.

Earlier this week we saw photos of Lindsay Lohan out on the town (well, actually it was a Rite Aid Pharmacy) with her new friend Jenni Dawn Muro and today we get to see photos of Lindsay with said new friend making her way home from the movies last night. Lindsay and her crew made their way to the ArcLight Theater in Hollywood, CA to see The Twilight Saga: Eclipse … and naturally she wore her court-ordered SCRAM alcohol-monitoring bracelet like a good little bad girl:

Now, I cannot be sure what Lindsay‘s thoughts on Eclipse are but her new BFF Jenni had this to tweet about it:

My guess is that Lindsay, at the very least, had a fun night out with her friends. I suspect that we may be seeing a lot more of Jenni Dawn now that she’s as tight with Lindsay as that SCRAM bracelet she’s being forced to wear. I wonder where they’ll pop up next!

Janet Jackson, who has been rocking a pretty hot short hair’do lately, is featured on the cover of the new issue of Essence magazine with a full head of beautiful hair. It’s not clear if this is a photo that was snapped before Janet lopped off all of her hair or if she’s wearing a fabulous wig but she looks amazing on the cover:

And so … the day that so many have hoped and prayed for finally arrives … The Twilight Saga: Eclipse opened in theaters yesterday and I decided to make the trek out, brave the screaming crowds and see the film for myself. I managed to cajole my good friend Josh Z. to come along with me. As a straight dude who hadn’t read any of the books or seen any of the movies, I thought he would be the PERFECT person to go with me. Well, okay, actually he was the only person who agreed to accompany me (which, I suspect, was due in large part to the fact that he had never read/seen anything Twilight-related before). So off we went to see The Twilight Saga: Eclipse:

In all honesty, the movie wasn’t all that great … but I place most of the blame on the source material. I’ve said it many times before, the Twilight books written by Stephenie Meyer are pretty bad … but the movies are a bit better. I honestly felt that Eclipse was the best movie they’ve made thus far, primarily because of the inclusion of the werewolves. The story isn’t that inventive but seeing the werewolves in action was the best part for me. And, of course, the best werewolf of the bunch is Jacob Black … who spends 80% of his scenes in the film half-nekkid. While Eclipse didn’t blow me away as a cinematic masterpiece, the sight of Taylor Lautner‘s chiseled body makes the film absolutely worth seeing. If you let yourself go, Eclipse can be a lot of fun … but I still can’t get over the ridiculous melodrama. If they toned that part down A LOT, I think people could take the movies more seriously. But, the screaming fans really love the melodrama so … in it stays. Having read all of the Twilight books, I really wish the story had ended with Eclipse. Breaking Dawn has to be one of the worst books I’ve ever read in my life … I am so scared of how the 2-part movie will turn out. But, that is a worry for another day … Eclipse is ok, I’m glad I saw it. I don’t think I need to see it again … tho, another round of Lautner‘s abs does sound appealing ;)

This afternoon, David and I are going to see the musical In the Heights at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood. We missed seeing it on Broadway so we’re excited to see it here. Hope YOU have a great Thursday, y’all!

Back in January we got to see photos of popstar Christina Aguilera filming scenes for her debut movie titled Burlesque here in SoCal and then in April we got to see some behind the scenes video from the set of the film. Today we get to see the first promo pics released from the film which is due to hit theaters this Winter:

Christina Aguilera has built up a name for herself as one of the sexiest singers around during her time in the music industry. With singles including Dirrty and Not Myself Tonight under her belt, the 29-year-old star is no stranger to causing controversy with her risque dance routines and raunchy lyrics. But now Christina has taken a chance with her career, and made the move into film – starring alongside Cher in the upcoming Burlesque. And, as the first pictures from the film show, she has no intention of toning down her naughty side. In one shot, Christina is seen wearing a low-cut gold dress and heels as dancers perform some impressive moves behind her. In another, she is seen reclining on a chaise longue in a corset and frilly knickers as she performs a sexy routine. Speaking about the film, Christina told USA Today: ‘It’s sexy, it’s sensual. The whole idea of burlesque has always intrigued me. ‘The art of the tease, the dance, beautiful women – need I say more? I think people will definitely feel energised and excited.’ Christina plays Ali Rose in the movie which tells the story of a young girl to travels to Los Angeles to live her dream, only to find herself making money in a burlseque club. She said: ‘It wasn’t just about a girl who comes to LA and makes it big. It was a girl who had suffered and felt pain, been in seven foster homes. She doesn’t let her past make her a victim. And that to me was so appealing.’ Burlesque also marks a return to acting for Oscar-winning star Cher, who plays former dancer Tess – the owner of The Burlesque Lounge. Speaking about how Cher, 64, helped mentor her during her film debut, Christina said: ‘I love no-bullshit women, and she’s the best of the best. An original trendsetter in her time and a legend in mine. I found her kind and warm. She had helpful advice and stories for days.’ And now she has had a taste of life in front of the lens, Christina has no intention of giving up her film dreams. When asked recently what kind of films she saw herself starring in, Christina replied: ‘Something edgy would be good. I like the kind of roles Angelina Jolie usually plays, like in Girl, Interrupted. Something with substance.’ She added: ‘But I also have some ideas of my own, so maybe I’ll get with a screenwriter to put them to paper.’ Burlesque, which also stars Stanley Tucci, Cam Gigandet and Alan Cumming, is due for release in December.

HMMMM. The photos strike me as a bit Showgirls-y, to be honest. Plus, I’m not very intrigued by the description of the film. I’m not sure what Burlesque will offer that will entice folks to shell out their money to see it. I mean, I get that we are still many months away from the film’s release but this first look does not impress me at all. When last we saw our dear Britney Spears out and about she was lookin’ all lovey dovey with her beau Jason Trawick as the couple pumped gas together on their way out of town. Today we learn that Britney is back in LA and spent some bonding time with her father Jamie Spears is Calabasas, CA yesterday afternoon … here are a few photos:

I believe Papa Spears was in attendance at Sean Preston‘s pre-school graduation last week but this is the first time we’ve seen father and daughter enjoying some alonetime in quite some time. I’m sure naysayers will say that Papa Spears was merely keeping tabs on his daughter because he still controls her business and person by legal conservatorship but I’m of the mind that father and daughter were just enjoying some quality time together. I absolutely believe that this man saved Britney Spears‘s life … and for that, I will be forever grateful. I love that they even wore matching yellow shirts for their little outing ;) They look great, no?

Last week we got to see Lauren LC Conrad rockin’ the milk’stache for her latest Got Milk? ad campaign and today we get to see Taylor Swift in her second Got Milk? promo ad. As you may recall, Taylor first donned the iconic milk’stache back in October of 2008 so this is her second ad in just under 2 years … I guess homegirl really loves wearing milk:

Swift Pick. On the road you need energy. That’s why I drink milk. It has B vitamins and protein I need to help get me going. So I’m always ready for the next city, the next crowd, the next encore. got milk?

I suppose you can’t get more wholesome than Taylor Swift promoting milk drinking … I mean, she has to be their perfect Got Milk? candidate. But, as I mentioned when I talked about LC‘s photo, the image of fake milk smeared on someone’s upper lip does not make me want to drink the stuff. If they really want to entice me to dive into a glass of milk, they need to show me plates of cookies and/or pie. But, I guess Taylor Swift has enough fans that here mere presence in the campaign (for the second time, no less) will inspire some young’ns to drink milk. In that regard, I guess it’s mission: accomplished. What do y’all think of this latest Got Milk? promo?
