'Twilight's new vampire models a few suits
Xavier Samuel Does ‘GQ’ Magazine

There’s a new vampire on the Twilight block and his name is Riley … in the upcoming sequel film The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Riley is played by newcomer Xavier Samuel (who also has a new movie titled Anonymous which is about to be released in theaters). You may recall that we’ve previously seen photos of Xavier filming scenes for Eclipse in Vancouver, British Columbia with co-star Bryce Dallas Howard (who has been cast to play vampire Victoria in the film) as well as photos of Xavier just hangin’ out in Vancouver in between filming days. Today we get to see a few photos of Xavier Samuel in the pages of the new issue of GQ magazine modeling a few affordable suits as well as some excerpts from his short interview with the mag:

You’re on the poster for the new Twilight film, Eclipse. How did this happen?
I did the audition from Sydney. I put the audition down on tape and sent it over.

Actors are always putting themselves on tape. But they never actually get the role that way!
I’ve been doing that for quite a while—doing these auditions from Australia and sending them out. I don’t know whose desk they land on, or if anyone even watches them. To hear back was a surprise. I flew to Vancouver on a maybe. It was me and four other guys. And I was shooting before I knew it.

Were you a fan of the Twilight series? Tell the truth.
I watched the first film on the plane, on the way over to Vancouver. Then I went straight to the bookstore.

Funny. You play Riley, a hungry newborn vampire out on a rampage. Full disclosure: I read the book, and Riley’s only on one page.
Yes, I was flipping through the book, thinking: Where’s Riley? He’s whittled down to one line. But in the film, we venture into the world of Riley and watch him assembling this newborn army. It’s more action-packed. And it gives me something more to do, thankfully.

Do you get to inflict much damage on the world?
There was no neck biting. I threw a vampire off of a burning car. I also threw a massive log with one hand. The log was attached to a hydraulic system. It made me look really strong.

Is it hard to be the new kid in a franchise like this?
It is a bit like the first day of school. But I felt like part of the family.

Most of your scenes are with Bryce Dallas Howard—who plays the villain, Victoria. She was also new to the Twilight family. Did that help?
We bonded quite early. We just kind of hit it off from the very beginning, rehearsed a lot of stuff, and talked about this almost Lady Macbeth kind of relationship.

You’re intellectualizing Twilight.
You see that Shakespeare reference I just made? [laughs] But she manipulates him in that way.

I’m impressed. How was the green-screen work? Obviously you’re not fighting wolves.
The director would yell Action! and this guy puts a stick in your face. That stick is the wolf. They didn’t teach that at drama school. I must have been sick that day.

Considering the way rabid Twilight fans like to “eat up” new manflesh in these Twilight films, I’m thinking Xavier is about to win himself a whole slew of new fans. I hope the poor lad is ready for all of that love. At least we know the boy can dress … he looks pretty good in this suit. After the jump, check out a couple more photos from Xavier‘s GQ photospread …

Heidi Klum Celebrates Her 37th Birthday At Disneyland

Birthday Lurve goes out to Heidi Klum today as she celebrates her 37th birthday … but it appears that she got the party started a bit early with her visit to Disneyland in Anaheim, CA yesterday afternoon. Heidi and her entire family were spotted enjoying the day at the Magic Kingdom … here is a cute pic of Heidi rockin’ some serious face paint as she rode the carousel yesterday afternoon:

I understand that Heidi and her kids got matching tiger face paint masks. I also understand that the family got stuck on the Matterhorn ride due to a technical difficulty. Nonetheless, I bet the family had a great day and Heidi had a great early-birthday celebration. See, you’re never too old to celebrate your birthday at Disneyland! Happy Birthday, Heidi!!

La Toya Jackson Rides Around SoCal In Style

Yesterday we saw a few photos of Mariah Carey and hubby Nick Cannon tooling around Malibu, CA in an insanely luxurious Rolls Royce Phantom convertible but today we learn that they weren’t the only celebs riding around in style this weekend here in SoCal. La Toya Jackson, who just celebrated her 54th birthday last Saturday, was spotted riding shotgun in a sweet, fire red Ferrari convertible yesterday afternoon:

It’s unclear who was behind the wheel but I would bet very good money that this sweet ride does NOT belong to Ms. La Toya Jackson. Even still, you gotta admit that she does look pretty good in this car. You do the damn thing, Toy … let that dude drive you around as much as you like. The car really suits her, don’t you think?

"I had, like, the perfect upbringing."
Kristen Stewart Does British ‘Elle’ Magazine

Kristen Stewart, who stars in the upcoming sequel film The Twilight Saga: Eclipse opening in theaters on June 30, is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of British Elle magazine. In her coverstory interview, K. Stew explains how thankful she is for the “perfect upbringing” she got from her family (and alludes to how thankful she is NOT have turned out like Lindsay Lohan). Kristen also reveals why she tends to look so miserable in most of her photos. Here is our first look at Kristen Stewart‘s British Elle magazine cover and some snippets from her accompanying coverstory interview:

“My family are amazing. I had, like, the perfect upbringing. It sucks for people like Lindsay [Lohan], but it’s not her fault that she’s so off the rails – and she’s smart, very smart.” Twilight saga star Kristen Stewart tells UK ELLE Magazine’s July issue why she’s thankful for her solid family life.

Our hearts bleed for the gorgeous, rich and celebrity-dating film stars sometimes. Like poor Kristen Stewart, who’s revealed she’s miserable because of the bad vibes, man. Speaking in the new issue of Elle Magazine, the Twilight teen said: “People say that I’m miserable all the time. It’s not that I’m miserable, it’s just that somebody’s yelling at me. I literally, sometimes, have to keep myself from crying…It’s a physical reaction to the energy that’s thrown at you.”

You can always count on Kristen Stewart to provide entertaining sound bytes in most of her interviews. I can’t say I blame her for being thankful that she didn’t turn out like Lindsay Lohan. K. Stew is pretty much on top of the world, L. Lo is trying to find interesting ways to show off her court-ordered SCRAM alcohol-monitoring bracelet … If I were Kristen, I’d be thankful, too. After the jump, check out a behind the scenes video shot by Elle on the Beverly Hills, CA set of Kristen‘s photoshoot — Kristen talks a bit about her “sense of style” in her own, awkward way …

‘Sex And The City 2’ Premieres In Tokyo, Japan

Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall were all on hand over the weekend to appear at the Tokyo, Japan premiere of their new film Sex and the City 2 (which beat Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time at the box office here in the US) … and the ladies were lookin’ completely fabulous at the event. Here are a few photos from this weekends SaTC soiree in Japan:

Despite a few negative reviews of the film, I think fans of the series (and, more importantly, of the characters) have been loving the film … and now it’s the Japanese fans’ turn to enjoy Sex and the City 2. I’m not entirely certain but I think this may be one of the last stops on the SaTC ladies’ world tour to promote the film. Last January there was a report going around that plans to film a third SaTC movie might go into production very soon after the release of SaTC 2. Because the lovely ladies aren’t getting any younger, it makes sense that they would want to get to work on a third (and final?) film. But, considering how rough the reviews have been, I understand they might put the kibosh on plans for a third movie altogether. I, personally, would LOVE to see another movie … so long as they work a bit on the story. Let the ladies stay in NYC and do what they do best … that’s what needs to happen if another movie is made. What do y’all think … should the powers that be move forward with another Sex and the City movie or should they put the entire franchise to bed and end it right now?

The TV Guide
‘Four’ Play

I don’t know about you but I enjoyed myself a fantastic Memorial Day yesterday here in SoCal. Despite the fact that I was missing David (who spent the weekend in San Francisco, CA with his brother Aram), I managed to enjoy a great day nonetheless. My friends Emma and Josh invited me to chill with them in Manhattan Beach and we enjoyed a great day together:

As you can see, part of our fun included a few rousing games of Connect Four. Unfortch, Connect Four really isn’t my forte … I ended up having to clean house in Uno. There were a few brown piña coladas (don’t ask) and a trip to Poncho’s for a delish Mexican meal so all in all, it was a superfun day.

David comes home from SF tonight and I’m really looking forward to having him home. Hope your short week ahead is a great one!

Cops a plea deal, may only serve 15 days in jail
Charlie Sheen Has Been Sentenced To Jail

As you may recall, Two and a Half Men actor Charlie Sheen was arrested in Aspen, CO on Xmas day last December on charges that he assaulted his wife Brooke Mueller. Today we learn that Sheen has agreed to a plea bargain where he will plead guilty to a misdemeanor offense on June 7 and will immediately begin serving a 30 day jail sentence … which will, very likely, be a much shorter sentence for “good behavior” while incarcerated. No matter how long Sheen actually serves behind bars, he will be out in plenty of time to start production on the next season of his hit CBS TV show. Like it or not, Charlie is going to jail, y’all:

“Charlie intends to go to court on June 7 [to] plead to a misdemeanor and immediately begin serving his 30 days in jail,” says the source. “With good behavior, he could end up doing 15 or so days.” While Sheen, 44, had been charged with felony menacing, misdemeanor third-degree assault and misdemeanor criminal mischief following a Christmas Day fight with his wife, Brooke Mueller, 32, in Aspen, Colo., the source adds that Sheen would not be placed on probation once he completes his jail sentence … Earlier this month, Sheen agreed to return to his CBS hit Two and a Half Men for two more years. The plea deal would allow Sheen to serve out his jail sentence with time to spare before the new season starts shooting at the beginning of August.

Um … well, I’m shocked! I honestly never thought that Sheen‘s arrest for assault would result in actual jailtime. I mean, it’s very rare that celebs get locked up at all … to be honest, I thought this messy and embarrassing Xmas day arrest would just get swept under the rug. If Sheen is willing to go to jail, it sure sounds like he must be guilty of at least some of the assault allegations against him. There is NO way homeboy will do a full 30 days in jail … to be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if he got sprung in under a week. Nonetheless, jail is jail … and whether it’s for a short stretch or an even shorter stretch, that’s where Charlie is going.

Reveals how the new Scissor Sisters album was saved
Jake Shears Does ‘Attitude’ Magazine

Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears, who bared his hawt bod on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Têtu magazine last month, is once again showin’ off his hawtness on the cover of the new issue of Attitude magazine this month. Unfortch, the Attitude website does not feature any photos from his photoshoot nor does it feature his coverstory interivew … thankfully, Spinner posted a new article that explains how Jake managed to save the new Scissor Sisters album from ruination … on the advice of Pet Shop Boys frontman Neil Tennant:

“We were excited about new directions and new things and we took the music to one of our friends that we have entrusted our music to in the past and it was sort of met with a resounding, ‘Weh, it’s all right,’” Sisters matriarch Ana Matronic tells Spinner. “When you get a tepid reaction like that, it definitely makes you examine what you’ve been doing and scratch your head a little bit.” Shears didn’t have a lot of time for scratching his head. He’d already been pulling double duty, working on the SS album and a musical version of Armistead Maupin’s ‘Tales of the City.’ The answer was to find himself, again, by getting out of town … While Shears was cutting loose in Germany, he found what he needed to reignite his creativity after a conversation with sometime Berlin resident Neil Tennant. The Pet Shop Boys singer suggested Shears call up the band’s old pal — and Madonna producer — Stuart Price. “Neil said, ‘Why don’t you just call Stuart and see what’s going on?’ At that point, I think Jake was just looking for a really good friend and a good sounding board to bounce off ideas,” Matronic says … “[Jake] was so excited and Stuart was so excited. Stuart said to Jake, ‘I would drop everything to make a record with you guys.’ So that next weekend, Stuart and Babydaddy were out in Berlin and then a week or two after that, I went to London to work in the studio with them,” she explains of the writing sessions that resulted in their real third album, ‘Night Works,’ which is due June 29. “It was all just this great creative explosion, all caused by Neil Tennant.” The new version of the album, a glittering, 80′s-influenced dance-floor pop explosion sat more than well with the friends they played the first version to. “People jumped up and down and clapped like little kids,” Matronic says, laughing. “[It] was really exciting.”

I’m of the mind that Stuart Price is a genius producer. He worked his magic for Madonna (Confessions on the Dancefloor is Maddy‘s best album of the past 10 years) and also worked his magic on Kylie Minogue‘s upcoming new album Aphrodite, due out in stores next month (incidentally, Kylie hooked up with Stuart on the advice of Jake Shears after they hooked up for the new Scissor Sisters album Night Work). I am a huge fan of Stuart‘s sound and I cannot wait to hear the new SS album as well as Kylie‘s album. I’m also looking forward to seeing the rest of the photos from Jake‘s Attitude magazine photospread … I can’t help but wonder if he wears these leather pants in all of the photos ;)

The couple announce their separation via email after 40 years of marriage
Al Gore & Tipper Gore Are Dunzo!

Former Vice President Al Gore and his wife of 40 years Tipper Gore have announced via email to friends that they have decided to end their marriage. The email made its way to the political blog Politico, which is how news of the split was made public. Sad but ture, Al and Tipper are dunzo, y’all!

Al and Tipper Gore, whose playful romance enlivened Washington and the campaign trail for a quarter century, have decided to separate after 40 years of marriage, the couple told friends Tuesday. In an “Email from Al and Tipper Gore,” the couple said:

“We are announcing today that after a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to separate. This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration. We ask for respect for our privacy and that of our family, and we do not intend to comment further.”

The e-mail was obtained by POLITICO and confirmed by Kalee Kreider of the office of Al and Tipper Gore. Kreider said there would be no further comment … The Gores, who have four children and live in Tennessee, marked their 40th wedding anniversary two weeks ago. The Gores both grew up in the Washington area. They met at a high-school graduation dance and were married at the National Cathedral on May 19, 1970, according to Tipper Gore’s White House biography.

Aww … this is really sad news, I think. 40 years of marriage is a pretty impressive accomplishment … that the couple would decide to separate so soon after their 40th anniversary is just … sad. We may never know the reason for the split (tho, if something of an infidelitous sort occurred we are likely to catch wind of it soon enough) but it’s just a damn shame that 40 years together had to end in an email announcement to friends.
