Katherine Jackson, who is releasing a photobook of personal photos of her late son Michael Jackson titled Never Can Say Goodbye, has recorded and released a video message to fans thanking them for their attendance at a memorial service thrown in MJ‘s honor this coming Saturday night. It appears the video has been recorded to drum up interest in selling tickets for this upcoming event on the anniversary of MJ‘s death as well as to promote the release of her new book:

Michael Jackson’s mother has posted a video on YouTube welcoming the King of Pop’s fans to an upcoming celebration of the star’s life in Beverly Hills. Katherine Jackson briefly thanks the singer’s loyal followers for their support and insists her late son would be “very honored and pleased” his devotees are coming together to commemorate the first anniversary of his death. She says, “We all love you.” The tribute to the King of Pop will take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday, June 26.

To be honest, something about this video just doesn’t jibe with me. It’s clear that Katherine has been put up to make this video to promote this upcoming memorial event and the release of the book and, I gotta say, it doesn’t feel genuine in its sincerity. It has been suggested that Katherine is being used by her business partner Howard Mann and IMHO this video seems to be proof that this man has a lot of influence over her. I dunno … the video just seems … wrong. What do y’all think?

First in early 2009 we learned that plans were in the works to produce a remake of the famed 80′s film Footloose (which starred Kevin Bacon) but that Zac Efron would NOT be appearing in the lead role, then we learned that Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford had signed on to appear in the film. Then earlier this year we learned that Chace, too, decided to pull out and NOT appear in the Footloose remake. But today, in the latest chapter of the Footloose casting saga, we learn that newcomer and MTV‘s Dancelife star Kenny Wormald has officially signed on to star in the new version of Footloose:

A new face in Hollywood is stepping into Kevin Bacon’s shoes for a remake of “Footloose.” Paramount Pictures announced Tuesday that Kenny Wormald will take on the role Bacon originated in the 1984 original about a rebellious city youth who busts some moves in his new town, where dancing has been banned. “High School Musical” heartthrob Zac Efron had planned to star but dropped out of the “Footloose” remake last year. Wormald’s previous credits include the MTV series “Dancelife.” He will co-star alongside two-time “Dancing With the Stars” champion and country music singer Julianne Hough. The cast also includes Dennis Quaid. Due in theaters April 1, 2011, “Footloose” will be directed by Craig Brewer (“Hustle & Flow”).

I have to say, I have serious reservations about this planned Footloose remake … the fact that so many folks do NOT want to be in it is troubling. But I will say that I like the idea of a relative unknown taking the lead … and the fact that he is a dancer is very encouraging. I love the original film far too much to get too excited about this remake (becuase I know for a fact that the new version will not feature as much bare butt nudity as the original, damnit) but it sounds like the film is finally on track. Who knows, it may strike a cord and be a big hit. I don’t get impressed by very many remakes so … I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

After severely injuring his Achilles tendon in game play back in March, it was assumed that David Beckham would NOT be able to return to the soccer field for a very long time. His injury was so sever that he is unable to participate in the 2010 World Cup soccer tournament currently underway in South Africa … but that doesn’t mean he can’t get dressed up in the Team England soccer uniform and kick around the ol’ ball on his off time. In these photos, Becks appears to be almost back to normal … even if he still cannot play in the tourney:

While I’m certain Becks isn’t back to 100% shape, it’s heartening to see him back in uniform, back on the soccer field. This bodes very well for his return to play for his soccer team the LA Galaxy later on this year. Becks may be missing out on World Cup glory right now but he still has a chance to get back in action and wow the crowds here in the US when he gets back to play with the Galaxy. Lookin’ good, Becks!

Yesterday was a pretty quiet day around these here parts … the highlight of the afternoon revolved around a bit of cleaning and decorating … cuz, you see, I happened to come upon this awesome vinyl promo of Tori Amos‘s first album Y Kant Tori Read from her days BEFORE she was a solo piano goddess:

Back in the late 80′s, Tori got talked into doing a rock band sort of thing to cash in on the 80′s hair metal band thing and the result was her debut self-titled album Y Kant Tori Read. It went on to huge commercial failure and is the reason she left the country to write her stunning next album Little Earthquakes. From there the rest his history but, ah, I still have much love for Y Kant Tori Read. The songs are so deliciously cheesy … and the music video for the band’s first single The Big Picture is just … priceless:

Last night on the Bravo TV show Watch What Happens Live, The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Danielle Staub performed LIVE a new single titled Real Close and managed to actually impress the hell out of me. Now, it wasn’t the best live performance I’ve never heard but the fact that Danielle not only sang live (a feat not accomplished by any of the other Housewives stars who are peddling their own songs) but sang fairly well. Danielle dueted with “lesbian superstar” singer Lori Michaels and, well, you’ll just have to hear it to believe it:

First came “Tardy for the Party.” Then came “Money Can’t Buy You Class.” And now there’s “Real Close,” the first song from Danielle Staub — and the third single originating from a Real Housewives star. Unlike Atlanta‘s Kim Zolciak and New York City‘s Countess LuAnn de Lesseps, the New Jersey star skipped the kicky dance track in favor of a more melodic tune. Calling the love song a “tortured lullaby” before debuting it on Watch What Happens Live Monday night, the reality star sat down at an electric piano next to songwriter Lori Michaels, who composed the ballad, played the piano and even shared vocals with Staub. As the song ended, Staub leaned in for what looked like was going to be a kiss. How did the performers fare? After the final notes faded away, host Andy Cohen described the performance as “really big,” then invited the ladies to join him for a (very) brief chat. Noting their apparent musical chemistry, he asked if the women were more than just duet partners. But Staub wouldn’t say. Instead, she said they got close writing and performing the song. Added Staub: “Were you tortured?”

OK, putting aside the obviously fake lesbian romantic tension Danielle and Lori tried to pull on camera, I think Danielle did a great job with this performance. Considering how low the bar has been set by the other singing Housewives, I wasn’t expecting much from Danielle‘s performance last night but … she did impress me. No, it’s not like I’ll run out and buy any of her music but she deffo has won my respect as the best singer of the Housewives ilk … now that is quite an accomplishment.

On Saturday we got to see photos of Superman Returns star Brandon Routh and his Dexter actress wife Courtney Ford chillin’ with the cast of the new Cirque du Soleil show Viva Elvis at the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, NV and I’m guessing Snoop Dogg heard about what a great time they had at the show and decided to take his family to see it as well. Snoop and his family celebrated his daughter’s 11th birthday at last night’s performance of Viva Elvis in LV:

As you can see, the entire cast of Viva Elvis wanted to pose for a photo with the Snoop D-O double G and, I understand, were more than happy to sing Happy Birthday to his daughter last night. Snoop declared that the performance of Jailhouse Rock was his fave and was quoted as saying as he left last night’s Viva Elvis show — “Man, this was a defining moment in Snoop history!” I cannot WAIT to see this show myself … this added endorsement by Snoop Dogg is just the icing on the cake for me. I will see this show sometime soon … I cannot wait.

Another day, another batch of Lindsay Lohan news that is sure to tickle your collective fancy … or, mebbe not. A new report out today claims that Lindsay is planning to pose nude except for her court-ordered alcohol-monitoring SCRAM bracelet for an upcoming new ad campaign for her line of 6126 “designer” handbags. I mean … why not? L. Lo stepped out on the town last night wearing all of her clothing yet trying to hide her SCRAM … cuz that makes sense, right?

Lindsay Lohan is ready to take it all off again for the cameras — with or without her booze bracelet. The 23-year-old star will pose nude in print ads for her 6126 line of handbags, LAmag.com reported Monday. Richard Luna of The California Bag (which licenses the 6126 totes) told the magazine that Lohan will doff her clothes and roll around in a bed for a photo shoot in L.A. next month. Luna wasn’t sure whether Lohan’s court-mandated SCRAM bracelet would be part of the racy pictorial. “We’re thinking of having police on hand so we can remove the ankle bracelet for the pictures.” He then noted that the actress might be photographed both with and without the alcohol-monitoring device — or the accessory might be airbrushed later on. Hitting pricey department stores this fall, the 6126 (named after Marilyn Monroe’s birthdate) handbags will retail for $200 to $600; a cheaper line, 7286 (Lohan’s birth date), will sell for under $200 at lower-end stores such as Macy’s.

Well, when life hands you lemons you … well, pose naked on a bed of handbags with your court-ordered alcohol-monitoring SCRAM bracelet. At least she’s working, that’s the positive part of this story. OH and Bravo TV fans, take note … L. Lo will be appearing in the next episode of the new series Double Exposure … so set those DVRs:
